There it is, folks -- my first not-perfect day on my Lose-the-NOLA regain program. :) And that's me through and through--perfect except when I'm not. ;)

So what happened? Last night after dinner, while watching Netflix, I got really hungry for protein. I mean really, really hungry! So I made a tuna salad of canned albacore, lite mayo and pickle relish and ate it all. Are the tough yoga classes catching up with me? Is my body building back those old yoga muscles and demanding more protein? Not sure what it was, but I expect I won't care to meet a can of tuna for a while. Onward!

Yesterday was cloudy and windy, and the mercury didn't even reach 60. But today is beautiful with no clouds at all, a lovely sunrise, and a predicted high of 70F. It's perfect mowing weather. Yee-haw! Tomorrow will be even nicer and fit for more mowing, so that'll be my weekend exercise. I'll be channeling my inner Shirl.

Shirl, how are you doing down there?

Cecily, I'm so glad you enjoyed the This American Life podcast, too. I found so much to appreciate in all of the stories told.

And a quick food review: the Mann Nourish Bowl Basil Chicken thingie was just OK. I liked the Southwest Chipotle one much better. Next week I'll hope to try a Thai version of the bowl and report on that.

EDITED to add a movie review: Last night I found on Netflix a movie I really enjoyed called "About Time" (I was attracted to it because Bill Nighy is in it, and I adore him). The film is about some people who can time travel (only to the past) and how they use that power to improve their lives. I'll not give a spoiler, but will say that it helped me have an epiphany about mindfulness and how accessible it is in daily life. Others might enjoy it, too. :)

Today's theme: Because Easter is tomorrow, I'm reprising my favorite Bible verse: This is the day the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Good morning!

Sadly, I did not reduce my eating as much as I wanted Mon-Fri. I can't really blame a hang over from weekend training eats, tho. I would buy Easter treats "for DD." Eat, repeat. Does typing this rinse this from my soul? I say yes, yes it does.

I might need to rethink my habit of stopping at the grocery store for fresh food most days per week.

Cecily and Ann, I guess I am not surprised that couple divorced. Really, an impossible situation. OMG, yes, totally thought of you, Cecily, when Elna (?) was splitting after surgery and her friend came to help, both with the aid of a benzo. Totally appropriate use of benzo....that is something I don't type very often!

Ann, I fear that I will finish Less this weekend. I am pre-greiving. Knowing I have DD's book in my back pocket too -- I think it is 22 hours!! Sweet!

Off to Saturday training hike. I'm trying to break in my Mt St Helen's boots. They are like lumps of clay on my feet....I don't think that feeling will ever go away.

Find contentment,

Shel

I hear you on the grocery store and treats! I avoided the giant aisle of Easter candy yesterday, because I know they have giant Reeses eggs and I could eat a dozen and still want more. After Sunday, the discounted remnants will relocate to temporary tables in the frozen food aisle to tempt some more... no frozen food for me next week.

Ugh, such a good friend Elna had! I'd love to know how her scars ended up and if she needed a revision.

PS, Ann, tuna salad with Netflix? Hardly a misstep. You were gearing up for farm day.

PSS. Shirl, hope you are resting.

Damp and chilly today... in the low 40s now, heading up toward 70. We have SS back from the dealer, all repaired, hopefully. After returning her to her pad and digging ruts in the lawn I seeded in the fall after the pad was blacktopped, we had to admit that it isn't wide enough in places to swing a 32 foot vehicle in to final position. I'm now digging out the topsoil and grass I put in in the fall, laying landscaping fabric, and planning to put a 3' to 4' boarder of gravel topped with river rock in along three quarters of the driveway. My OCD goes crazy when mega tires tear up pristine lawn, and it just isn't reasonable to make parking her into a major event. We have to be able to swing in and park. In two weeks, we're camping in the place we had to cancel in PA Grand Canyon last fall, because she was in the shop. They wouldn't refund, but they would reschedule. Then, every two weeks until mid-June, we go somewhere localish for 4-5 days. We go to Maine for two weeks in September, and then we're gearing up for down south. The next big step will be towing a car.

I haven't listened to the podcast, but the fact that Ann provided the link puts it higher on my list of things to get to today. Shirl, hope you are listening to Dr's orders ! Everyone else, stay healthy and energized !! This is certainly the weekend to think of fresh starts and new beginnings !

You might look into alternatives for the landscape fabric? They put it down under my paths in my veggie garden and it's a pain in the ass. The weeds still grow through it, but then when you pull them, they catch on the fabric and pull that up with the roots, scattering the path material. Such a mess. I wish they hadn't used it.

Oh I LOVE that movie! I think it's called About Time? A definite tearjerker, but in the most lovely, heartfelt way.

Weight down a pound today. Heading in the right direction.

Ceiling fan repair guy can come today, yay! So I'm waiting for him. I bought a bag of stirfry and sauce from the produce section yesterday. I think I'll do that for lunch and maybe throw some shrimp in.

Not much else to report, but thought I'd share this zen lizard posing for me on my hike yesterday on a little rock stack someone made. (PSA, rock stacking is very frowned upon in the hiking world)

Why is rock stacking considered bad in the hiking world? Not that I'll be stacking rocks anytime soon, if I'm out hiking I'm not looking for more exertion! I have a little rock stack of about 5 rocks I've picked up along the way on my window sill above the kitchen sink. They are all very smooth river stones, in varying shades of grey. Such a small thing, but I love to look at them while I'm at the sink, and I lovingly restack them if they get moved, or jostled.

Some trails use them to mark the trail so if you build your own you can confuse hikers. And it disturbs the habitat and alters the landscape (moving rocks from streams can disturb fish eggs or moving them from the forest floor disturbs insects or animals who make their home underneath). It's sort of viewed like graffiti when people want to enjoy nature as it was intended without obvious human stamps on it.

But a windowsill or your own garden is a great place for one!
