DSD arrived around 2:30 yesterday - the pre-weekend/pre July 4th week traffic to Cape Cod caused more than an hour delay for her bus. Then DH was an hour later than usual coming home from daycare due to Cape traffic as well. But he was in good spirits because he likes the people on the bus. I got him showered (he was a little ripe) and we made our 5:30 reservation and had a wonderful meal on the deck of the restaurant right next to the water. The lighting was a little funky but below is a picture of DH and DSD.
SIL didn't make it because she isn't feeling well - possible pneumonosis and intestinal issues from the medications. I'm taking her to the oncologist Monday. She ended up spending all day at the hospital Wednesday after her PCP realized that something more than just an irritating cough was going on. She never even made it to the cardiologist. They did a CT scan and on Monday they want to evaluate exactly what is going on and where to go. There is some hint that they are worried about cancer spread.
But today, we visit with DSD! I was going to go to a country club as guests of a friend to see him play in a group, but I think I'm going to pass and stay with DSD and DH. Possibly DS will get out of work early and can cook for us, which will be way more relaxing.
Have a super Saturday!

Yesterday evening, dh and I went to a concert in one of the many beautiful parks in Minneapolis. This was at Minnehaha Park, featuring the waterfall of the same name. The band was awesome, leading my husband and I to speculate, what is the magic ingredient that catapults some singers into national fame, while others continue singing at small venues?
After the concert, we went to a restaurant on the banks of the Mississippi river, with a view of the Minneapolis skyline. Gorgeous summer night.
Today I'm going to be lazy, and read on the porch. Tomorrow, if the storms hold off until afternoon, were going to one of the lake beaches in Minneapolis in the morning, before the crowds arrive.
My extended family is meeting up north on what I jokingly refer to as the family compound, for 4th of July. It's 80 acres of what was part of my grandparents farm, lots of pines, and a few meadows. My Dad built one a frame cabin, and there are several travel trailers, so we do have amenities like flush toilets and hot showers. Dh has to work the weekend, but had the 4th and 5th off. I'm leaning towards staying home. We'll see.
Today's quote:
Tell the truth. Sing with passion. Work with laughter. Love with heart. Cause that's all that matters in the end. ~ Kris Kristofferson
Liz-your day sounds lovely. So glad DH was in good spirits!
DD-your whole weekend sounds delightful.
I'll post again here
Weight: 172.8 Surprised it's gone down after last night's rich dinner!
Daycare frustrations drove me to eating. They are trying to substitute their opinions for that of a trained physician. Not good. Involved me toting two kids into a doctors office TWICE yesterday. I think I'll be quitting daycare soon anyhow. I love a lot of aspects of it, but the fact that my child is constantly sick is sad and difficult to work anyhow!
Dinner was delicious--steak, lobster, potatoes. And the show was FAB-U-LOUS!! I love Singing in the Rain and I splurged on tickets that were undoubtedly turned back in because they were 3rd row. Omg so worth it. Tap dancing was able to melt away any of the day's frustrations!
Becca is still feeling a little crummy so not sure if we'll need to change weekend plans or not. And of course now I'm second guessing my pediatrician, which makes me sad.
We are supposed to go to a "4th of July" barbecue tonight. If we go, and depending on how much I"m able to accomplish, I was planning on taking cherry brown butter bars and a zesty bean and corn salad.
Today and/or tomorrow I'd like to do some swimming! I'm sure hotdogs will be grilled. Moderation! Possibly partake in some of the 4th of July festivities in our community that start early.
The art museum is showing a new documentary about Woodstock. I'd really like to go but babysitters can be hard to come by!

Great picture Liz! Spending time with family is so important. The older I get the more important it seems. Probably as I realize I won't have them forever.
After a rainy morning yesterday it was gorgeous in the afternoon and evening. This morning was too until a huge fog bank rolled in and the temperature dropped 15 degrees. Hopefully it clears soon. The byproduct of warm air sitting over cold Great Lakes water.
I made it to the grocery store this morning to buy dinner stuff for tonight. A family friend is coming to stay for a week or so (you never quite know when she'll blow in or out). After ribs and leftover ribs the last two nights, we're having a big salad with grilled shrimp to detox!
Fergus feels better by the day. Appetite is back, no more vomiting. Toots are now lethal. The prescription food I imagine. Here he is, begging for my lunch. Somehow I vastly prefer begging to his laying in the corner not reacting to the presence of food. It's more natural!
I'm going to plant beets today. I thought they were a spring or fall planting thing so I never have as I'm not here, but a great Michigan gardener I follow on YouTube just planted a bunch yesterday, so I will too. I'm an excellent follower.
David, love your garden and Adalyn pictures and her stories are the best!
BB, the daycare / ear infection thing sounds really frustrating...
DD, your concert evening sounds like a perfect summer night!
Great to see the Ferg feeling better!

Greetings Maintenance Partiers
Well maintenance ain't no party but neither is life. Things are kind of tough as my brother is declining and now his wife had to have a second hip surgery as the first one failed. She must now put no weight on it for a month. She is MO and has had heart problems and I so worry that a month in bed is an invitation to pneumonia or PE. My poor niece, their only remaining child, was crying and has so much on her shoulders. Hopefully SIL can go to the same care rehab center as brother. Thankfully, we have my mom's former nurse, who is now considered family, to help communicate and check up on medical stuff. Oy vey. And to boot our super sensitive house painter is having a cow about some of the new lumber leaking sap through the stain. Priorities please.
Enough *****ing. Liz glad you are getting some good family stuff in. To look at pictures of your DH its hard to believe he is ill. Glad the bus rides are fun for him.
And yay for Fergie. Good Boy.
BB day care must be an endless series of issues. It really does take a village. I admire you for having the energy to handle two little ones plus manage to go to fun events. The show looks great.
DD I remember times in Minnesota in the summer. We had some cousins who lived near a lake - I think lake Minniwashta? It was always fun. Nothing like Minnesota lakes. I used to go to camp at lake Hubert as did my younger brother.
Endless errands to run. Dog needs a genetic test (SLEMS) as a precursor to eventually being bred. Shakey puppy syndrome that exists in some lines of border terriers. I am pretty sure she will test fine.
Its a sunny nice day which is good on the mood. Makes my list seem less daunting.
Take care all. Peace and such. Diane S
Good Morning All,
Up at the farm, Sunday already. Had a busy day yesterday, shopping for supplies, cooking for SIL, then rest of family came for late afternoon tea-amidst a huge rain storm. Other SIL stayed for dinner- made whole baked snapper stuffed with leeks, dill, capers & olives, super grains & salad
