I do not know why my two lost pounds are back, but I know that eventually they'll depart again.

Yesterday's NOLA program went off well. And I did not eat dessert - only drank a cup of black coffee. The whole afternoon felt very 1958.

Today's treats are a pedicure and paraffin treatment for my hands.

The next few days temps here will be sunny and in the mid-80s. Other news here is that tomorrow I can start mowing again!

My good friend, whose invitation I declined to join her for two weeks in Florence, Italy, is now sending me pix of everything I'm missing. Sigh! To console myself I'm mentally calculating all the pasta, risotto and gelato I am not consuming. I made the right decision not to go, but we've agreed to travel there together next spring.

Finally, on the phooey on fear and confidence front, which many of us chimed in on yesterday, here is today's theme and morning tune:

Today's theme: I have confidence! Listen here.

I put your BC dates on my calendar....I don't always get my own events on my calendar so you KNOW I am going to get up there at some point.

We need Ann to chime in since she had an extended stay on in Vancouver and (more importantly) walked regularly, enjoying water and views. Where, Ann, where?

I have only been to Vancouver 2-3 times (sad to say) and twice it was a quick trip (not overnight) and the other time with two teenagers. We stayed in a hip hotel downtown.

You have a deliciously long time there! Public transportation is great. You can get anywhere you want to go on bus or train (whatever they call it....monorail?)

If it were me, I would try to stay somewhere in the Stanley Park area...I haven't explored that park yet and would dearly love to! I believe that general area has loads of water walks available and Stanley Park is large and would have a lot of interior walks available too. So much to explore!

Again, we need Ann.....but that general area has a lot of hotels/shops that are close to the water, too, making for a nice touristy vibe. Upscale stores, too, including a Hermes.

Speaking of which, I wish the entire group could experience Ann browsing Hermes! All of you close your eyes and and imagine.

Anyway, you can see from the map how much water (and views) that broader area can offer. But, again, BC itself is nice....maybe you stay in a neighborhood that is a great neighborhood to walk but easy transportation to everything else? I wish I had more time to shop airbnb with you.....I read ALL the comments looking for clues and love the hunt.

This post is a whole lot of excitement for your trip....but very little content - sorry!

Happy browsing!

YES on the recommendation to stay near Stanley Park. It's a walkers' paradise on the harbor with monster trees, gardens, an aquarium, and great trails everywhere.

While traveling on business and during hell-in-August-get-me-out-of-here vacations to Vancouver, we have stayed multiple times at the plush Fairmont Harbor hotel. But although Vancouver is not the cheapest city in Canada to visit, you can find lovely digs there for a lot less money.

It's such a great walking town. Lots of uphill and down, which we all like.

There are a brazillion "what to do in Vancouver" sites, but this is a good one to get started with: https://www.tourismvancouver.com/activities/free-almost-free /25-free-things-to-do/

I feel better today after having cried and gone to bed early last night.

I got up a little early this morning and threw out the items in the fridge which we won't use before our departure so they go out with the trash this morning. Hopefully there will only be one small bag to leave with someone when we depart Sunday. I got rid of the TV boxes yesterday leaving WiFi only which will be my go-forward configuration here in Florida and likely in Massachusetts when I get home. I also dropped off some household hazardous waste so it wouldn't be here over the summer.

Today I will finish covering the chairs (all cutting and pinning done so only the sewing remains for two chairs - two done). That was my last project which I needed to keep my mind busy. Today I will also start to bring the excess porch stuff into the garage and will start packing the second box for shipping so I can drop them off on Friday.

Tomorrow I may do one last beach trip while DH is at daycare, because Friday and Saturday will be busy getting ready for departure. I'm dreading hearing the more specific news about SIL tomorrow so I need to do something somewhat mindless while I wait for it.

"If Not Now, When?" That certainly resonates with me based on recent events. I need to do something about DH soon because I can't deal with it much longer. Hopefully my financial advisor can help me figure out a solution which won't bankrupt me.

Have a winning Wednesday!

Lots of hugs. Lots and Lots! I would also feel strongly that DH needs to see SIL and SIL needs to see DH. So I understand wanting to get DH home. (The more pragmatic side sees how DH staying in Florida is also more than reasonable)

Once, I took MIL (in memory care focused adult family home) to visit FIL (in nursing home). They were within 3 miles of each other but the production felt like an around the world trip. They enjoyed each other's company for 20 minutes and then it was done. That 20 minutes was happiness packed for all of us.

OF course, that situation wasn't the same as what you are facing in the coming days/weeks/months. By the way, we had 3 of us helping MIL travel 3 miles. I don't know how you do what you do!

More hugs!

Liz, I so feel for you! And I'm hugging you through the ether.

You ARE going to get through this.

But these times test us hard.

Is there anyone who could fly down to help you get home? It seems so overwhelming for you to manage this journey on your own.
