I'm loving the individually flash-frozen tilapia filets (Walmart's Great Value brand). Cooked a filet again last night with Creole seasoning and a couple of spritzes of olive oil. Was delish!
Following up on Devon's excellent rant the other day about how many of us focus overmuch on what we're not doing right and don't focus nearly enough on what we're doing well (at least, that was my big takeaway), this morning I did an interesting exercise while writing in my daily journal by listing "Things I'm proud of myself for doing yesterday and am glad that I did" (31 items so far) and "Yesterday's blessings I'm thankful for" (21 items so far). Boy, talk about positive self-talk! To the extent that what we think we become, this could work out quite well.
Yesterday I got to mow for two hours (something I was proud of) because I had a fairly sunny, dry window of opportunity (something I was grateful for).
Tomorrow's a big day for me--DH's and my wedding anniversary. It would have been our 23rd. I am so very definitely thankful for him! And I'm proud of myself for saying "Yes!" even though it felt cray-cray risky when he proposed on our second date (yes, you read that right).
Today's musical gratitude theme comes via Josh Groban: "Thankful"

Apparently I missed posting yesterday, but I did read. I was VERY down most of the day, but I did take DH to a Memory Cafe event and got flowers, etc. for our anniversary. I perked up in the evening
Our 38th anniversary isn't actually until Thursday (the day after yours Ann), but it was the only day DS (our "personal chef") could cook. And boy did he cook! Seared tuna with fresh salsa for an appetizer and halibut with a beure blanc (spelling?) sauce and garden vegetables for the main course. Truly the best I've ever had!!! I would have been thrilled to have it at a very high-end restaurant. But we ate in our sunroom (too cool to be outside). DH wasn't sure what it was all about most of the time, but he enjoyed it and did seem to remember at least some of the people in our wedding pictures. A couple of pictures below.
There was some talk about excellent retired people. I just realized that I'll have to redefine that again after DH moves, as I ended up working round-the-clock as a personal care attendant the last couple of years.
Today, DH is at daycare and I'm going to try to do some personal care for me (after I food shop). I don't know what but something...
Have a terrific Tuesday!

Oh, Liz! That food, your table and the room are so beautiful! What a lovely, lovely anniversary gift from your son.
And yes ... "how to be retire successfully" ... big subject!
I hope you have an excellent self-care day. My plan for tomorrow is to get a massage. I haven't had one in years, and have no idea how that dropped off my to-do list!

Good afternoon ! I read through Psychology Today reviews of local therapists and found one who totally resonated with me. Her bio checked all my boxes, but in bold red letters "Not taking new clients". I emailed her and told her we had done graduate work at the same college and that she was exactly what I need. She emailed back and said the was looking forward to working with me. We'll be in Old Orchard Beach Maine with SS and the dogs, the first two weeks in September, so we're scheduling something after that. It never hurts to try ! So looking forward to this !!

Lots of forward motion here, through bittersweet anniversary dates, to reflecting on what's next, to some concrete plans for tackling issues.
August was a month for matrimony. We got married August 29th. It was a beautiful sunny day, not too hot. It was actually a little coolish the next day when we had our present opening. Is that a thing in other parts of the country?
Well, back from the trenchs of public education. Today we had some extensive training around the topic of Social Emotional Learning. Long story short, students need a sense of belonging, and relationships with adults at school. Competent, committed teachers already know this, but I think it's worthwhile to discuss building these relationships with intention. We have many sayings in special ed, one of them, is the student you least want to be with is the one who needs you the most. I've found that if you can build a relationship of trust and respect with "the least" student, the pay off is tremendous.
The student you least want to be with is the one who needs you the most....
Amen to that! I have two girls this year that fit into that category. Every day I remind myself to find the good within those two girls. Slowly, surely, the subtle extra attention they get is beginning to pay off. It'll take a good six weeks to get the relationship in place, but once there, we'll be able to start the real work. Needless to say, I will do a lot of counting to 10 this year! LOL!
