Not a dumb question at all. I think the traditional professional climbers just didn't care about pooping out in the wild. They are all about nature and (as a traditional man's-club) not concerned about modesty. And, they were often out there for weeks/months at a time so it was normalized instead of an emergency.
They did care about aesthetics of frozen poops all over their playground. Climber etiquette called for throwing it into a crevasse but with warming (is everything about the climate?) their "samples" started showing up down stream. No surprise there was lot's of concern about poop floating around like that. Now, pack it out is a common requirement.
I just cobbled a lot of sentences together about something I don't know a whole lot about. That's how how I got thru school.

Given my soul-deep dislike of pottying anywhere near others (to the point I have to plug my ears in public restrooms to drown out the sounds of other people. I'm weird, I know), I feel your fear of needing to go while roped to others! I'm anxious and plugging my ears just thinking of it!

I'm a bit disappointed by that since I've had a stomach bug and not eating much all weekend.
I'll have some catching up to do with y'all!
this weekend was a challenge. DH and I tried to still do some of the things we had planned--like a game night Friday night that has been planned for 2 months!! I felt bad about canceling but poor DH was very ill and then I was up later than usual + wake up early with Becca + Rich not feeling well enough to help the next day + me getting sick meant it was a bad idea all around. I think I had a mild version of whatever he had, but it was still bad enough that rather than our planned date night, we paid DSD to come over and watch Becca while we slept on Saturday afternoon.
But life doesn't stop. A toddler doesn't stop. Dishes piled up and there were groceries to be grabbed.
I have learned that it's much easier to be joyful and tolerant when you're not tired or sick or in pain. Makes me wonder how many angry/mean/unhappy people are simply not feeling well?!! I did not have much humor for Becca's antics on Saturday and was so thankful for the rest DSD allowed us. And then I could see it Sunday, when I was feeling much better, my patience was far better than poor DH's. And to add insult to injury, he's been feeling awfully guilty about it.
Well it's a new day, a new week. Trying not to let the past dictate anything. Trying not to let fear motivate anything. Just one day at a time. That's so true about life and weight, isn't it?
Yes, one day at a time applies to most everything... if we have a bad day, get back where we belong and make the next one a better day!

GREETINGS Merry Maintainers
Not much maintenance going on here. I am up a pound after my trip. Really surprised as I didn't eat terribly (ok one small box of cheezits) and got lots of steps in walking dogs and schlepping junk. Oh well, so it goes.
Dog shows are fun but so tiring. We seem to always show early in the morning - I am told because our dogs don't require a great deal of grooming on the day of show. Its done ahead of time. Still wish we could show later. Tesla showed nicely but was defeated by a lesser quality creature which was beautifully groomed. Goes to show ya. Oh well. As mentioned she passed the eye certification test and if I had not been able to do it at these shows I would have had to drive 200 miles to a specialist.
Got a dentist apt today due to a cancelation. Just cleaning. Not much else planned except to hit the studio and the grocery store.
Lately it seems I feel stiff and sore all the time. Getting tired of it. Guess I need to move more but its hard when it hurts to move. Bummer.
I am getting check ins from my friends back in Omaha. So far everyone is ok and safe from the floods but they are massive. Not good.
Well that's about it. Enjoy the warmth and sun those of you who have it. diane S
I guess today is the get back to it day. I had a carb tantrum, meaning I ate some unplanned carbs this morning (donuts at a meeting) and then decided that nobody was going to stop me from having some more. Nobody of course, being the grown up part of my brain who got pummeled by the tantruming part of my brain. And so it went for most of the day. I forced myself to eat a boiled egg in the afternoon to get back on track. Stopped at the grocery store and bought some staples for my healthy eating, and think I am master of myself again. One day at a time, or even one minute at a time.

I didn't notice the date goof, Liz! Hope you get some cooler temps...
My weight is up a lot. And my eating is crap. Argh. I know it, I know how to fix it, what I don't know is how to make myself want to fix it.
I had a good talk with Ferg's vet today about his arthritis limp (Ferg's limp, not the vet's). He takes Previcox daily (anti-inflammatory), but still limps noticeably. The vet suggested we try a new med after this prescription is used up and to throw a few more holistic things on the fire like fish oil, turmeric/curcumin, and bone broth. He already takes glucosamine and chondroitin. He also said he can't officially recommend it as a vet, but that some studies have shown CBD oil has shown promise with severe arthritis in dogs. He warned that you never know what you're getting with CBD as it's not regulated and there is the risk of pesticides etc. I searched around and found a well reviewed company from Colorado that makes CBD pet treats. There were several positive reviews from people with old dogs who had gotten some of their puppy spark back. I figure we'll give it a try. I want him to be as comfortable as possible for as long as possible. Have we talked abiut CBD oil before? I feel like it's come up... Maybe with Dave?
CBD oil..... Hmmmm..... I will be honest: I have a bottle for the dogs that I use religiously twice per year. I use it every New Year's Eve around 11:30 and again on the 4th of July. I use a strong tincture (I can give you the ratio, if you want it. I just don't know it off the top of my head) and it works wonders to curb Keira's anxiety from the thunderous booms of fireworks. I have used it on Ella, too and it has worked just as well for her. So, for that type of issue, I can swear by CBD oil. It really is marvelous. It is a true life saver for Keira. She gets stoned enough from 4 drops on a biscuit she can fall asleep with the fireworks.
I have never used CBD oil to treat pain or joint inflammation.
THC is an hallucinogenic. CBD is not. BUT I will say that the CBD does knock my two girls for a loop and they fall asleep pretty quickly after taking the drops. You will have to experiment what works for Ferg.
I use a product called Glycoflex that I order from Chewy.com. I use the super duper strength for Keira, and the entry level dose for everyone else. Keira is almost 10 (on March 26th) and has looser hips and suffered a severe spinal injury that temporarily left her hindquarters completely paralyzed. We've not yet had to put her on any anti-inflammatory drugs. I chock that up to the Glycoflex and decent diet she gets.
My two cents.
CBD oil works miracles for MY significant knee arthritis, that I can attest to !
