Thinking some more about Diane's daughter and this just kind of flowed out of me. Started here, but I put it on Facebook too.
I am thinking about the barrage of bad news, the glimmers of hope, the unexpected blessings, the stories of kindness... And I am thinking about the role of witness. I can't quite articulate where my brain is going, but I feel that to bear witness to another's suffering can be a sacred act. And for those if us not on the front lines, but here, bearing witness: once this is over, that sacred act must turn to sacred action. We cannot forget what is happening/has happened to our fellow human beings. We must work to heal as best we can, and prevent callous disregard from recreating such a tragedy. Some of us may have the luxury of homes, income, ...safety. We do not have the luxury of looking away. Bear witness. Don't forget. Speak. Act.
