BB, hope you're safe !! Miss Bonnie, soak up the sun !! I realized that one of the things I liked about Noom was that I enjoyed learning a helpful tidbit every day and valued the opportunity to consolidate previous learning. Easy fix, I decided to replace something that no longer served me with something I learned, on my daily check-in list. While I like that I am now aware of opportunities to eliminate things in my life that no longer serve me, I'm equally satisfied that I didn't find a category on my list that wasn't working for me, so I added only ! It is so nice when we realize that the rules are ours to make, and ours to follow !!

Ann's "Life is precious. Life is brief. Celebrate it." is to be mulled over and remembered. My other SIL called from the hospital yesterday (she took primary SIL for the biopsy). Apparently both I and my nephew were given only a fraction of information so my unease and lack of sleep were warranted. There had already been an MRI and PET scan in addition to the CT and there is a very large mass in one lung. The biopsy was primarily of her lymph nodes to determine if the cancer (yes they sound sure about it) has spread there. On May 10, they meet to discuss treatment options. I broke the secret to BIL as I was just so devastated. They kept SIL overnight as her heart was fluctuating (per other SIL who didn't get home until late last night).

So my angst over eating and weight feels minor today. We are going to the beach for a bit this afternoon and then put to dinner at a place in the beach for BIL's last day. Primary SIL was supposed to pick him up from the airport tomorrow so we will need to figure that out today especially since I am supposed to not tell anyone.

Have a life affirming Wednesday.

So sorry. Order him and Uber, Lyft, or a car. That way no one will know. Never understood those types of family secrets.

Rules are ours to make and ours to follow- Love it!

One thing I appreciate about the whole process (each of us is going through and everybody in the world, for that mater) is that, for the most part- where I find my self daily is a reflection of MY decisions and actions--mine to make and mine to follow. Taking a daily inventory (such as you do, Diane), and reflecting- then owning and taking responsibility for where I am gives me permission and power to choose where I want to go wth my life. A truly liberating experience.

Smiles and hugs to all today!

Boy! Some big news and big thoughts have already been posted this morning. I vote yes for the rules we follow being ours to make, respect, and change at will.

Liz, that's very tough news about your SIL and what sounds like a fairly advanced cancer diagnosis. This is one of those situations that "takes a village." One of my sisters has a prescription about dealing with hard times: "The only way through is right up the middle." I used to think that was a brutal thing to say and a hard-hearted way to approach those times. But in recent years I've found some softer, more uplifting meanings to support me when I have to suit up and show up.

And just as you described your own reaction to that news, when my husband was diagnosed with cancer two months after my WLS, my "struggles" about what and how much and when and how to eat and exercise suddenly fell into a very different perspective.

Here in the Ozarks, the rain started yesterday afternoon, and last night was replete with tornado watches, warnings, and sightings. BTW, BonnieB in Oklahoma and I usually have coinciding tornado concerns, although she is likely to see them before me since they generally move from southwest to northeast. I was awakened this morning at 3 am by loud thunderboomers, but still clocked 7 hours of sleep, even though I forgot to wear my socks. My rain gauge says we got 2.5 inches of rain, and the pond is full!

Yesterday's morning yoga class delivered some brutal but awesome floor and standing poses. My legs were shaking afterward. But because the weather here was bad, neither mowing nor outdoor walking happened.

However, joy arrived via an email from the instructor of my Iowa Summer Writing Workshop (henceforth short-titled "ISWW") relaying our pre-workshop reading and writing assignments. I ordered two books and read a lot of them and an essay in bootleg versions I discovered online. Then this morning I worked for an hour on an interesting pre-class assignment: We're asked to write numerous "lapidaries" (short, polished memories using sensory imagery) to sharpen our focus as writers.

So I'm now reliving my childhood spent on the first row in class with my hand up. "Me! I know it! Teacher, call on me!"

Hermione Granger is my spirit animal. ;)

Today's theme: Be here now.
