Winter's Bone ... oh, yes. The author of the book (and screenplay) and his wife are friends. His wife and I are in a book club together. I could tell you some amazing stories about the author / that book / the meth culture. We should talk. Seriously.

P.S. MOVIE RECOMMENDATION: Last night I watched on Netflix "Mary Poppins Returns." It's a VERY timely and most enjoyable movie starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. FTR, I am really in a musicals mood at the moment. Gee, I wonder why? ;)

YES! In fact, that 12 minutes of glorious goofiness is what led me to watch "Mary Poppins Returns" last night. :)

Diane and Liz, your thoughts about your daughters made me tear up a little. I braided my daughter's hair last night before bed. I know the ache to have your child near, especially in times like these. I feel so blessed daughter is with us until she is cleared to work onsite. So probably at least until May. Son seems to be doing fine. Getting information from his is different than our daughter. I reassure myself I can drive to his apartment in 4.5 hours if needed.

My Mom is meeting with her doctors about her lung scan today.

My desk is facing a south window that looks over our small, but wooded backyard. I am really enjoying watching the wildlife. This morning I've seen an albino squirrel, robins, a blue Jay, a pair of mallard ducks (water nearby, but no pond or lake where they were strolling) and a cardinal.

Coffee break is over, back to work!

I see I haven't stopped in seriously since Wed, last- my response to all this has been to retreat, retrench, and sort of shut down. I cannot seem to be anything other than generally pissed off and aggrieved with news of this and that and, well, I seem to be very proficient in the art of isolation. Oh, my. It must seem as if I don't care...not so- just that being still is better than going semi ballistic.

After much finagling, DS#1 found his way home. Wedding cancelled (no brainer there). He is in a mandated home isolation for two weeks- poor critter- We are taking muffins and such over tomorrow, and will be visiting in the back yard-at a fair distance- Other than some yard work and messing around with a few art projects, - not much else cooking. Swann is my reason to get out and about with nature. Very soggy and wet, but absorbing a lot of vitamin D and fresh air. Very grateful for Swann and I'm sure he came to us in anticipation of just this season of life.

The Redbuds are blooming and Kurt brought in the first small picking of this year's asparagus (picked, prepared, roasted with olive oil and eaten all in a moment). Spring has arrived in Kansas.

The joys of the day abide, regardless.

Bonnie, I'm always so happy to hear from you!

Your redbuds are glorious. So are mine. I'll try to post mine here or "over there" or on my FB page soon. Redbuds mean spring is really here.

Hi,

It's going to be a tough day. Ella is going to leave today. It is time and it is the compassionate thing to do. The vet is coming here at 1 pm.

Weight went back up to 266 a few days ago and is holding steady there. I'm okay with that - especially since I have been doing a little more on the stress eating side the past two or three days.

We did our shopping for the week yesterday. I swear it took me almost as long to unpack and wipe down the groceries as it did to go shopping. I realized, several hours after getting home neither one of us remembered to ditch our shoes in the garage. Oh, well.... But the stores were very well stocked, except for paper products. But Trader Joe's actually had their store brand of Kleenex on the shelf and paper napkins. WOW! We got almost everything we needed from Trader Joe's. We did stop by Lucky to get the one or two things we couldn't get at Trader Joe's. Interestingly, Lucky was completely out of eggs, whereas Trader Joe's was fully stocked. The cashier at Trader Joe's said that they do run out of eggs daily around 7 or 8 pm, but they get deliveries every morning. So, we should be set for a full week. I even bought frozen veggies so we won't have a repeat of last week running out of veggies altogether.

I do not have children, so it is interesting to me to read how the parent mind interprets the COVID 19 pandemic. I completely understand, though some of what the moms here write has never occurred to me. I have never regretted not having children, and honestly, I'm okay with not having the extra burden some of you are carrying through this. Given how I can be with my dogs, and how devoted my parents were to us, I can imagine what I'd be feeling for my children right now, if I had any. My heart goes out to you.

Well, it is time for me to put on my game face and be strong until I don't have to be.

Love you all.

Devon, I am so sorry that Ella's time came so quickly. You are a wonderful dog parent to know when it is the right thing for her.
