Good morning!

B150, I wish to go down a rabbit hole with you as my guide. DD, please come with!

I am looking forward to the dog show reports. DianeO, your pics and posts make my heart ache in the best way! Nature is tonic. There are so many ways to enjoy. Liz, I love the way you have designed your Florida life. Your SIL is passive. Maybe you can have a roommate type of conversation where you say that you need time alone, simply by yourself, even if it is just errands. This is so important since you are on-duty whenever you are with DH. This is so obvious to your forum friends. Cecily, come hike with me! (We might need to stop at REI first to outfit you for our moisture.) BB, I hope you and family are doing well. I hope you find some peace as you navigate a happy social and home life.

I have been busy at home and at work ---but mostly, in a good way. Food has generally been on point for my purposes. My physical training plan has a 4 week rhythm to it. This last 4 weeks I added my general food goals to each day. That was surprisingly effective. The power of intention?

I have posted little, lately, but shall lean heavily on this forum to keep me oriented the next couple of weeks.

Tomorrow morning I leave for Minden, IA. I have to make sure I have an internet connection on the plane because 3/18 is the day you can sign up for the lottery to climb Mt St Helens. I have to submit my dates about an hour into the flight. It would be an excellent hike to do about 5 weeks before Rainier per my uphill trainer. I should also "practice" snacks, etc to see what I like and don't like. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE SNACKS.

In Iowa, I am looking forward to the PEOPLE so very much! With the people comes many meals. As I sit here in the dark and comfort of my own home, ( Buster by my side,) I feel comfortable with doing my own food thing. These people, for the most part, have seen me struggle with weight. (Most of them share my genetic struggles.) They simply won't care what I (don't) eat. (My mantra: they don't care what I (don't) eat.")

I'll come back to Seattle next Sunday and immediately begin my drive South. I'll make it to DianeS's stomping grounds the next day and spend some time with Diane S, Redwoods and art galleries. I'm there just a few nights. On the way back, I stop at Mt Rainier on the way back and hopefully buy mountain boots or at least have a lot more information about them.

Hey, does anyone have acoustic music to recommend for me? Any genre is all. Also, anything (not necessarily acoustic) that is Latin would be appreciated....particularly upbeat. (I'm looking at you, DD.) I have both Prime music and Apple Music if that helps.

Have a great day! Shel

So cool that you are going to climb Mt St Helens. DH did the climb with his brother many years ago and it was incredibly memorable for him.

Thank you for all the happy birthday wishes. It ended up being a decent day. SIL and I had lunch at a place on the water while it poured, but we were under cover so it was fine. It was dry and warm by the time we had our outdoor dinner at a nice Italian restaurant. I had pears in pasta sacks in a gorgonzolla and walnut sauce and only ate about 1/3, but it was SO good! We brought DH back home and he was in bed by 6:45, so SIL and I went back out to another place on the water and split coconut cream pie. Altogether it was a pretty good day.

My Irish bread is in the oven cooking to bring to our friends for a boiled dinner tonight and we are going over to an art festival for a bit this afternoon. Have I mentioned that DH and his family are 75% Irish and I'm probably about 50%. Kind of common in Massachusetts, though not necessarily in other areas of the country.

Have a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Good morning! Reconsidering my mountain climbing ambitions if it means I could eat peanut butter pretzels. Also considering the wake up call I received when I learned that peanut butter pretzels are packed with enough energy to help a person reach a summit, and are therefore not really needed for climbing in and out of a Chevy Equinox to run errands.

One of the final pushes that made me say yes to WLS: We were going to Italy, and I wanted to hike the mountain trails in Cinque Terras. One year and two weeks after surgery, I was on those trails. At one point we came to a look over, below us the sea, the town we had started from, and the town we were descending to. And then the church bells rang as I surveyed this scene. Sublime. I would have endured the surgery just for that moment alone.

I really do need to up my exercise. When we go to Mexico City, we will visit the Pyramids of The Sun and the Moon outside the city in Teuotihacan (surely did not spell correctly). I want to make sure I can climb to the top because it will be beautiful, and also because I want to recreate the photo of my bff and I on top of the pyramid when we were 22. Goals!

Shel, off the top of my head, I might recommend the genre of Brazilian Carnaval music. Lots of percussion and upbeat rhythm. Might also be in the genre of Sambas. Sambas can be upbeat, but are also used to express anguish. Carnaval music is usually on the happy, bouncy side.

Happy St Patty's day my leprechaun friends ! Had a fabulous walk at sunrise (where the sun actually rises) and we just took the dogs for another on the most southern tip of the island.. the part that is underwater during bad storms. We came back and I put the corned beef in the pot and will be adding the red potatoes, carrots and corned beef as we go. I didn't even attempt to offer up a dessert as I've not been derailed so far. This will be the first non fish dinner in a week ! I am not ready to think of this time coming to an end, so I won't.

Liz, your birthday sounded fun. Shel, can't wait to hear about this next hike and your quest to identify fueling snacks. You are also so fortunate to be visiting Diane S, .and he infamous fudge shop.

The luck of the Irish to ya'll !

One of my hiker friends just got back from climbing Kilimanjaro (he's 77!). He said the day they summitted, it took 8 hours to climb 3 miles such was the altitude. He said it was like wearing lead boots. And coming down that 3 miles was even harder as the ascent was done in the middle of the night when the ground was frozen from nighttime temps and coming down, it was morning and had thawed and all the gravel was really loose. 8 hard hours to go 3 miles. I can't imagine!

I would love to hike with you sometime!! I will be shopping for rain gear this year before New Zealand. It'll be Spring and likely rainy there when we go...
