HA!! My two adult working years that were not teaching were spent doing casework/counseling at a minimum security boot camp (alternative to prison turnaround sentence option for young adult men). Every morning of the world the Drill Sargent would blast that song into the two mass dorm rooms (109 men) promptly at 5:15 am. LOVED IT!!!! Late 1980's- (Boy, do I have stories from that place- the criminal justice system is a good-ol-boy dysfunctional train wreck- so glad a teaching position opened (which is, in itself another kind of---WAIT! Don't get me started. I'm retired.)
What a scene that boot camp must have been! Haven't our lives been interesting?

Ann I love shopping, cooking, reading at a more measured pace. Now I can be a model of speed and hyper efficiency, because that's what needs to be done sometimes. But I resent too many deadlines at once, and no plans is my favorite kind of weekend. No plans doesn't mean nothing will happen, it means serendipity will lead me to what I was really longing to do and give me time to process.
So this weekend, DH works, and DS is at a musical festival in Wisconsin. (Makes me happy thinking of him there with some of his best friends from far flung places. He's also performing as a DJ, so a truly great weekend). My only plans are to go to a Tai Chi class I just signed up for. It's 6 weeks, less than a mile from my house, through community ed. At first I was all, eh, I don't know about getting up at 8am on a Saturday... myself and I had a talk, what are you waiting for, you've been sad there are no tai chi classes nearby, here's your chance! 8am is still sleeping in. Signed up, and very much looking forward to it now. Plus I have some really cute active wear I bought on clearance this summer that needs to be worn!!!
School is off to as good of a start as I can remember. Really delightful kids. Some already meaningful moments. Our new principal is continuing to bring a positive energy that begets more positivity.
Last afternoon/evening, we made our way to one of the Minneapolis lakes with a picnic and the kayak. After dinner, DH kayakers (my hand still out of commission) while I read. Shook the cobwebs out of my head a little more gently than the rollercoaster shook Shirl ....
And now a package had arrived, an anniversary gift from a beloved aunt and uncle: champagne flutes in a Tiffany box. Now I'm not a label seeker, but I must say, seeing that iconic blue box thrilled me. It is my first gift in a Tiffany box, and probably my only. And that is okay. New plan to add to the weekend, must buy and drink champagne, and send a picture to my auntie. It's the polite thing to do, wouldn't you agree? :)
LOL!

I'm with Miss150 -- new workout gear is thrilling to me, too. I look forward to hearing about your Tai Chi experience. I've never done that. But it looks like it could be darned interesting.
Also, your aunt and uncle deserve one of the world's BEST thank you notes for sending you an anniversary present this far into your marital tenure. Classy folks, your relatives!

Late, late post! The fire danger has passed. Whew. Today was cold, windy, and gray in MI. I walked 4.25 miles at a fast pace with my dad, ate pretty well, and went out to dinner where I didn't choose too badly and didn't finish because it wasn't that great. I'm down 6 pounds from my awful high. Not keeping food in my house is working for me. When I really want to eat for the sake of eating and there isn't anything here, that slightly frantic feeling tells me not having food around is a good thing for me right now.
Not much else transpiring now and boring feels pretty good!
Yea! On all counts. :)

I'm with Ann! A relief on the fire and great job on the eating. I need to get inspired on that front.

I think it's much easier when it's only you you have to feed. I would eat other people's food if it was here (and I do over at my dad's house). And I could make a binge out of oatmeal. So right now the only stuff here is coffee, protein shakes, blueberries, and yogurt. I make dinner for all of us in the big house so none of those ingredients are readily accessible to me. It really limits my ability to comfort eat! With you having DS and DH there it must be much harder. Maybe Florida will be easier for you? And with your walking group, more fun exercise?
