The weekend has arrived. Though we are retired, I still have to be cognizant of increased traffic, more difficulty getting into restaurants and beaches, but a plus of more outdoor music performances.

We did go to the local winery and listened to music last night. The wine is not great (Cape Cod really doesn't have a great climate for grape growing), but we split a nice lobster roll (lobster only for me) and listened to some fun music in a beautiful setting with friends. It turns out that the female singer was someone we knew growing up. She and youngest DD were in school together in the earliest years and played soccer together. How cool to see her again! And btw, for her day job she does private caregiving for dementia patients. The other interesting occurrence is that we met a Boston Bruins player who was sitting at the table next to us with his parents. What a nice, unassuming young man! As you may recall, the Bruins are DD's favorite team. Picture below. So it was a good thing we ended up going out.

Tonight we are going to the beginning of a Cape Cod Baseball League team here in town. According to Wikipedia, the league is "one of the nation's premier collegiate summer leagues, receiving significant financial support from Major League Baseball". Friends from our former town are going to be there as their son coaches one of the teams. Hopefully DH will remember them.

What a nice evening! Glad it came to fruition. I hear you on the weekend thing, when I was a stay at home Mom, I had the luxury of going to the zoo, beach, children's museum etc during the week. If I ended up in those locations on a weekend, I'd be thinking, where did all these people come from?

Today is my 58th birthday. We are going to the beach for a bit, then we are meeting some friends for drinks and dinner at a over the top tiki bar (finally a place to wear my pink flamingo blouse), and then fireworks for a summer festival in Minneapolis called The Acquatennial. Tomorrow we are meeting some other friends for brunch, that weren't able to join us tonight. Most of the time, DH and whatever kid is at home go out to dinner. After so much upheaval this year, I decided I wanted to up the celebration a bit. Looking forward to the weekend.

Sounds like you had a nice day of celebration and feeling special with friends and family. I for one, think birthdays should be regarded as personal holidays. I love them! Always have and always will!
