I am pretty sure pronation is a big part of my problem, but he didn't even look at me standing or walking. It's more than just the PF. That's in the left foot. The right is painful on the top right and both feet hurt like hell everywhere when I stand up after sleeping or sitting a long time and try to walk. It's an all over pain like what I imagine arthritis to feel like. They feel like I've standing on 100 year old feet.

I did get a board you stand on that stretches your calves and feet, and the reflexology/massage sounds good! I have my foot massager, which feels great. I have to think there is something wrong with my arch support, so I was hoping for custom orthotics, but he wasn't keen on doing that until I try yet another pair of over the counter ones that haven't worked before. I've never had my legs measured. Who would do that?

I don't know who would measure your leg, beyond the PT. Mine is so obvious on my tailored slacks I've never even needed to have mine measured. I simply pointed it out to my podiatrist years ago and he said, let me take a look... yup, you've got one hip higher than the other. Then he took photos of me standing barefoo****ched me walk and took plaster casts of my feet. I had severe pronation and very shallow arches (probably due to my bone disease issues, bowed legs, etc...). He had custom orthotics made for me and I wore them for several years. Next set was less corrective and I eventually stopped wearing them altogether sometime in my late thirties. It did take many years to correct completely, but it was worth it. I'm sorry the podiatrist you saw doesn't seem to be worth his weight in salt.

So much going on! Liz, it's good you are there to direct DH s care. Diane, waiting during a surgery for someone you love is nerve racking, I hope DH is now recovering and headed toward a good outcome. Peps, I must admit, I feel a bit uneasy about Ella too. Glad the pups are still in the okay zone. Cecily, is there a reason you don't want to do physical therapy for your foot? The PT might be able to give you answers the podiatrist didn't. Sure sounds like a jerk. Like Diane S, I'm just finishing up a regular old day. One in which much less is accomplished than in a Shirl version of a regular day. We went to see Knives Out when I got home from work. Enjoyed it. We barely beat the grocery delivery home, but we did, and now they've tucked away. DH is putting air in my car's tires, because a sensor told him too. Clever car. I've had it for almost a year, and it still thrills me with it's gadgets. My last car was a 2003 Ford Taurus, car technology on even a mid price vehicles changed a lot in the those 15 years!

I think my resistance comes from feeling like PT isn't going to fix arches that don't get adequate support from any of my shoes. Maybe I'm misunderstanding PT though and what they can do? Like it's addressing the pain instead of fixing the cause of the pain. I'm open to help with stretches and exercises. But if my arches are falling or under supported (I wouldn't know - he never looked!) and nothing is done about that, then would PT help in the long run?

In my PT for ankles, they worked very hard to get to the root of not just treating pain, but mechanically, what was going on. They video taped my gait and broke it down, and they actually did go to the doctor to get an order for custom orthotics. So maybe PT is worth a try?

That sounds much more promising than what I thought it would be!
