Yesterday, I got a LOT of mowing done! That's a long time to be on a mower (two sessions).

Last night I got some very good news. My niece, who'll be a college junior this fall, came over to share that she is finally disentangling herself from a longtime boyfriend (since high school) who has been a terrible drain on her energies. He's not an asshole, but he's definitely a world-class deadbeat! She is a very smart, kind young woman who does not want to hurt him, but she's been working hard to differentiate between her own inclination to be kind and the need to care for herself. Now she's finally putting her own needs first. I'm so proud of her. Adulting is complicated and hard whether you're 20 or 45 or 75.

This morning I'm thinking of each of you and hoping you find ways today to adult AND to play.

Tickled to have my metrics resonate with others ! I got the initial idea from Ann, and tweak continually (often based on input from this group), to make it work for me. Taking inventory and setting intentions really focuses my day.

So in gale winds and hard frost followed by rain predictions yesterday ( and AFTER SS was mostly packed) DC started in with.. "Well, we can take the wood out, because it will be too windy for a campfire. We won't have to put the outside rug and chairs out, because it will be too wet. The outside kitchen doesn't need to be set up because it will be too windy and wet." I said, "WTF... why bother ? I'd rather stay home and mow on the only sunny day this week." I mowed the front AND back, and not only earned over 16,000 steps, but had a BALL being outside doing something I love. How many times do we invest time, going through the motions, just because we are expected to ? I believe that thought process lead to lots of disordered eating for me. Life is too short. There isn't time for do overs. Doing what feels right, feels good !

Yea, DianeO, for NOT going glamping. Yes ... momentum can propel us into some unpleasant places. Glad you turned that around. :)

You Mowers, you!

I am terrible at song lyrics, I blame this on the lack of internet in my youth so it wasn't easy to look them up. I am not entirely sure I knew that he was saying "Put Me In" (since that sounds kind of odd) and definitely didn't know "Coach". I am an imprecise speaker, too, so this didn't bother me.

Shirl! What wonderful pictures!!!! The happiness of your friendship just jumps off the screen!

Party prep continues! Much going on! Hopefully I will nail down cupcake order today (including stand) and pick up drinks at Costco.

Ann, DD will technically enter college as a junior but we are entirely prepared for her to be at University for the full 4 years (or so) before she has a BS (or whatever) Anyhoo, what field of study is your niece leaning toward?

I think you all have good taste and can even appreciate Ann's appreciation of the whimsy of the Pelican/rocks. I might, too, if it was in someone else's back yard ;) Also, the RESIN chafes my azz.

BB, I think you were on to something about trying to incorporate some Pacific Northwest into the cupcake stand. DD's University is known as The Crunchy-Granola University --- and that is saying something since this whole area is crunchy granola. (DianeS, your area is 100% CG, I don't know how it could possibly increase its CG score.)

Today I will enjoy music while sweeping. I simply do not mow. I can not take that pleasure away from DH although I think his favorite is weed whacking

Shel, my niece is studying psychology -- wants to be a therapist. And her interest in that field really has helped her work through this situation. Of course, it didn't stop her from getting involved with him five years ago when they were in high school.

Boy, it's hard to end relationships, no matter how toxic they are.

BTW, is your daughter going to Western Washington U.?

When you said crunchy granola, that's where I figured she was going. :) I lived on the West Coast for 20 years. ;)

Greetings Buddies

156.5 today. Dinner last night was the remaining halibut plus a big tomato. And a blob of mayonnaise. Will seek more sweet corn today. I bought a Quest high protein low carb frozen pizza at Target yesterday. Will report.

Ann and Diane, I salute you for your mowing skills. Gotta admit I hate it - hate mower and machine noises. I would rather hear the birds. DH is going to take a load of yard waste over today since we have had bags of it around and had to cut back the hydrangeas so the deck can be painted. Calla lilies also have to be moved. They grow like weeds around here in ditches and such. They still seem exotic to me.

Yeah Shel, we live in ground zero for crunchy granola. I find it fun and the social pressure to live green is a good thing. Your daughter will get good habits at crunchy college if she doesn't already have them. Enjoy the party - sounds like its gonna rock! Cupcake-palloooza.

Shirley glad you had such a fun trip. Now I want to go there.

Scrabble today, studio time and house work. Why is house work never finished? Sort of like mowing.

Good Morning or should I say Croak - sore throat started yesterday and is getting worse - Lots of people coughing on the plane and it looks like Ive picked up a bug UGGGGG - Rough nights sleep. Have brought the scales but not unpacked yet as had to set up my office here at the farm. Arrived after dark last night and snuggled down. It was -1 degrees this morning when I woke (hello frost) but we have a high of around 57 promised for today. Jus****ched a stunning sunrise - I am home :)

My SIL had a very bad fall and finally went to hospital yesterday late afternoon to get checked out. XRAYS show nothing broken but she is in a lot of pain. We are all rallying around to help with meals etc. I stopped on the way up to grab some things. Will make a huge shepherds pie for their dinner tommorrow night. DH is catching the train up after work tonight - so will collect him at the station just before 10pm. My other SIL and I will go and do some cleaning and washing to help out this afternoon at other SIL's - she will protest but many hands make light work. Thats my day.... Oh and I did notice that the electric tape fence has been remodelled by the cows/calves. Battery must have gone flat on the Ute thats keeping it charged - so once its warm enough I will be out fixing that. Cheeky things

Ann - I am glad your niece has found the strength to make herself a priority. Leaving a toxic relationship after a longer period of time is super hard. Well done on all that mowing - I will be on the slasher this week after work as the grass has grown so much in 2 weeks since I was here. Love a freshly mowed grass area - looks so neat and tidy.

Diane - Well done to you also on the mowing. Im lazy I either sit on ride on or tractor n slasher for ours. Way too much to do by hand

Shel - Sounds like everything is going well in party preparations. You still amaze me and Im sure you DD will appreciate it all lots. Thank you for your lovely words re my trip with my Best Friend. We have shared a lot over our 30+ years. The good, the bad and the ugly. Im so thankful we could do this together. Who knows maybe one day we can again. Something to aim for :)

Diane S - Enjoy Scrabble and your Studio Time today - hopefully the housework part goes quick. Did you see the friend request I sent you on facebook? - If not I can download and PM them to you. My friend took all the pottery & kiln pics and posted - I am tagged so you should be able to see. It was an amazing trip and I would recommend. DH & I are aiming for Vietnam and Cambodia next year. Fingers crossed I can save enough after our trip to the States. Need the Aussie $ to lift a little before I come to the States in September

How do professional gardeners and farmers do it?? I'm so tired and in pain (hands and back) and I only worked for 5 hours! I'm done with all the raised veggie beds (weeded and purchased plants planted, but seeds still need to go in). But the pathways still need a lot of weeding. When it was built, the contractor put down weed fabric which was a big mistake. The weeds still grow through it, but now are much harder to pull. And when weeds do budge and don't break at the stem, it pulls up the fabric and the mulch on top making a big mess. Grrrrr. One day when my left hand works again I may just go at it with a utility knife and get rid of it all. Until then, though, I have more planting to do.

One bed has made it two nights with no deer destruction! Here's a pic... 24 1 gallon+ plants...

Ferg is having a marvelous time, laying on the deck and watching the world go by.

My eating has been good and I'm down 3 pounds with many, many more to go.
