So, reading on in Gretchen Rubin's book, the Obliger chafes the most against being classified that tendency, BUT by far its undesirable tendencies are the most easily remedied. After realizing that looking through attributes from other tendencies to aspire to was the little voice inside my head rebelling, viewing descriptions of the Obliger as character flaws or a simple matter of motivation/effort. (PEPS... perhaps your voice is quicker and louder than mine !) The issue is the significance of external accountability. That is all. Work in progress.

In the general population:

41% Obliger

24% Questioner

19% Upholder

17% Rebel

Hello!

I am time poor. HUGS TO ALL because this questioner enjoys researching all things related to weight with people who say N of 1 and mean it.

Ann, currently enjoying Less. Wish I was savoring it with my eyes but listening to it isn't bad.

Specific podcast Rec: This American Life: episode 589 Tell Me I'm Fat. This was a repeat/update of a podcast from 2 years ago. I didn't hear it then. Much truth and humor! I thought it was going to be just about body positivity movement but So Much More.

I am obsessed with Mt St Helens logistics, which, by the way I will cancel if weather sucks so this all might be for naught. Just in the last 12 hours, I have 99% decided that I'll stay overnight at the parking lot to ensure 1) get a parking spot and 2) be up and at it super early for better snow/less slush conditions. It is still 4.5 weeks away.

I am pretty sure there is a new study out there that shows that some people are genetically prone to feeling full. *******s.

BB, your description of childcare woes made me a bit nostalgic. That time is so hard! My daughter no longer needs that type of care. Our current crisis is that in 2 weeks, she will likely need a ride from a track meet (late Friday night) to an orchestra contest (early Saturday morning). Because the of the track meet, she will miss the orchestra bus. She can't miss either event: the track meet is an invitational, an honor to run in. She is concert master of orchestra.

Anyhoo, the two events are a 6 hour drive ONE WAY from one another. And, I don't want to miss training hikes so close to Rainier. There are no appropriate mtns near the orchestra thing. It will all work out, somehow. It always does.

Find contentment,

Shel

OH! EM! GEE! Shel is right -- this podcast is amazing. In fact, although I totally recognize how pathological my control issues are, I do think that listening to that podcast is necessary for every person in this group.

Or not, as I'm probably legally required to say. :)

You can find the podcast online here.

Thank you so much, Shel!

I really identified with Elna who lost weight and had skin surgery (especially the splitting incisions part!!). The part where she's talking to her new husband about how he wouldn't have dated "fat Elna" broke my heart. And then his trying to convince her that the "real her is the skinny her" totally dismissing her fat self made me really mad. Because I too don't feel like a different person being thinner.

Cecily, I'm so glad you listened to it. I also thought about you A LOT when Elna was talking about her incisions splitting. I adorec her friend who brought over a bottle of wine and two Xanax -- one for each of them.

It will not shock you to learn that, according to the internet, Elna and her husband (Mark) are no longer married.

Greetings Maintenance Creatures

Not so good today for this one. 156.5. Ezekiel bread with peanut butter may not be the best breakfast. Just can't stand to cook much anymore.

My brother with the brain surgery is now in a rehab place. I think he has some balance issues and needs to learn to use walker. He calls me often as I think he is lonely. I need to get DH to call him as they yuck it up and share jr. high bathroom jokes. I also plan to go get a bunch of post cards and send them regularly.

Studio day today if DH ever comes back with the car. The electric charge station has something wrong with it and once again, DH is in full mission control mode exploring all the electronics. Hope its under warranty still.

Also need to go to the discount grocery and pick up items for the homeless outreach. The homeless are blamed for all the petty property crime around here. A new social services center is going in our town soon. Meanwhile it seems to me that people should help feed them rather than try to kick them out.

Thats about it. No insight whatsoever on weight. Diane S

Today has been blissfully ordinary. Beautiful sunshine, even warmer tomorrow. I took some clothes to the consignment shop, made a Costco run, bought some paint samples for my foyer redo... I did not want to make Easter Dinner, and luckily some friends invited us to join them. We'll drop by in the afternoon after driving to visit our son, who has but a few more weeks before he graduates from college.

Weight down 1.8 today

Listening to the podcast Shel mentioned. Really good stuff!

I hiked this morning, changed my wireless plan twice because I keep running out of data (first time I picked a plan that ended up being way more expensive than I thought it would be), went to the grocery store, and tracked down a guy to fix one of my ceiling fans (he comes Tuesday). I had another one of those meals today. Cajun pork tenderloin over spicy citrus cabbage. Very yummy.

My eating was reasonable today. No plans the rest of the weekend. Hope to continue to eat reasonably.

Hugs being sent out to all!
