Some days are just weird. And some days the scale is just weird. And that's OK, because life is like that--often just weird.

Yesterday, I was super-pooped after my Saturday night out (although, gee, it wasn't that big a deal!) and spent most of the day reading and napping. Apparently, 2,800 daily steps is what happens when you are prone most of the day. And clearly, I did not mow.

I've now had enough sleep to sustain an alpha mama elephant. Assuming the college library is open today, I'll head over there to start my "2020 Serious Writing Practice." Heck, I might even mow this afternoon.

The weather here today is fine--another blue sky with a predicted high of 51.

Today is January 6, 2020, otherwise known as "Twelfth Night" (the twelfth night after Christmas) and in New Orleans is the first night of Mardi Gras. Tonight the balls will be preceded by men in white tails marching up boulevards to join their ladies at the ball. Some of my Uptown friends belong to the original Twelfth Night krewe and put on a splendid ball. I'll be sorry to miss it, but I will not miss the travel and lifestyle commitments that would be required to participate.

Today's theme: Life is full of a number of things.

153.8 , 3.8#down since 1/1 - 8.8# to go

and so go the consequences of mindless-no- intentioned (to the negative) eating at a "last of the season" gathering. With it - the crappy physical feeling (sugar and white carbs metabolized rapidly into sugar = intense pancreas overload and this morning...(counterproductive) thoughts of medicating with, you guessed it- more crappy food. Go figure.

Am going to try to make this a decision less day. Not going to worry about recouping lost ground from yesterday. Today's goal: do not turn one day of bad acting into a trend and-----

Do no (further) harm.

Wish me luck, there is an opened can of cashews calling at me to "eat me first, then restart", and we all know where that line of thinking takes us.

Weight 136.2 (same as yesterday). Saturday's weight at 134.8 must have been a dehydrated weight after days of sitting in overheated rooms. That's okay - I'm doing okay with eating, tracking and daily weighing so I feel good about it. I'm pretty sure I can fit into my funeral clothes though I better check.

BIL helped me take down and put away all the Christmas decorations yesterday which was a relief. It was also a relief when he decided to go home last night and not stay to keep me "company". It feels good to have an evening on my own right now though some people don't get that.

I went to yoga this morning and am going to my support group this afternoon. Dinner with two SILs, but then I can be alone again tonight which is good. I am trying to stay in a routine but still take care of necessary details. All of that comforts me (control and getting things done). That's how I learned to cope early on with loss.

It is cold and grey here. I miss the Florida warmth every time I take Justice for a walk. Enjoy your Monday!

Boy oh boy, is all that familiar territory, Liz.

After the first few days, my constant plaint, sometimes out loud, sometimes not, was: "I just need to be alone."

Like you, routine and control was the only salve for my grief that worked at all. And yoga felt like medicine to me.

New word for me: plaint. Thanks for that! I wonder if its origins are American colloquial. It sounds like slang or a lazy pronunciation for complaint.

Oh, my dear ... "plaint" is so much more than some low-brow colloquialism. ;)

I used it above to evoke its literary sense ... as in lamentation.

Yes, I figured, but it does sound that way to me... Hey, ain't used to be a high falootin word until the masses started to use it. Then the upper crust stopped using it because it was no longer high fashion.

Weight 201.2

Today was my first WW weekly weigh in. I was down 6.6 pounds. I don't expect this next week to be at all impressive after that, but it's a nice start!

I got a text from a sweet friend of mine who had a gastric bypass 8 or 9 years ago. She's not great about taking her supplements. Well she ended up in the hospital last week severely anemic and needing 3 units of blood. I know the sleeve is less prone to deficiencies, but we're not immune, so take your supplements as needed! I started up my iron pills again a week ago as I noticed an uptick in hair loss. Vanity is a good incentive...

My Christmas tree is down and at the curb. I repeat. My Christmas tree is down and at the curb.

Heading off for a hair cut this morning. Enjoy your day everyone!
