We had a brief break in the rain, so I blew leaves into a big row ( and also dried them a bit !) and got about a quarter of the back yard done in just under two hours. Yes, saturated leaves are heavier than dry ones !
I am drinking too much wine and have identified times I am using it to stuff feelings. Not good at all. Tomorrow's upper GI is a good time to reevaluate a lot of things...and alcohol is certainly not good for reflux. I have my next session with my therapist this coming Friday, so we'll have lots to talk about. We haven't purchased and Halloween candy yet. Thursday looks like a washout here, and our typical hoards could be greatly reduced, so we want to find something neither of us particularly care for, and not chocolate. One of my former teachers lost her golden this weekend, when he got into a bag of Hershey bars off the counter when they were out to dinner.

Good morning!
i did go over to visit with DH yesterday while the Montessori children trick or treated. DH is really getting out of it as it was hard for him to even notice the kids. He still walks around but is like a walking zombie. Though he did make it clear that he didn't like the male personal care attendant who had given him a shower. I'm not terribly surprised, as he is usually more comfortable with women doing that. Maybe because his mother was a nurse and I was previously doing the personal care?
My day is going to be mixed: Laundry, bills and shower, then this evening I am supposed to meet a friend for dinner about 45 minutes away. It will be raining so I'm not sure I really want to go...
I am not buying Halloween candy and won't even be home. I'm going to Portsmouth NH on Wednesday and staying overnight so I won't leave for home until later in the day. That's my candy avoidance strategy!
Have a sortable Sunday!

Good Sunday morning, all!
Going to be a lovely day again- up to and perhaps a bit into the 70s and sunny with little breeze- a trifecta!
Again, nothing much cooking on the back burner, here. Yesterday's walk was so very nice, that a repeat is in order. DS#2 over for the weekend. We think he's taking a break away from the toxic (my label) relationship that he can't seem to extract himself from---(Yah, the same one we were rejoicing his being out of last year). What is it about dysfunction that, even when we step back from it, we, are drawn back to our own vomit, as if it- the behavior-environment-self talk-substance-person, having been a part of us, we must re-take in? I, guilty as the worse offender continue to workout my own salvation with fear and trembling.
Diane- self inventory is indeed a good thing- have at it. And take gentle care of yourself tomorrow- I hope any treatment will be the proverbial "walk in the park" variety!
I hear DH and kiddo up and about- best off to nab more coffee- This is apt to be a two grinder morning.
Stay safe, west coast friends.

Good morning! Another long sleep in today, and I'm feeling great. Today, some laundry, some reading (Sunday Paper), and controversy club. Today's topic is Primal Beliefs. It's a psychological theory that our thoughts, views are driven by a set of beliefs we learned or adopt at a very young age: the world is safe vs. the world is dangerous, the world is just vs the world is unjust etc. If you're interested, just Google Primal Beliefs and you will find a wealth of information, including a quiz to find out where you are on the various continums.
Halloween candy, sigh. I love it so much. My sleeve tolerates it. I'm going to be at school until 4:30, and DH will be in Madison helping our son move into his new apartment. Maybe I should do as Liz, and busy myself elsewhere. Or maybe I'll buy a few bags and shut off the lights once that's gone. It's going to be bitterly cold here, so the little ones will be out early. Regardless, I need a plan so I am not left with bags of candy.

Organizing of my trip stuff has started in the spare room. I re-waterproofed my jacket and need to spritz it to see if it worked.
Yesterday's knitting brunch was so much fun, but I fear I overdid at the very least with salt as the scale was up a pound. But I choose to focus on all the food wins yesterday. I lost count of the number of "wants" I considered and shot down - Halloween candy at the brunch, peanut m&ms at both Walgreens and Target. A trip to Dairy Queen for ice cream considered and dismissed, a trip to the grocery store for ice cream too (my inner little person was rationalizing ice cream and trying to convince me to go get some because it was so hot), ordering takeout for dinner when I had healthy stuff at home, which I ultimately ate instead. So it could have been so much worse if I had been weak.
My Halloween strategy is flying over the international date line and missing the 31st entirely! We take off on 10/30 and land on 11/1.
LOL! Even better than my Halloween strategy!

It is dry. It is VERY windy. I was awakened by the sounds of sirens traveling up the main road about a mile away. There is a fire in the wilderness a few miles from here. The neighborhoods that are adjacent to the state park and intermingled with the open space are being evacuated. We have downed live power lines here and there. I80 is closed in the area near where Shirl and I had dinner because of high winds and a fire. And the most dramatic news of all (very sarcastically written...) is the dog show in Dixon has been cancelled today!
I am coping with the events by looking at property in Delaware! HAHAHAHA! These fires are becoming an annual event. I do not like it!
I'm going to do some housework and chores and stick close by the house just in case these winds whip up some trouble here. Don't want anything to prevent me from getting the dogs to safety, if needed. ?The FD and PDs around here are quick to close down access to streets during fires. I don't blame them, but nothing comes between me and my dogs!
Sirens are starting up again so I'm guessing they are having trouble containing the blaze out on Marsh Creek. Again, I'm not worried as it is pretty far away from me right now.
I think I need another cup of coffee!
BB's Halloween pic on FB sure looked like a fun time was had by all!
Diane O., so nice that you are able to identify issues before they become an issue. I do believe for normal drinkers there are ebbs and flows to intake. I see that in my BF. He rarely drinks, but sometimes when he is dealing with the long term stress of a depressive episode his intake becomes more regular - one or two drinks per evening for a few weeks. Then he just stops again and goes back to normal.
I am dealing with the internal belief that I am entitled to eat a diet high in sugar because I have given up booze and cigarettes. While I can easily say I don't ever want to drink alcohol again and I don't ever want to smoke again, I can not say the same about sugar and processed foods.
I had a dream last night about cigarettes. I didn't smoke, but there was the lure and I had them in my hand for some reason. I wonder if my stress level is elevated??? Hnmmmnm..... My shrink would like to know about this dream, but it's not clear enough in my memory.
Well, I should get on with my day instead of rambling on here.....
Cheerio!
Peps... tried to channel you today as I did a gym day, blended between strength and resistance. I don't totally buy in to one over the other... may have to go with a personal trainer for a few sessions to come up with what I need.
Age: 64; 5' 5"; High weight: 345; Start weight: 271 (01/05/15); Surgery weight: 218 (05/27/15); Pre-Op (-53); M 1 (-18); M 2 (-1.5); M 3 (-13.5 ); M 4 (-13); M 5 (- 8); M 6 (-12) M 7 (-5, Xmas); M 8 (- 9) Under surgeon's goal and REACHED HEALTHY BMI 12/07/15!! You needn't buy into one over the other because strength and resistance training are synonymous! The difference lies between endurance training and strength/resistance training. Endurance training, in most individuals, ages the body rather than strengthening the body.
The one thing I recommend is to not get into a set routine with your workout. In the beginning I of my training I was given a choreographed workout for an entire week - same routine each time I went to the gym for that week. Now, my workout is different every single day. That way none of my muscle groups get into a routine and I'm sparking different mind body connections all the time. Having a personal trainer for a while will help you establish different routines for your workout so your body and muscles don't get into a rut.
When you look for a personal trainer, make sure your trainer understands the importance of strengthening connective tissue. At our age connective tissue is extremely important. Connective tissue (ligaments, tendons) is our lifeline to mobility and flexibility as we age.
Without the work I've done to strengthen the connective tissue in my elbows, I'd never be able to do those explosive jump up pushups I shared.
Hope that all makes sense.
BTW - House is dusted..... Now to vacuum... (yes, reverse order I know....LOL)
