Got more sleep last night (6.5 hours) and would have slept longer, but a bloody system glitch turned on the house alarm at 2:36 a.m. Rats!
Yesterday's book club discussion was good. BTW, Michele Obama's memoir, Becoming, was good. I learned that her book (for which she received a $60 million advance) has sold more than 10 million copies and could wind up being the best-selling memoir ever. Bam!
Today there will be no mowing. Instead, I have a play date--a girlfriend and I are taking her Corvette convertible on a day-long road trip around Ozark hills and lakes. Will be fun. :)
On today's playlist: Springsteen's "Born to Run"
Bonus selection: Sheryl Crow's "Everyday Is a Winding Road"

- I learned/relearned: Identifying things I?m grateful for IS powerful !
I have my first visit with my new therapist at ten, then we pick up our rings. I really want to get the back yard mowed as it should be sunny and 80. I love this time of year, when it is 40 at night and 70-80 during the day !!
BB- Continued positive support as you deal with loss. I?m thinking the double whammy of the explants and your Grandmamma are exacerbated by surgery related hormonal fluctuations. It is wonderful that you are looking for opportunities for your parents and daughters to build a relationship similar to what you experienced with your grandmamma. It will look like what it looks like, and all you can do is nouri**** You ARE growing up before our very eyes, but then again, aren?t we all ?!
Shirl? you must write a book or article on doing the west coast right ! Sunday, when you and Peps are raising a glass at Deadfish, take lots of pictures and feel the affection and envy of the tribe !
Ann, I loved Michele Obama?s autobiography. Such a bright and classy lady, who earned it all ! Yes, we do have to tangle with the monkey every day ! So, as I picture you on today?s adventures, will you be Thelma or Louise ?
Liz, these next few weeks will be such a transition ! You are in my thoughts so much ! I'm sure your rational, logical mind knows that the "real" Paul would want you to do exactly what you are doing, and would want you to live a happy fulfilled life. Focusing on that and the fact that he will be safe and well cared for will not be easy. We're here ? for you !
Dave, so glad to hear you are serious about pain management before and after PT. Icing is so important ! I often use frozen bags of cheap nibblet sized vegetables I don?t like as a break from hard frozen ice chunks. Hope you get that zero turn mower going !
Peps, you?ll have those little characters demonstrating self control in no time ! One of the most clever bulletin boards I ever saw was entitled Who?s In Control of? with stems such as
your success?
what you do when you?re frustrated?
how much free time you have ?
your happiness ?
The teacher then put the corresponding number of hand mirrors next to each stem. Very powerful !
Ceci, can?t wait to see the door ! That OH speaker was full of crap ! MRIs show the brain lighting up with food addictions similarly to other addictions. Hermit ? Really ?! How about solitude oriented ?
DD, I fondly remember the first room rearrangement of the year, designed to preempt potential challenges ! May the force be with you. How great that your son helped !
Diane, in case I haven?t already voted twice, YES, YES, YES to the health club ! You are worth it, and you will so enjoy it !!! Hope the sinus infection is better.
Miss Bonnie?don?t make us come over there and get you !!! You are missed !!

What a GREAT post, DianeO!
Actually, I am the one who needs that exact same bulletin board you described ... "Who's in charge of ...?" In fact, I just had the not-unserious idea that I really should make bulletin boards for myself. I could go to the Teacher Supply Store and get all that stuff and DO IT! :)
And re Thelma vs. Louise, I'm neither one. I'm Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop! :)

I went to see the new Downton Abbey movie today. So good! But honestly, listening to the conversations of the people around me before it started (I was alone and the theater pretty full, so it was hard not to listen!) was cringeworthy.
Comments noted:
One woman told her friend that her husband Chuck can wear the same socks for 5 days in a row and his feet never smell. (Chuck is clearly a freak of nature and has hygiene issues, or the woman has anosmia.)
Another woman went on for 5 minutes about how her veins roll all over the place so she has trouble with blood draws, and when they do get a hold of them, they have to SHOVE it in because her veins are also really thick. Lady, we're eating popcorn here.
One was going on and on about how she had a booklet she used with her children that "had everything about 'poooberty' that someone who wants to get married and have a family needs to know" and she wished it wasn't lost in the fire so she could share it with her now great-grandchildren. Seriously, how old was that pamphlet??
Another loudly complained that she couldn't see over me when I got there 15 minutes before her. Where have good manners gone?
Sigh. Anyway, having shrimp spinach salad for dinner after popcorn for lunch. At least one is a healthy choice! Not much else to report.
Hello from the sweet repose of my bed! I pretty much came in the door, set my stuff down, climbed the stairs and flopped on my bed. In some ways it's been a harrowing week, and my tank is empty. The needs of students are emerging rapidly this 3rd week of school. A couple of times I've paused and thought, this is too hard, I can't do it. But I did do it, and I can keep on doing it, now that it's Friday, and I can refill the tank. Tomorrow will be tai chi, and then operation get my life back in order with grocery shopping and laundry. Right now there's a bit of brie cheese, some strawberries on the verge of molding, some milk and a couple of yogurts. Sounds delicious, right? I have exactly one pair of clean panties in the drawer. So yes, tomorrow, I'll take care of it all, but for now, I'm going to lay on this bed and breath. Maybe, I'll muster enough energy to go open a bottle of wine. Or maybe I'll just stick with the intoxicating notion of doing nothing but breathing. Everybody's working for the weekend, indeed!
