Weight 126.2, WW Bluepoints 6. Lots of shrimp yesterday!

Everyone has gone crazy. I'm told that in Massachusetts there is no TP or other substitute paper products, food is running scarce and it takes up to an hour to check out in stores. So I went to the store here at 6:30 am. No TP, but I did get a little backup facial tissue. And food was plentiful other than soup. Is everyone going to hide away for months, drink soup and go to the bathroom a lot?

In the meantime we went out to lunch and to the beach with friends yesterday - it was a beautiful day as is the projection for all days this week. Today we are meeting friends from home for lunch in Bradenton (about an hour away).

DD is going to be working from home indefinitely beginning Monday. Right now she is scheduled to fly here on Thursday and go home Sunday. Her plan is to come as long as the plane is flying and push out her departure and just work from here.

Stay safe and fed!

Well now, there is one nice outcome to this current circus-0-craziness. How nice for DD to work in paradise- and for you to have her there. Enjoy each other!

For those who are in need of paper products, feel free to come out to my neck of the woods where the shelves are full. Maybe we're in denial- maybe just so rural and remote-who knows. It's a different life style. Those of us outside of towns tend to have root cellars full of garden potatoes, onions, etc- shelves full of home jarred produce- the same with chest freezers, the dry goods closet--blah blah

Rainy and cold today-unhappy and bored to distraction pup who has followed me around like a three year old with a book he wants me to read for the 54th time. In this case we're talking about a tug of war rope.

(Disregard the carrot bits and pup-fluff on the rug-Geeze!)

I hope your daughter reaches you uneventfully. Once she's there, staying put for awhile seems like a good idea.

We can't buy any sanitizing products here, in addition to toilet paper, tissues, etc. This week we did buy a pack of disposable gloves in case we still travel (I thought the big advantage of wearing them on public transportation would be that it would make me very aware of whether my I'm touching my face). I've been doing an inventory of cleaning/sanitizing stuff I have. I have about 1/2 cup of hand sanitizer. Lots of clorax wipes. Some household cleaning spray. Some bleach. 1 cup of rubbing alcohol... can't buy any individually wrapped sanitizing wipes anymore, so I guess I'll take some of my clorax wipes in a Ziploc bag to carry with me.

Our local movie theater said they'll remain open, but will only sell 1/3 of capacity for each theater. My husband and I laughed, because many of the movies we see have about 10-15 other patrons our age. 1/3 of the seats sold would seem crowded :)

I've used being sick and the general unease, unsettling vibes as a reason to eat some junk. I'm back to eating healthier, whole foods, there is no junk in the house. Although if we do go to a movie this afternoon, there will be popcorn.

Schools have not been closed statewide, stating epidemiological reports do not indicate that doing so slows transmission. We start spring break Friday. Personally, I dread going online. So much of my day involves interacting with students, even during my prep sometimes. In order to fill an online day, I envision lots of tedious paperwork. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe non student contact time will be spent developing or adapting curriculum, which I do find interesting. Whatever happens, I'll deal with it.

Hope everyone is doing okay, and Devon found some toilet paper.

OH ate my post. Argh.

So short recap, I faced the scale. 191. Not nearly as bad as I expected given how I've been eating. So much so I weighed twice.

Staying home again today. I think that (and washing your hands) is the #1 thing people can do to stop spreading and catching anything that will stress the medical system for the time being. Gathering by the thousands at Costco is the opposite. But humans being humans look to see what other humans are doing when they're scared and do "that". Hence buying tp by the truck load. Staying home will do more good for the world than anything. There are 13 known cases in my county.

Take care all!

Boy, I do not deserve to have lost 0.4 pounds since yesterday, given the beef and bourbon feast I enjoyed last night. Although I brought home lots of leftovers, it's silly to pretend I didn't over-do it, since there were five courses served over the course of three hours, each course paired with a different bourbon ****tail. So gather 'round, VSG (non-vegan) foodies and salivate with me.

The chefs (two men in their 30s) had purchased an 18-pound beef loin that had been wet-aged for 21 days; they then dry-aged it for another 30 days--neither too short nor too long a time, they said.

Here are the five beef dishes they prepared:

1. Beef tartar with poached egg and toast points. I ADORE beef tartar, and the neighborhood chicken who laid my egg was a genius! (I ate all the tartar, all the egg, and half the toast points.)

2. A beets and beef salad that was shockingly good. (I brought 2/3 of the salad home.)

3. BBQ'ed burnt tips glazed with a blueberry BBQ sauce and wrapped in butter lettuce, topped with slaw and sliced radishes. (OMG! I could eat this every day! I ate all of this dish but a couple of bites, which, of course, I brought home.)

4. A classic tenderloin steak served with asparagus tips, local grilled mushrooms and drizzled with a wine-based sauce, with a generous serving of cheese grits prepared with more local mushrooms and cheeses. (I had three small bites of the steak, one bite of the grits, and hollered "Uncle!" I brought the rest of this dish home and will have it for dinner tonight with a green salad.

5. Dessert was a chocolate chip cookie made with not only butter but beef tallow that the chefs had worked hard to render and were very proud of producing. (I ate it all ... duh!)

On the ****tail front, although I hate to leave any good poured liquor undrunk, no way could I have downed all five bourbon drinks and driven home last night. I estimate that over three hours at table I put away the equivalent of three ****tails. Then after dinner our public library chief librarian and I found a corner and had a good chin-wag for an hour, which gave my brain/body more time to recover from the bacchanalia.

I don't have any idea how many calories or grams of anything I ate. For lunch just now I had the leftover beet and beef salad and the few bites of leftover blueberry-BBQ glazed burnt tips along with some sautéed chicken left over from a meal last week.

I loved everything about the evening, but I'm fantasizing most about the chocolate chip cookie made with tallow. The chefs told us there weren't any leftover cookies in the kitchen. I think they were lying.

P.S. Last night I slept like a baby. :)

Stop! You're killing me!!!!

The beef tallow sounds mighty interesting. With an 18#loin, I?m sure there was enough fat to render. Since I?m sure it was a quality piece of meat, the tallow was choice, and no doubt impacted the flavor of the cookie. (I?m jealous). BTW, a superior grade chicken will yield such a hard, Snow White and perfectly solid fat that used in a buttermilk biscuit or crust for a pot pie, is to die for. I never considered animal fat for baked deserts...Hmmmmm.

Damn, Bonnie! You know stuff about stuff I didn't know there was stuff about. Thank you.

And now you know about tallow chocolate chip cookies. Good tradeoff. :)

Yes Ann, you did have me drooling! Sounds heavenly, and worth any bump on the scale. And hooray for a sleeve that can slow our roll, leaving the party to continue with left overs.
