Yesterday was another of those "Body says it needs rest" days. I've had more of these kinds of days lately, which bothers me a bit. Still, I'm listening.
Liz, yesterday afternoon I succumbed and took an hourlong nap. Then I went to town for an hour-long massage (ERMAGERD!), to which I wore pajamas and a long robe. I had an early dinner and bedtime, but unfortunately the sleep wasn't long enough (even with socks on), so I got up at 2:30 am. It's clear that my morning weight fluctuations are a function of how early I weigh myself.
All of which matters not a whit. Onward.
Cecily, I think Devon's advice is good. But I know how hard grieving is. I'm feeling for you, my friend.
It'll be a busy day - errands, weeding, housecleaning and other tasks to get ready for a friend who's coming over to the house this evening for "wine and nibbles." The big challenge is to come up with "nibbles" that meet both our needs. I'm thinking about grilled strips of chicken breast with Thai dipping sauce, crudités, and a berry/yogurt parfait. I know she'd probably like cheese and crackers, but I don't trust myself yet to have those in the house. I'll just have to dial up the charm, which means asking her lots of questions about her life and listening really well. You'd think at this point I'd know better how to entertain, huh?
Today's theme: Be interested, not interesting.

Ann, I so would enjoy sitting on a comfy chair, crunchy baby carrot in hand, and consuming a huge portion of your incredible charm- my idea of entertainment. Lucky friend- the evening will be delightful.
Sleep issues last night must have been universal, or maybe only spread across our part of the mid-west. I was awake from about 2:something to well after 3 this morning. I almost gave it up and got up, but finally was able to focus my thoughts on a topic (choosing my wardrobe for the 7 school days remaining) meaningless enough that I dosed off till 5, my regular waking time.
My current weight fluctuations along with last nights mind spinning are most likely due to results received after follow up scans, etc which do not sound especially reassuring and have resulted in an upcoming follow up-follow up PET scan and visit to oncologist next week. To say that I'm angry, worried, etc is obvious. I so feel like, instead of this follow up reassuringly shutting the door on a difficult experience - I have been unwillingly turned around 180 degrees, and am now being sent back into that awful room.
I would appreciate any and all prayers and well wishes that I do not light up like a radioactive constellation of stars on the PET scan next Tuesday.
This is not the way I planned my life to be this summer, but I am CHOOING to show up for and participate fully in it.

Oh, Bonnie, Jeez Louise! As Liz said in her post today, it's good "not to get ahead of ourselves." But I have no surefire scheme about how to manage that.
I definitely hope your PET scan does NOT not light up like a radioactive constellation of stars, and I'm calendaring extra positive vibes for you next Tuesday.
Again, I'm so sorry this has shown up on your plate again.
When will you see the oncologist?

B150, I think a lot about volcanos these days and I picture them erupting WELL WISHES TO BONNIE all at once but of course it would be confetti rather than lava which would travel on the jet stream to tastefully frost your lovely home and surroundings. (Mt St Helens clouds traveled to Iowa so this is not far fetched at all).
