I have to go back next month to have a mole on my face biopsied as a precaution...they are not excessively alarmed. I was repeatedly lectured about excessive exposure to the sun.. bordering on shaming... but melanoma is deadly... I get it.
I am having the darnedest time uploading my house picture. The bottle tree was a breeze. I have hair cut & color, manicure and massage today... I look kind of ragged in the picture. You can tell which leg experiences lymphedema, from hip to foot... at least I can.

Good morning, All!
I am in Oregon, land where gas attendants pump your gas, by law. This always makes me feel uncomfortable.
I need to dial the calories back in. I, too, will order that book. One can never have too many well crafted tools in the library. Like DianeO, I appreciate that this forum helps me see that I am ABLE, even if I am not feeling it at the moment.
I couldn't sleep last night and I found myself flipping thru "is this skin cancer?" picture show on a med education site. Some day, I should get a body screen but first I am going to harass my DH who is a redhead with long history of sunburns in youth.
I'm in a Denny's for the hotel's free breakfast. My waitress is amazing....must tip accordingly.
Well, I need to get moving. In 4 hours, I will be on a training hike on my usual trails. Then, finally, I get to go home. Both DH and DD are sick. DD has been texting me pics of her tonsils -- good heavens the iPhone has made it easy to look at tonsils in graphic details! (I can not unsee.). She is is now on antibiotics.
DianeO, that bottle tree is so interesting....I have never run across it. I lived in Northwest Africa but I see the tradition came from the southern part of the continent. And, I haven't spent any real time in the south. (I must fix that)
Enjoy the day,
Shel

Dang, I didn't get a pic of my house yesterday! What I'd really love to do is get you a photo of my backyard, perfectly pruned, pool looking inviting, patio clean of leaves, hanging pots, pots around the pool in full bloom, DH manning sizzling steaks on the grill while I relax in a floatie, marg in hand. Oh boy what a dream!! Hey, at least the grass is coming back!
184.8. Lower lower. Weird. I might actually lose weight at my ob appt today.
Unfortunately I think I spotted my first new stretchmark. I think I made it through Becca's pregnancy without any. I worried at the end they were springing up, but in reality I think my old ones were just stretching over my belly and becoming more visible. I'm actually fairly upset about this. Luckily it's not purpleish yet, just light pink. But it's right in the friggin middle where I had none!!! Why couldn't it have joined all the other obesity time stretch marks??!! C'est la vie. I'm lucky for the most part to not get too down about that or cellulite, or love handles, or loose skin. Sure, I don't like it. But I know where I've come from. And if I cannot give myself permission to be happy in this body, 7 months pregnant, after having toted around 126lbs., when can I? My body's been through a lot. Them's battle scars! (now I just need to repeat until I believe it!)
Busy weekend ahead. First, my appointment. Then a 4D ultrasound to see Miss Charlotte! This evening we were invited to dinner at a friend's house. I will try to convince Rich to watch Becca so I can get in prenatal yoga tomorrow morning before heading to a kid birthday party. Saturday evening we are going to dinner with another set of friends. And then Sunday we scored Thunder tickets!
Ocean Diane, I'm sure you've read Because of Winn Dixie. Your tree reminds me of the bottle tree in that story. However, if I recall correctly, her bottles hung from the branches of a real tree and were quite a sight to behold. The many bottles of liquor she had consumed in her days of uncontrolled drinking. An ever constant reminder of the demons she left behind.

I would not have noticed the lymphedema, except that you pointed it out, so I looked for it. I am guessing very few people, if any really notice it in your day to day life. Question: is your lymphedema the result of medical treatments that damaged your lymph glands, or is it a function of autoimmune disease? Just curious, but of course, you don't have to answer. I understand privacy needs.
Multiple surgeries on that leg (major skin graft & open reduction of ankle fracture) followed by DVT caused vascular damage.

Goodness me! I drank very little water yesterday and suddenly up two pounds. Funny how that works. Don't drink enough and the body says, "I must store it now that you are depriving me of it!" Body is smart!
2 dozen doughnuts were placed upon my desk this morning. Sigh.... Last week my shrink mentioned that perhaps because of the school influence I might not really be able to "kick" the sugar habit until I retire. I said, "NO WAY!" but I appreciated that she understood the added layer of difficulty school provides me. The students and parents show their love and appreciation for me through food. It's a normal thing. And let's face it, you see the fat guy and you know he loves food, so you gift him with something he loves. It makes perfect sense. Food has been an expression of love for millennia! Oh, I shared the doughnuts with the kids. Decided I didn't need to eat 2 dozen all by myself. LOL!
I am deciding now whether or not I should wait until my planned start for my sugar detox or go ahead and start a week early. I am torn. If I start the pre detox this week then I will be officially detoxing over a 4 day dog show, which could be super difficult for me the first week of detox. I don't want to set myself up for an excuse to veer off the program, BUT I also feel like I need to rein it in right now. Another thought was to "practice" and reduce sugar over the next week to get ready for the pre detox week You know, sort of a pre-pre-detox week. Writing it here brings some clarity. I like my idea of the pre-pre-detox week. Input, thoughts, observations welcome on this. Most of you know me pretty darn well... so, I'm willing to hear it all - the good, the bad, and the ugly!
Ron has a man cold. Need I say more?
Today is the Friday before spring break. Naturally, I have scheduled too many dogs for the week off, but that is partly due to making up dogs I cancelled when I was sick with the flu. Also, a client or two called that I have a hard time saying no to, so... Yet, I am looking forward to a nice break. I am at the point where I need a bit of regenerative time. I already feel the relaxation washing over me.
Ahhhhh.....
It is 3 pm already and all I've done today is walk, watch a bocce championship game, paid bills and am now at the pool. In other words, I haven't left our park. We have foraged in the freezer and determined that we can get a dinner together without leaving so we are not going anywhere! Kind of good after a lot of activity with visiting SIL this week.
I still need to get a picture of my place here - maybe later this afternoon. I also need to check out that sugar detox book - does it include detox from things like breads and pastries?
DH is happier today after explaining that he essentially felt bullied at daycare. At least I think that is what he is trying to convey. I said I'd talk to them (basically a heads up that at least he thinks he is being pushed around).
Have a fine Friday!

The 21 Day Sugar Detox is basically a no sugar, no refined grains regimen. There are three levels of detox. Since I have been more than over doing it on carbs, I will be detoxing on the level 1 plan. In a nutshell it is no sugar, no refined flours, with 1 serving of either Granny Smith Apple or semi green banana per day and up to 1/2 of legumes or rice each day. Full fat diary is allowed on level 1.
You can learn more about the program at www.21daysugardetox.com Under the What is the 21DSD header there is a link for "free resources". You can get the program "rules" for free there. I believe the book is well worth the 20 bucks!
