I was so excited to follow Shel's dot....to REI !! Fun practice run ! Man, has that lady done a lot of hiking !!! Her map would make a great wall hanging !!! Paula, so wonderful to hear from you !! Looking forward to your return !! Cecily, I'd have to say I agree with DD. Where will Ferg's quality of life be the best ? It sounds like you have a sound plan for getting him there. Liz, hope you and Paul are home safely. I'm assuming your daughter's Red Sox post was not a picture from yesterday. Diane, hope the hands continue to improve. You can never have too many first aid supplies ! Ann, I can't imagine anyone holding a grudge long ! You looked radiant and so proud in the picture with your niece ! So much love !!! Peps, your summer will be so busy in a non-puppy frenzy way ! Travel away ! Get that passport...Vancouver ? Shirl..wondering how you are.

Raised beds look a bit sparse with baby plants, but they will fill in !! Neighbor has a bunch of trash (lumber, old pool ladder, cinder blocks etc.) behind their shed, where we often face on our deck. I took one of our old pallets, from pellet delivery, and did a blue line American flag motif, to lean against the fence and block the view. I'll take a picture today. Yesterday, we traveled the upper level roads around the east side of the lake and visited a friend's hippy farm. She roasts and grinds coffee, makes cheese, sells fresh eggs and honey as well as dried mushrooms and fresh herbs. We came home with fresh eggs, chanterelle mushrooms, a ricotta blend, spring onions and a fresh coffee blend. I made omelets for breakfast...to die for !!

I love how green (and tidy!) your yard is!

No time to read, but we are here on Cape Cod. From hot summer weather to spring in less than half a day! It is 65 here and all the trees have new leaves. Birds are chirping and it is really quite beautiful. I forget how green it can be!

Yesterday was a challenge with DH, but Justice was unbelievably calm (Other when the plane ascended and descended during which he panted like crazy). DH didn't understand what to do in the security line so they had to pat him down which he also didn't understand (but allowed). The plane had a 45 minute delay half of which involved no air conditioning sitting out in the hot sun. It was at least 90 with no air moving. They were passing out paper towels to wipe sweat and cups of water. DH struggled with that and at a bunch of other points in the trip. The woman next to me gave him a whole bottle of water during the sauna which helped him a lot, then I gave him snacks and drinks throughout the flight. I'd say that at most there will be one more flight for him and only if I decide to put him in Florida memory care.

Today I am taking SIL to Boston for more tests and to see the oncologist and won't be bac****il late. DS is taking care of DH. Though it isn't the most fun day ever planned, it will be great to be with SIL and not to have to deal with DH. DH starts daycare here tomorrow.

I'm going out to try starting my car shortly (it has been on a trickle charger since January). Wish me luck!

Have a marvelous Monday!

Liz, welcome home. But wow! What a busy first day you've got! I sure hope your car started.

DianeO - your raised beds are REALLY "raised beds." And they're gorgeous! Around here "raised beds" are on the ground, formed by old railroad ties, only about a foot deep, and surrounded by chicken wire to keep the deer from eating up all the plants and produce.

Movie review: What was The Times movie reviewer thinking?! Don't bother with "The Hustle." It's a weak remake of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." Rebel Wilson does the only schtick she knows ... and by now it's so boring. Anne Hathaway is completely wasted in this flick. It was so predictable that twice I almost fell asleep.

Then there was the movie popcorn ... only 4 cups, but enough to bump the scales back up this morning. New beginnings, indeed!

I was tired again yesterday. I've felt that way several times these last few weeks. I wonder if the eye surgery and the sedative (Versed) they gave me (that didn't sedate me at all) has anything to do with this?

Good news is that I slept like a log last night. Eight hours of sleep! Why? 'Cause I took a second Tylenol PM. I don't care ... I really needed it.

All of which reminds me that my water intake is sucking again. Will refocus on that this week.

Today's theme is another (and better!) version of ... It's a new day! Listen to Alicia Keys here.

Good morning!

Ann, enjoying listened to you music suggestions as I post...I feel like we are all enjoying DianeO's fabulous yard together. Plus, just realized I don't have any Alicia on my hiking playlists. This one in particular is fabulous.

DianeO, you know how to pull together beauty. You will have to take a pic later in garden season.

Liz, I was thinking about you yesterday....I'm glad the trip is over and you can spend time with SIL today. I know she will find comfort in your mere presence. Being present is a powerful gift.

Got to run, few things to pull together for my pack, including my blister kit. I'm posting my base supplies below. Cecily, I sort of like rock tape to prevent problems in my common hot spots. And zen toes are lovely if a toe is having trouble. Best wishes for Fergus. You are a good mom.

About the need to adjust when there is trouble and you can FEEL the trouble --- carrying weight in the pack up and down steep grades has made me more prone to blisters. I can frequently feel the trouble begin to brew and know I should adjust my laces....but, do I? OMG, so frequently I put it off with a wishful thought of "it will be all right, I'm almost there" and at the end of the hike find that I no longer have skin on the tip of a big toe. Why do I have to experience this over and over! On Mt St Helens (fingers crossed) my mantra will be "feel, trust your feelings, and adjust your laces!"

Don't why pic is upside down today and except I'm feeling a bit that way. My daughter used to declare it is "Opposite Day!" Wistful sigh as she graduates and prepares to take on the world. Take care, Shel

I wrap my left "ring toe" with Rock Tape to keep it from getting walked on by my middle toe and forming pinch blisters. I haven't heard of Zen Toes - I need to check that out as my toes are decidedly not zen!

Shel, Zentoes are new to me, too. Checked out all their offerings online this morning.

193.2 I think

Liz-so glad to hear that you made it okay yesterday. At least that's behind you now!

Diane O.-Your hippy food sounds amazing ;)

Shel-when is your hike? Looks like things are gearing up!!

Ann-movie popcorn is one of life's greatest delights. My dad was huge into movies and that's something my husband and I share!! There isn't quite anything else like a super cold movie theater, the buzz of people, the smell of popcorn, the taste of coke! HOpe you enjoyed!

What a (nother) busy weekend! DH and I took advantage of Friday night to have a date night out by the lake with live music. Maybe our last for awhile? Saturday was a nasty rainy day. Stepkids were to paint their duplex (and get paid! Not a bad deal!)...and then balked. So was a little disappointed. Next, we were giving DH's sister one of our guest room sets (that is now a nursery!) and she did it her way rather than taking DH's advice and sure enough her movers didn't show up and she already had the moving van and had already sold her current set. So we last minute had to find whoever we could. And that was apparently the three stooges. Sometimes you have to laugh. But it wasn't funny when half the movers were 20 years older than DH so he ended up doing the bulk of the moving, one of the older gentlemen fell down our stairs and DH had to tell him he couldn't do any more moving, and one of the others was on the phone with his parole officer the entire time. Yeah. But we did get it moved and ultimately I think SIL is happy. Sunday was a beautiful day and we took advantage by planting our pots in the backyard, trying to get the pool up and running, and dusting off the porch and furniture! I'll have to post pictures.

...Just in time for bad weather again. Tornado and flooding threat today. Of course I hate that our poor little plants will probably get battered. I really pray for everyone's safety. Having grown up in Oklahoma, I feel like I have an amount of respect, awe, and fear in weather days like today. Many schools have actually closed in anticipation of the upcoming weather. That may sound crazy to others, and that was my first reaction. But the models are predicting perfect conditions for many tornados. In addition, this is the anniversary date of a 2013 tornado that killed 7 third graders. Also, the threat looks to be severe around 2-5pm, right when busses would be on the roads. So scary. I hope everyone is safe.
