I hope we hear from Diane soon. I know we are all worried.

It is COLD here - 33 right now. And we change our clocks tonight so it will be dark an hour earlier. I really hate the time change and wi**** would be abolished. I wonder how DH and the others at his facility will manage...

Not much planned today. Maybe I will remove the old carpet runner from the stairs and paint the risers. And/or maybe walk on the beach with Justice. I might possibly go out to the nearby sports bar tonight to hear a group play who are supposed to be quite good.

Have a warm and sunny Saturday!

I'll be going home this morning ! The echo cardiogram showed no change in my valve regurgitation !ð?'?ð?' no more A fib, and I have an out patient stress test Monday, but current thinking is that my symptoms were caused by a combination of low potassium and reactive hypoglycemia. My glucose level was 45 in the ambulance . I'll be monitoring my glucose for a few weeks, along with MFP logging, prior to meeting with endocrinologist. Apparently RH is a thing with 34% of bariatric patients 2+ years out.

Good news that it isn't your heart! I thought RH usually happened with bypass, not VSG?

Current studies are showing that reactive non diabetic hypoglycemia happens most in surgeries bypassing the pyloric valve, but as VSGers adjust to maintenance, they often decrease vigilance about dense protein first, eating a wider variety of foods simultaneously (soups, stews, frittatas) as opposed to early days when we prioritized dense protein then a couple of bites of veggies or healthy carbs with our remaining stomach space. The evening I tanked, I made glazed salmon and steamed carrots for dinner. In retrospect, I ate a bite of carrots then one of salmon, a couple bites of carrots and one of salmon. My pyloric valve may not have worked optimally as I diluted my protein. Cooked carrots are higher on the glycemic index. I also had ice cream.

Diane, I had no idea that reactive hypoglycemia manifested in so many bariatric patients. So happy you're out of hospital jail and going home. And thanks for letting us know what's going on. I will keep an eye on those symptoms for myself in the future and feel better educated this morning about what could happen.

Again, jeez Louise! That must have been so frightening.

Weight unknown but was 163 yesterday. Shocking.

Diane-so scary! Please check in when you can and glad you are under watchful care

Liz-I don't think there are any time constraints here. It has been very cold here as well (around 30s for trick or treaters which is really cool for OK) so I was surprised that they didn't begin earlier. I'd say the unspoken rule here is 6-9, but preferably 6-8. I don't understand how people can start ToT'ing earlier! Hubby doesn't even get home until 6! Surprisingly this year we didn't have many treaters until 6:30 or even 7, but I guess what happened was the cold weather kept the littlest ones in, and they're usually the early ones!

It looked like DH's facility had a trick or treat? That's something I really want to do next year--take the kids to a nursing home/assisted living or something. I know how much my grandmother loved seeing the little ones dressed up. Things like that really make their year.

I did buy candy. And actually we give away full size. But it may surprise you (or not) to know that full size candy bars are actually less tempting to me. I know exactly how much I've eaten and how many calories. They are a commitment. Whereas the "fun size" can be easily forgotten. So it's Becca's candy that has been tempting me. Every time I have to wake up to feed Charlotte I've been digging in--and that's bad news since we're having a run of bad sleep!

Trying to take down my Halloween and fil in my fall with cornucopias and pilgrims. I love fall and Thanksgiving so I kind of hate skipping over it right to Christmas. at the same time, this year more than ever "Christmas" season is shorter bc Thanksgiving is so late. Plus add 2 kids and there's no way I can get it all done. So I think I'll slowly add. Landscapers will do "up" outside lights this week. And if there's a nice weekend, DH and will take care of the rest in the next few weekends. That doesn't bother me. It's outside, no need to switch on. We aren't having Thanksgiving so I'm thinking maybe take advantage of big tree while DH is off that week. I can do smaller tree and smaller stuff after Thanksgiving. Only question mark is village--we have our Halloween one up now and love it!

What do you do? I think early Christmas decorating is hotly debated!

On the food front, I've decided I need to start eating MORE. Sounds backwards but I think about how Ann would fill her menu with fruits and veggies. I feel like I've been kind of in existence mode and when I don't eat, I then eat too much of less-healthy foods. I need to start forcing myself to eat a rounded breakfast, make snacks, etc. And Becca will probably benefit from this as well. I'm still debating on gym. I just don't like the Y. It doesn't motivate me. But it is extremely nice, has great childcare, and is cheaper. Plus I guess I could make mom friends. But DH wouldn't really want to go unless we're taking the kids, etc. The closer gym to me that DH and I love doesn't have great childcare but because of this it's usually available/not waitlisted (haha!). It's like a mile from the house. But it's also the one that tried to turn us over the collections even though we canceled 6 months prior. And it took me forever to get it resolved/speak to a manager. It's a principle thing. But I much prefer it! And it has cardio cinema. Real gym stuff, great free weights, TRX, etc. Not great for kids, but at my kids ages I don't think it matters yet. But it's more expensive and they've already screwed me. But the reality is DH probably won't be able to work out with me anyway. Becca sleeps 12 hours at night. Which means when he gets home he gets 1 hour with them! Ugh and that's the same truth I'm battling about going back to work.

Then there's at-home workouts/gym stuff. It's never worked for me. But mayvbe I just haven't tried hard enough. Thought about getting a dvd system like Insanity or P90x. Make myself wake up before girls do. Ha. As if I haven't stated this lie before. Or beachbody on demand. We did get a cheapie treadmill last year but it was so cheapie and lacked shock absorption that DH and I hated it. Maybe if we got a nicer one? BIL has a Peloton but dang those things are pricy. Man, truth is time is hard to come by. Ugh.

Hey the good news is we do get an extra hour tomorrow! Bad news is I'll be up at 5am lol

IMHO, I'd probably do the Y if those are your only choices. Because I think socialization for my children and me were most important at the point you are at. But that's me.

And on the work angle, I know you know that I think part-time is the best of both worlds... I used to do two long days a week. Again, IMHO.

Yeah I go back and forth on this. My sister works part-time (she's chemical engineer) and she feels like her job tries to cram her full of work on the days she's there, and then struggles with not being available to do "fun" stuff on days she's working (like class Halloween parties).

I also know another attorney who felt like she got the yuck work because she needed flexibility to not be at work all the time.

For me, the difficulty is in finding what work would be part-time. I could do consulting work and that would give me the flexibility I need, but there are a couple challenges with that: finding work to come my way could be another job in and of itself, and finding childcare for that time.

I have some friends who do nannies and that's nice because I don't have to pack kids up and take them somewhere. However, I'm now a BIG fan of daycare. Honestly that might be my No. 1 reason for going back to work. I took Becca to Halloween festival at church where she attended she yelled YAY about half a dozen times! Coincidence? Maybe. She hasn't done this for anything else I've taken her to!! So I'm a little less thrilled about nanny because I think she greatly benefits from "curriculum" and the socialization.

But then daycare is all or nothing. Ugh. Already back on the list...but they say it might not be until August. Sheesh.

Mothers Day out is a real in-between option I might look into. 9-2:45 (kinda like school) and up to 4 days a week. Maybe I'd do 3 days. And maybe I'd work for my parents "contract" so that I'd know I'd have some work, and then try to build up my own work flow. Downside to MDO is the hours. Most dockets are 9am or 2pm. So I couldn't do that. But I could do the more transactional/research work.

It's just hard. I know my career is taking a backseat probably regardless. and I think I"m okay with it. But then I have moments where I remember what my previous goals were. I worked really hard. And now sometimes I forget that I'm actually intelligent. Just not working that muscle, ya know?
