I slept in a separate room from DH for the second night as I plan to once we get home. The sky didn't fall in. As far as I can tell he followed his usual behavior patterns and was sleeping when I got up yesterday and today. Today is adult daycare and I have a party with my friends this afternoon.

I received confirmation yesterday that DH will start adult daycare on May 21. Hopefully the transition to Cape Cod and to a new daycare will not be too difficult for him. I may wait until we get home to tell him what is going on with his sister so he can see her at that point.

I visited the final memory care unit I had on my list yesterday. Nice, expensive and they have "sales associates" who make deals, which turned me off. The price is $5700 a month but if I put DH in by the end of next month I can get a "special deal" of $5000 a month for the first year. The people were very nice, but there weren't really any very functional residents and in fact quite a few are bedridden and on hospice. Right now I prefer the least expensive place I visited because I liked the layout, the people and the activities. It is a new facility (one year) designed by a neurologist who specialized in dementia and that understanding shows. I might look at another one here if I can find a less expensive place worth visiting. I know some of the trappings are for the family but I do have to pick a place that our children and family will feel comfortable with.

Nothing much else going on. Have a thoughtful Tuesday!

Liz, I agree with your decision criteria re the memory care centers you've visited thus far. Information is so important, especially primary information we collect ourselves.

It rained yesterday, so no mowing happened. And it rained again last night a LOT, so no mowing today either. Looks like the landsman gets to mow this weekend.

Last night was a bit of a bust. I decided NOT to take a Tylenol PM, but it was the wrong night to try that. I wound up not getting to sleep until midnight, and before that the evening turned in a protein-hunger direction. Re-enter the tuna fish salad. At least I'm not eating ice cream or grilled cheese sandwiches, eh? Still, my body can't possibly be in need of that much protein! And then I slept until only 2 a.m. when I was awakened by loud thunderstorms and lightning and heavy rain, which kept me listening for even worse weather. So I started drinking coffee very early while I watched at movie. At 4 a.m. I said, screw it - I'll just keep drinking coffee and not weigh today.

Rationalizations are quite powerful, aren't they?

BTW, during my protein craze last night I found a couple of pounds of walnuts, pecans, and almonds I'd missed when cleaning the kitchen cabinets a month ago--and NOT the kinds of trigger foods I need around me right now. I also discovered some sugar cinnamon hard candies from God knows how long ago in some holiday gift basket we received. So I did something I am always preaching, but sometimes have trouble doing: I threw all of that in the tra****'s funny that when I put food into the trash, even without smearing coffee grounds all over it, it enters a parallel universe from whence I cannot retrieve it.

My goal today is simple: Be careful and mindful (as much as I can with so little sleep), take it easy, and don't hurt myself. That's how I'll earn today's A in Self Care. :)

Today's theme: Listen to my body and be very kind to it.

Greetings Astute People

157 today. So it goes. Probably because I didn't get a dog walk in.

Made the scotch eggs last night. One is a meal. I short cut the recipe and wrapped the eggs in ground pork and then rolled in panko without first rolling in beaten egg. Used my pottery skills to pinch the ground meat into a little cup and stuffed in the egg. I used less meat than some recipes call for. Baked, not fried. The panko is the most indulgent part but its not much per egg. DH liked it.Probably could be made with turkey sausage. I need to figure out how to reheat them tonight since a microwaved hard boiled egg might explode.

Liz sounds like you are making sound decisions for your DH. And good that you get a good nights sleep. I sometimes go sleep in the guest room so I can watch some late tv (or eat crunchy peanuts which wakes up DH). Yep go with your gut on selecting a place for your DH.

Ann I used to love night thunderstorms when I was a kid. Now I don't blame you for listening for danger. Being a grown up I guess.

Scrabble today. Overcast outside which means inside by the fire. Yay.

DH has an appointment with a retina specialist tomorrow. Comes in from out of town every couple of months. Hope we get some answers to his vision issues. I am hoping for a new prescription for him.

Well time to get moving. Dare I say I have had enough coffee?!

Teacher appreciation week here in Minnesota, and very kind parents are bringing in the treats by the boatload! My most desired "treat" would be a thank you note cced to my principal. Meanwhile the staff lunchroom is overflowing with all kinds of not good for me goodies.

The countdown to summer begins. Shoot, I forgot to get skinny. Oh well, doing my best each day.

DD (not to put a jinks on you, but) how many snow days did ya'll tally up this winter? Will there be any make up days? I am down to 4 school days and a wake up. We made up one of the two snow days we had. Yah, yah, I know it's just peanuts in comparison. Keep your eyes on the sky tonight- having mentioned snow... Well, you never know.

Re those teacher goodies from hell, for me, just one is too much and everything in the lounge is not enough. Power on, girl!

There is snow in the forecast for Thursday morning! Hopefully just a dusting that will melt by noon. We have 3 days extra in our schedule, so we don't have to make those up. We already made up one when our Govenor said schools would not be penalized thus year if they couldn't meet the minimum student contact hours, so yeah, we do not have to make up the fifth and hopefully, final snow day.

We don't get out until June 7, but we also never have students until the Tuesday after Labor Day, it's a state law, because resort owners etc want our already short summer season to be extended as long as possible.

Coffee lovers, I've been enjoying a new treat. I take a cup of fairlife milk, add a shot of espresso (but I'm sure regular coffee would work too), sugar free torani syrup and ice. Fairlife milk is 80 calories, and 13 grams of protein, so it's a delicious little protein shake.
