Where is everyone? We are waiting for the remnants of Dorian to arrive late today. It should just be a fair amount of rain with some wind but not a lot. DSD arrived home safely last night in Jacksonville.

Today I am sitting here while the plumber figures out why my new washer is always using ho****er even in the rinse. Apparently the pipes were reserved so the one labeled as hot is actually cold and vice versa!

After that I am going to lunch with lifelong friends (twins, both of whom live near me).

Have a fine Friday!

I am sleeping in an air conditioned space. Free of hurricanes. I am thankful.

Got a refill on pain meds yesterday. Woke this morning at 5 itching all over. And that is the difference between oxycod and hydroco. I am a nurse, I should have looked at the label better. The milligram is the same.

Sleeve is working wonderfully. Unable to eat all of my portions. Double thankful.

They gave me physical therapy to do 3 times a day. A wee****il my post-op office visit. I have not done all of them because of pain. I'm going to buck it up. Did them all this morning.

Also the first mini split AC unit I installed, it is not cooling. I think I know what I did wrong but had to call a real installer to clean up my mess. Totally embarrassed.

I found this in file on the computer. Thought it was good description the first time I read it. my 11th grade and, 17 yrs later, sophomore in college english teacher wrote this about his mother. He told me he never could come up with a name for this so it was given to me un named.

But, behold, I show you a mystery:

She doth not always sleep.

From time to time

She is changed

In a moment

By the twinkling of an eye.

Her four-year-old great granddaughter

Bounces into the room

Flouncing her golden curls,

And my mother?s world

Is bathed in marvelous merriment

And a miracle of lucidity:

Why, here s my doll-baby, she says,

come to see her Meme,

Wearing the dress I gave her for her birthday

and carrying the teddy-bear she got last Christmas.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me

It is a high

I cannot attain to it.

But I too have been shown a mystery:

I see an old, old ship

Sinking

Into a cold, beclouded sea.

Passengers, crew, and officers

(All but one)

Have deserted

Slipping away into silence.

The wireless is down

All engines still.

But, lo, on the bridge

Even as the old, old lady goes down

Into the deep

Into the dark

There at his post

Loyal to the end

True to his charge

Stands love

Rising in glory

Out of the mist.

Exquisite. There at his post, loyal to the end, true to his charge, stands love.

May love accompany us all to the end of this life and into the next.

Other than basic projects of the kind (as in set it where you want, hammer and nail- use the butter knife if you must- then plug it in ) we default directly to "call the guy" mode. That is why a light in my kitchen needs to be replaced after ump-teen many years. Now that a ceiling fan motor has gone on the blink, I guess I have enough on my list to call someone. So, I applaud you for diving in and being a self sufficient kind-o-homeowner.

No shame! Carry on, sir!

Morning projects are complete- prepped a garden salad- chunked zucchini, cucumber, cauliflower, tomatoes, and onion in raspberry vinaigrette. Ahi tuna marinating. I'm done. Like Ann, if I bother with preparation and presentation- food becomes more of a celebration and "some becomes enough".

Just finished wrestling with the clay. The magic of wetting and then percolating the clay in the tub over a period of days has brought it back to life. Tucked it gently to bed in its hamper and ready to go. I've fussed enough with it-probably won't feel much like playing 'till sometime later.

Other than matting and framing some documents for DS's office my plans are modest. It's very warm and humid here and will stay mostly inside- mosquitos are out and about and merciless. Looking forward to that hard freeze and then Indian Summer 'till Thanksgiving!

Liz, the hot and cold lines have been switched in the upstairs bathroom since a renovation a number of years ago. We just adapted, but I can totally see how it would make a huge difference with a washing machine!

Good afternoon, y'all. I got a late start this morning because I slept in, which is a good reason to get a late start. :)

I cannot express how much I'm enjoying this clean food shopping and cooking and paying attention while eating and drinking. It feels like I've gotten part of my brain back. It's so rewarding that I think SLOWING DOWN could be the secret to life, i.e., cooking slow, eating slow, driving slow, doing housework slow, not overscheduling every hour of the day, affirmatively engaging in niksen (Dutch for doing nothing), and not metricizing every single aspect of my self-care. I'm pretty sure my blood pressure these days is 40 over 25 (in a good way, of course).

A slow thing I did this morning was slow grocery shopping at Walmart. I had a medium-length list and paid special attention to which pieces of fruit and veggies I chose, then spent 20 extra minutes looking at other foodstuffs on the shelves, so many good things I've never noticed before. I've always treated grocery shopping as an onerous chore to be completed as quickly as possible. Who knew that I could have fun "shopping" at Walmart the same way I have fun shopping at Nordstrom--wandering around, looking at things, touching them, trying them on ("How would I cook this?"), regardless of whether I buy anything or not.

That's my epiphany for the day. :)

And Bobby McFerrin's got our song for the day: Don't Worry, Be Happy
