Zion is wonderful!!!! So awe-inspiring. I wish we had more time here. I need to come back. Here are some pics which don't do it justice...
The Narrows (hike down the Virgin River all in the water) was closed as the river was too full and fast (they close it when it's moving over 150 cubic feet per second). So beautiful and FREEZING though:
One of my friends and I. Me with more hat hair:
Darn cairns! But these were all in one place and tiny. I must admit they were pretty cute:
To give you a sense of the scale, there are at least 7 rock climbers on this rock face. It's like where's Waldo, Zion Edition:
That does not look like a river I want to be in! You can do it next time. Such a wonderful place.
Great pictures. I wonder if 7 climbers on one face is considered excessive to the climbers....they probably have some sort of etiquette they must follow.

There were two on the tram with us (the bottom two climbers in the pic). They were talking about their climb and were bummed to see all the people already on the wall. They didn't want to be behind any slow people and were deciding whether to go some place else if the next climbers ahead weren't moving fast enough. Must have been as we saw them up there later (could pick out the one guy's Bright orange helmet and blue shirt).
They had a ton of carabiners hanging from their belts and an enormous bag presumably full of ropes. We joked after they got off the tram that there must not have been any spare room in that giant bag for a stick of deodorant... Nice kids though.
Good grief! I have GOT to go to Zion! I honestly didn't know there was so much water there and so much topographic relief. That whole canyon of rock faces is not something I've ever seen pictures of before.
And FTR, I can't spot a single climber in your photo. I've known several climbers from my younger Sierras days (I lived in SoCal 20 years), and they seemed so focused, even when they were walking on level ground or drinking coffee.

Bryce is other worldly in a different way. Home of the hoo doos. Now I have to post hoo doos.
But as I looked for hoodoos, I cam across a Zion Narrows hike pic that shows the same river that looked so scary in your picture. What a difference in water...we were there about the same time of year, just the luck of the draw with weather.
The 2 next pics are hoodoos, as you have noted, pics never show the full impact you get in person. Bryce has a zillion little hiking loops that can be combined into larger hikes. The hiking "trails" feel a lot like paths.

FYI, Alberta (Canada) has lots of hoodoos!

As I recall, there are also tons on them on the drive between Calgary and Banff.
What a cool world this is. I'm learning a lot from y'all lately -- including some stuff I thought I already knew. :)

Zion is 2.5 hours from Vegas. Very easy to fly into Vegas, rent a car, and be there in a flash. The little town outside of Zion has decent food so you don't even have to do a grocery run. I have tried, without success, to get DH interested in a 3-4 day weekend in Zion.
