It is 6:30 am and I have already been up for 90 minutes. BIL has been dropped off at the airport for his flight home. The logistics of him getting fully home got a little hairy as SIL in the hospital was supposed to pick her brother up. Her son is doing so instead.
SIL is still in the hospital because she had a pleural effusion (fluid around her heart) which had to be drained. It isn't clear if it is from the cancer or a result of the biopsy but if the former it is a VERY bad sign. She may go home late today or tomorrow depending on when the drainage stops. Her son spent the day with her at the hospital and is now fully in the loop thank goodness. SIL gave permission for other family members to be informed as well. Secrets, especially of this nature, are extremely difficult to keep. My son who is very close to SIL is devastated as he was when he heard his oldest sister had cancer. No matter what the prognosis was he was petrified that it would be the worst and ultimately he was correct. And it doesn't sound good for SIL. I wish I could help him.
Today DH goes to daycare. I haven't told him his sister is ill yet, as he will forget anyway and I might as well wait until we have full information before telling him.
Have a thoughtful Thursday.

Oh, Liz ... your SIL's diagnosis is sounding more severe. But it's good that the secrets phase is over.
My day here yesterday wound up being nicer than expected - the sun came out later in the day. I was so energized by the beautiful weather that I decided to have my evening ****tail at our town's brew pub where every Wednesday is "Spirits Night" and the publican opens a bottle of something special. Last night, in anticipation of Cinco de Mayo, he chose a bottle of some powerful Mezcal from Oaxaca, and his last-minute Facebook reviews persuaded me join the tasting.
I wound up meeting a lovely woman there whose parents are both French, were French teachers, and taught her French as a child. She often visits her relatives in France. Sometimes I'm astonished by the interesting people this little town offers up! I also ran into a young man I hadn't seen for nearly 15 years who has a son graduating from high school this month. It turned out to be quite a social evening.
I also ate dinner at the pub, which was a little scary while I'm still focused on losing the NOLA weight, but I managed it by substituting jerked chicken for the cheeseburger and an undressed green salad for the fries and tossed the bun. My macros for the day worked out fine, even with two shots of mezcal. I won't do this every week, but it felt good to stick my toe back in the going-out-and-socializing world.
Finding balance in all things is a bit tricky for me. But sometimes taking a risk can spur a little growth. This morning I'm feeling stable.
Today's theme (inspired by something I read earlier this morning): Success requires risking failure.

BB, please keep checking in as "safe". Do you have a "storm room" ? I like thinking that you do. My youngest DD is going through some professional challenges, and the updates from Liz and Cecily yesterday put them in perspective. Interviewing a new pet sitter later this morning, for the rare times we have to leave the dogs home for a day or two. We absolutely won't board them, so this is the only option. The last young man we had skipped a mid-day visit and spent eight minutes here, last time, and never said a word. He KNEW we had a remote surveillance/security camera, too ! (To check in on the dogs, not him... but, hey !)
We continue to re-organize the RV for our Sunday - Friday trip, and all the others to follow. It is so nice being retired during the school year...we have our choice of sites Sunday after everyone has left to prepare for their work wee****il Friday, when another weekend comes around.

Good Morning!
Liz, I am so sorry about your SIL. Such an extraordinary sea change for her. Of course hard on family, too. I think this SIL is the one that simply visited you in Florida and wasn't the the SIL who was there long lengths of time, right? DianeS, I hope your BIL (I think it is an IL, right) is doing better. I think loneliness should be listed as a medical condition and I bet everyone in a rehab facility has it.
Cecily, hugs for Fergus, and you, and then another for Ferg. I had a miniature schnauzer once, Mindy, who ended up at a cardiologist. I bawled on the drive there, thru the visit and home again. Now I am tearing up again so moving on.
After a quick glance at my Amazon Wag dog food, I see I need to go back to Kirkland.
I have been struggling mood-wise recently, a resurgence from something that happened 3 years ago at this same time. I feel the need to say that it wasn't something physically violent but rather an emotional hit. Since this is apparently going to visit yearly, I should probably get some counseling. I'm not in a huge hurry cuz the last two years it resolved right after Mother's Day, but I am putting my intention out to the world to get it done in the next several months.
My mood thing has triggered a food thing. So easy to connect the two, not so easy to unravel and snip the final thread that binds.
Ann, Thank you for this morning's link! Iowa, Idaho and Ohio are substituted for each other all the time. The slip of your fingers just made me laugh.
DianeO, how long is this next RV trip? I have already forgotten. BB, I'm looking forward to your next big event -- I am glad the nursery came together and SUPER GLAD you didn't try to paint the furniture you had. Shirl, best wishes for further recovery. B150, always special to hear your voice.
Enjoy the day! Shel

Shel, I support your intention to find a counselor/therapist to address that thing that's bringing you down.

Shel, My sick SIL is the one who lives with us in Florida in the winter and 3 miles away in the summer. She is the one I was so worried about with her drinking and lack of eating. Perhaps she was drinking a lot to feel physically better and the lack of appetite/weight loss was due to her illness? She is very close to my other SIL and me and also to DH and my children.
A counselor will help you understand and handle your mood but may not remove the feeling. As you may recall I suffer low mood annually in the period leading up to and culminating with my eldest DD's death.

Off topic but since we have been talking about people sleeping on giant granite rock walls, here's a pic of that set up.
