Good morning! Still eating like we have company but BIL is leaving in 2 days.

I had very little sleep last night, but DH actually wasn't too bad. I was awake worrying about SIL (the one who left 2 weeks ago). She saw the doctor about some persistent shoulder pain and recent worsening of her asthma. The doctor was concerned and ordered a CT scan of her lungs in addition to xrays. They saw what they called suspicious "lesions" on her lungs and she is having a biopsy this morning. She is an ex-smoker (20 years ago) and has had asthma for most of the time since then. Hopefully it is nothing, but when I googled lung cancer, shoulder pain, weight-loss and persistent cough were high on the list. Google can be wonderful but can drive one crazy sometimes.

Have a healthy Tuesday!

Good morning all from thundery-rainy SEKansas.

Liz- biopsy?- wow. Dr. must be concerned to act so very quickly. Hopefully the lesions are just past damage and nothing ongoing.

DH sleeping in this morning (poor thing has been feeling punky- cold type stuff, and with the pitiful nursing available here, he may never feel better. I'm afraid I am not the 24/7 hand holding caretaker. Must practice..."there, there, dear...how can I make it better....").

Today hopefully raps up the 6 month follow up scans and blood work and check ups required for the whipple. Information sent everywhere and will not get results back for a while, but by the end of the month expecting to be cleared for a year.

Beginning of June I hope to be in the Florida Panhandle with my dad and sister. Dad has been dealing with his own health issues (same time as mine) and I am more than eager to be with him and give DS a bit of a break as she has been the sole caretaker since November- my kind of hero!

My weight has been stable - hovering around where it is now for a month or so and is back where it was at about 5#s below original goal. DH thinks I should stay where I am- I am, like, "yah, but I've gained 9#s since...". Reading what I've just typed just shows the power numbers have over me sometimes- just the thought that less is better--not--so how do I feel-look-and what was it caused the extra weight loss in the first place? Kind of dysfunctional- ya think!?

What I do know- in comparison to all the activity, steps, movement I see posted here by y'all exercising heroes, I am the proverbial slug. No excuses and time to get a move on.

Peps-- that positive self talk does indeed work. There is even more power in it when spoken aloud and often, so bring up that massive theatrical voice I know you have- and speak it into truth!

Diane- sending some cyber asparagus your way!

So great to hear from you! Florida in June will be hot, but at least it is further north (we are 90 here now). Sounds like you are doing well!

Again, the scales are bouncy, bouncy. But the trend is what matters. Onward, downward. :)

Last night I slept 7 hours. Not bad. Wearing socks to bed seems important.

Yesterday I got lots more mowing done--this time without my step-counter on. It's going to be rainy here this week, and I need another hour to finish the trails, field and road edges, etc. Looks like mowing will consume 6 hours every week or two through October.

Today brings yoga class, some morning errands, and picking up downed timber (which is more satisfying that that might sound). :)

Bonnie150, so glad to hear your voice and glad that your Whipple recovery continues apace. I hear you on that "power of numbers" issue, since numbers are a very close friend of mine. ;) Like everything, they can be useful, but can also cast dark shadows.

Liz, I'm sorry your sleep was interrupted by worries about your SIL's health. More and more health issues are now also appearing among my friends and family, which is understandable given our advancing years. And the effects of old bad habits, even ones we discarded years ago, are sometimes catching up with us. Plus random bad stuff happens, or bodies just plain wear out.

Which brings up the subject of "Grieving 2.0." Obviously, my husband's death last year focused my attention on end of life passages, e.g., terminal diseases, diminished abilities, death, and grief. I realize this next bit may sound weird, but I'm starting to appreciate that I must accept and even expect these and other changes in order to be at peace. Life is so brief that it deserves celebration every day we draw breath.

Today's theme: Life is precious. Life is brief. Celebrate it.

Liz, hope that SIL is ok.

B150, good to see you this morning and that is some fancy asparagus!

Ann, in the midst of family crazies, I needed this: Life is precious. Life is brief. Celebrate it. thank you for that.

So glad to see MissBonnie here. I'm sharing your thundery weather. But it's kinda deeeelicious! April showers...

But there is worry about tornadoes here today! It's so very scary and the destruction it leaves is obviously horrific. But there is also something awesome about it, ya know? Mother nature that is so completely out of our control. I'm humbled by it.

My doctor's office weight was 188--which is actually 3lbs. lighter than at this same point in my last pregnancy--and yet I started out about 8lbs. heavier!! So I've only gained like 23lbs. This makes me insanely happy. I have a problem.

Of course there was other good news like baby looks good and is in right position! It's getting really real.

I'm panicking about getting everything done. But happily we found a pretty little white furniture set and have begun putting the nursery together! We just signed leases for our fixed-up duplex and one of the others is being remodeled as we speak and we sign their lease today! And the last one will be for my step kids and we'll move on to remodeling it next week. Things are rolling! Finally! Yay!

BB150 - wonderful to see your post this morning!

Holy CRAP! You ought to see what this test is asking 8 year olds to do. It is such utter BULL****! I can't cite directions verbatim because I've sworn in a signed affidavit that I won't share the actual content of the tests. However, my 8 year old students are being asked to create multiple paragraph answers to prompts like this: Your class is studying geysers in Iceland. Using what you read in Source #1 and Source #2 create an opinion essay on the benefits of geysers and using geothermal power as a natural resource. Your essay should include at least 2 supporting details from each source. Remember that you will share this essay with your teacher and your class. Or even better - Your class is creating a website about beach living. Pretend you and your family have moved to the beach. After your first night at the beach you wake up and look out the window. You are amazed by what you see. Write about your first night and the days that follow. Use the information you read from Source #1 and Source #2 to add realistic detail to your writing.

Food front: Yesterday was the best eating day I have had in weeks and weeks. I was so damn proud of myself when I went to bed. Then I peed twice during the night - always a good sign for the scale. NOPE! I was up almost a pound. BOOOOOOO! Maybe I should not weigh myself daily right now. However, it is a very hard habit for me to break. It's engrained. Anyway - I ate 5 servings of fruits and veggies, very few carbs, and lots of protein. It is most definitely a step in the right direction.

My back is better, but still not 100%. I should have thought to go the chiropractor yesterday, but I didn't. Unfortunately, he's off today. Sunburn still hurts a bit - okay more than a bit.

We have treats coming out of the nooks and crannies today for the testing. I'm confessing I had a couple of those brownie bite things. Oh, well....
