I'm never quite sure how to greet folks on holidays like this one. "Have a peaceful Memorial Day"? That's certainly what I wish for us all--a peaceful day.
Unfortunately, I woke up at 12:36 am and couldn't get back to sleep. I think the lure of DianeS's favorite vegetable, coffee, was too strong. I'm definitely having a leisurely morning. :)
Summer has arrived--today will be sunny in the mid-eighties. The mowing is done! This morning I'll go on a long walk around a lake with some yoga friends and do at least three weeks' worth of laundry.
This is an big anniversary for me. Memorial weekend 23 years ago my husband and I met each other. What a glorious time that was! True love never dies.
Today's theme: Peace!

I love all of your FB posts/picts... Diane's puppies, Lesa's gardens, Liz's pond and Justice, Shirl's adventure, Shel's climbs, Cecily's darling Ferg (although I hoped to see the wand in action) BB and her adorable family, Dave and his lawn partner, Peps and his chariot. Ann, I really want another porch picture and one of what you see when you're walking the fence line. Miss Bonnie, I'd love to see that asparagus bed ! It makes me so happy to picture each of you in your environments.
Living with a combat Vet, I am reminded of and grateful for their service every day, but especially today ! We'll work more in the yard this morning, then enjoy it later. I've grown my hair out to just above my shoulders and always wear it clipped back and up. I'm getting my summer cut / color Wednesday. I look at it as annually giving my stylist a clean slate to start from. I'm leaning toward something asymmetrical, and if I can make it beyond the first week without feeling totally unbalanced...My youngest DD is recharging in Portugal, and we've been chatting during my morning OH posting time, and I just haven't gotten back to it. She heads home Wednesday.
Peps, I didn't mention the photo of your MIL up above, because it is so powerful and unique. I think we have all been moved and inspired by her exit plan. Hope closure is moving forward. DD, I hope you and DH are finding peace, too.

Weight 135, calories 1208. Back up, but as mentioned previously I'm happy it isn't broaching 140. AND I am back to tracking and weighing and not binging on pastries. Plus I didn't avoid my PCP appointment and plan on going to my 3 year Bariatric appointment this week. In the past I would cancel appointments over weight gain.
The weather is beautiful right now and should be generally good for the day. It may not be warm enough for a bathing suit at the beach but maybe I'll bring lunch, a book, and wear shorts. We have a cookout to attend at 4:30. We are assigned an appetizer so I'm thinking a vegetable plate pre-made from the store.
I just realized that my windows need washing badly. Hmmm...do I do it myself or hire someone?
On Memorial Day, I remember the handsome son of friends from our former town who died in Afghanistan. There was a lot of pomp around his funeral, but his parents were grieving as we did when we lost eldest DD a few years prior. Here is a little bit about David: https://www.brodeurfoundation.com/about-dave
Have a memorable Monday!

Liz, so proud of you for not postponing your doctor's appointments. I hope I would have done the same thing, but not positive I'd have done the right thing.
Also ... that link you posted about David isn't working for me. Do you have another one?

You have just reminded me to hire someone to wash my windows! (So, you know where I stand on the issue!)

I used to play in the Memorial Day band as a highschooler. We would drive around to the many small Iowa cemeteries to participate in the local services. My parents will spend the day visiting departed loved ones. My husband has no Memorial Day tradition.
I hike, then back to house to clean. I'm hoping DD will be available after work for so we can visit MIL and FIL.
Liz, going to your appt's is perfect....you ARE doing well tho you aren't were you want to be.
David, so GLAD to see your mug on the board! You belong here! Have fun with you new saw! And bees! And the wee little ones! (Such cuties!)
Hugs to all,
She

Happy Memorial Day friends.
I have always loved Memorial Day. Of course it is the unofficial beginning of summertime. But I love that we remember to be patriotic again and my parents always took us to visit the gravesites. The look of the cemetery decorated with flags is so overwhelming. I'm glad my parents created this memory for us. I'm afraid most of my contemporaries, and especially their children, will not even know that Memorial Day was more than just for drinking beer or going to the lake. My parents also had a tradition of watching a war movie. One of the most memorable Memorial Days was when the church service had bagpipes. Wow. This year will be a bit more low key. I'd like for DH to smoke some ribs. And I recorded the PBS Memorial Day special and hope to watch tonight.
Yesterday was also an important day as it was my NINTH surgiversary! I'm definitely at my highest surgiversary weight, around 181. And I'll admit I'm surprisingly disappointed. But geez it was just 5 days since having a baby. I didn't weigh this early first pregnancy so I don't know how quickly I dropped the weight. But I only lost about 10lbs. since having a 6lb. baby soooo. But I'm also very excited to begin evaluating my goals for a 10th surgiversary. I do want them to be lofty, since it's 10th year and at 32 I guess I figure this is going to be my best chance to reach those--metabolism wise at least haha! But I also know I will at least need to be realistic about the work it will take and how to cut it down into pieces so as to make it manageable. I've mentioned here before that I always reeeeally wanted to be "half myself" Which would mean 138.5. Which I don't know if that's even doable or attractive. But that would be my ideal, somewhat arbitrary, number.
In case you're not on facebook, I posted this yesterday. Trying to stay in the moment. And thinking Ann would be proud! But if I start thinking too much, I get overwhelmed wondering if baby is going to wake up right when Becca is throwing a fit, etc. Becca is doing much better with Charlie but idk if Becca is acting out or just getting more curious and mobile. But DH was gone to help his kids move yesterday and I did find it a bit exhausting to continually keep Becca in the living room, hands were in toilet at one point, and she was trying to escape out the doggie door toward the pool while I was wearing Charlie so I wondered what I would've done: jump in the pool with Charlotte attached? Whew! Must try not to think too far ahead! And instead try to focus on my beautiful patriotic babies and how well this is going considering! My parents had us over for a brisket, slaw, grilled corn, frui****ermelon. My aunt who just moved back here seemed THRILLED that this is the first family member she will get to be here from beginning to end! My other aunt and uncle were there. My grandmother. My parents friends that feel like aunts and uncles. This is life. And it's good :)
