Today is day 2 of what is supposedly a Nor'easter. The weather people seem to make a huge deal out of everything these days. There has been a fair amount of wind and some rain but it certainly isn't much of a big deal. The only being around here who is affected is Justice *****ally hates being out in wind and rain (maybe due to experiences when he was a stray).

I was thinking about the packing issue when I read Cecily's post yesterday. I'm going to bring one large suitcase to Florida this year and probably not ship since I will be coming back and forth this winter. Right now I'm thinking three trips: mid November to mid December (already booked), mid January to early February, late February to late March or early April. One benefit is that I can use my regular hairdresser here. The one I used in Florida kept over-highlighting my hair and it has taken from May to now to get my hair back to my more normal color where a fair amount of the mix is my own brown hair.

This morning I am going to yoga, then I am hoping to get a shingles shot. What a pain to get one. The local Walgreens has a waiting list of 250 people. CVS provides 10 shots every other week. The first 10 people who call after noon today get their shots today or tomorrow. Crazy!

This evening, DS is cooking for the two SILs, my DD, and his two cousins. Should be fun.

Have a fine Friday!

Regarding the shingles shot, after months on the waiting list at Walgreens, my dad's wife checked at the local grocery store that has a pharmacy and they had loads. So maybe check similar stores if you don't get picked!

Liz sounds like a charming evening. Good food and good company. Glad the storm isn't as bad as predicted. DD and a friend are on their way from Boston to NYC on the Megabus for the weekend.

I came home from work early due to the cold that won't die. I could have toughed it out, but team teaching lesson plans flexible, plus no meetings scheduled, paperwork deadlines met... it looked like an opportunity to get a few more hours of sleep (nap coming soon) and get back online for next week's challenges and delights.

Cecily, hope your journey home is uneventful and you don't miss Ferg too much. Good luck with the luggage. :)

Liz, that doesn't sound like a real Nor-easter, at all! Kind of like our super duper wind storm here that never materialized.

Thank goodness the scale dropped a pound today. I will feel better when the next two go away. LOL! I spent some time in thought about how to go about dropping some of this weight. I am beginning to feel the motivation stir at a deep level. That's a good thing. I'm glad I'm also not hell bent on losing 100 pounds. I just want to lose some so I feel a bit more comfortable in my skin. I am planning on re-evaluating as I go.

Wonderfully sore from Wednesday's workout. Isn't it odd that we can enjoy some types of muscle pain and other types put us on the floor? I plan to get a workout in today after school and, hopefully, tomorrow morning, too. I feel like I need to catch up after not working out for a week.

At what age should one consider getting the shingles vaccine? Must read up on that! I had chicken pox as a kiddo, so I know I am harboring the shingles virus. My hope is that it never gets activated, but the vaccine sounds like a good idea. I know shingles can be quite painful.

Fantastical Fridays to you all!

The shot nurse says above 50 yr old and older. If you had chicken pox as a kid you are more likely to have them. If you did not have chicken pox as a kid you need to also get the chicken pox vaccine. I had chicken pox as a kid. Shingles about 8yrs ago. And both the zostivax and shingrix since then. Immunity remains at the highest for 4-5 years. Do not know about re vaccination.

  1. We have always used independent pharmacies. Even before there were 2 in the family. We have found the independent pharmacy to be focused more on customer service over the absolute bottom line. We had to wait a week for the pharmacy to get it in. After that it has not been a problem. DW is shot nurse some. Not all pharmacies provide injections as a service. DIL saw it as an additional income stream. The big pharmaceutical and big box pharmacies and insurance companies are squeezing the independent pharmacies out.
  2. I don't know why this is numbering my paragraphs.
  3. DD is traveling to Portland, Oregon today so we will have a weekend of babysitting. It will be easier for her if we sleep at her house. Easier for us if we sleep here.
  4. Got up this morning and washer/dryer is not working. It is a combo unit. You put them in dirty and the com out dry. 110 volts and it is ventless. If we end up with new ones I will have to run a 220v line and place a exhaust vent.

Greetings Friends

No weight today but I think I will dare tomorrow. I have been off kilter for a couple of days but need to resume routine.

Liz stay safe in the storm. Yeah weather people are prone to exageration. Making their own news. Have a fun dinner.

DD good for you for taking advantage of a time window to rest. We are all too prone to toughing it out and being more productive. Not a good thing. Caring for yourself is indeed productive.

Well I joined the health club but have yet to visit it. Was supposed to have a personal trainer consult but changed date due to power failure. I will try to get over and into the pool.

Peps hope you are past the wind storms there. We are still paying the price for the power outage - grocery stores had to toss a lot of stuff.

Shingles shots - I think I had one at age 60 or so but I think there is that new one I have to get.

Cecily good luck with packing. That must be the hard part about having two homes. I can barely manage one as it is. Have a safe trip.

I got a frozen pizza last night. It was terrible. Going to toss the rest.

More straightening up to do. Seems like I spend more time thinking about cleaning than actually doing it. Must go sit in hot tub to contemplate this.

Take care all. Diane S

I hate keeping up 2 homes. So we rented the house out. No second electric, water, or yard work. I am guessing I make an additional $150 a month by having tenants in it.

I owned a duplex for about 3.5 years. I lived in one and rented the other. I did not like being a landlord at all. My first tenant didn't understand how showering 2 adults and bathing 3 small children daily and never opening the windows could produce mold. OMG! Then she had no idea how to clean the mold, so I had to do it! It amazes me with how little practical or common sense some people walk around the planet.

I am amazed at the lack of common sense also. We only did a year to see how it would go. I thought the property would be worth more than it appraised for (95K) I was thinking about 160-170k. The land was 35k. If they tare it up I will be upset.
