Happy weekend from Pawley's Island ! DC's aunt/sister (raised together by his grandmother) from Charleston is with us for the weekend. I'll be making corned beef and cabbage with red potatoes, carrots and onions tomorrow, and corned beef hash topped with fried egg for Monday morning breakfast before she leaves. She really wants to get over her fear of kayaks, so I'll try to work on that goal! Having the best time. I don't want to think about leaving.
Liz, is there a reason SIL has to stay with you? She sounds like an energy sucker you really don't need. If she wants to come down, why can't she find her own place ?
DD and Shirl... hope you have as much fun planning your adventures as I did. RV, Seeking Serenity, does in to be de- winterized the Monday after we get back, so more planning ahead.

Diane, I'm glad you are enjoying your visit to Pawleys Island. Your pictures on FB are so tranquil!
On the SIL question, I was the one who made this happen and I really don't feel I can reverse it. We bought a three bedroom so she could live with us (I invited her to rent from us****il she was actually living here, I didn't realize how dependent she could be. I thought her drinking was only on special occasions and though I knew she could be passive, I didn't realize now much. If I were to guess, it is worse when there is someone available to rely on? Because she does have to function when living alone. In other words, if she has to make decisions because there is no one else able to do it she can, but will rely on others whenever possible (even when she later wishes she hadn't). You know, she ended up working for the company I worked for for almost 30 years because I got her a job. She actually reported to me at first until I transferred and she moved to another position. She never made it very far in the ranks because of her personality and complained about that at times but obviously never talked to her bosses.
Anyway, today is my birthday and hopefully it won't rain all day (as it is right now). We have a reservation outside at a restaurant this afternoon so if it keeps raining that will be a no go. Below are some pics I took walking around the pond here yesterday afternoon. Have a satisfying Saturday!

Happy Birthday! I hope you get your chance to celebrate at your chosen venue.
In the end Liz, you have done something very merciful for your SIL, because it sounds like she is very happy to spend time in your home. It might be the best part of her year. It's not your job to take care of her, and yet you extend this kindness.
The t shirt picture reminds me of one I saw recently
My thighs touch so I'm halfway to being a mermaid. Who's winning now?
You are a kind soul indeed !

I posted so late yesterday that the only thing between then and now is sleep and my idiot neighbor chainsawing a tree at 8am when I wanted to sleep in!
It's going to be another gorgeous day here. I do have a list of "to dos" that include getting my tax stuff together, but I'm not motivated at all. I just want to read and sit outside...
So glad you're enjoying your home away from home, Diane!
The sun is shining, low 30s. Probably good it's not super warm, because all this snow melting has caused flooding. Slower melt is best.
In a few minutes I'm going to drive to Wisconsin (a bit over an hour) to go have lunch with my son. Sadly, dear husband has to work. But I've got to see my boy, it's been awhile :) I love being able to do this, daughter went college in Chicago, so a seven hour drive made a quick lunch date kind of impossible. Anyhow, I'll be blasting the Hamilton soundtrack like the good nerd I am, and dreaming of Florida in 8 days!
Good day all! Happy Birthday, Liz! And, Diane, your pictures are soooo lovely as is the obvious pleasure you are having in that special restorative haven. Kayak away.
Have been flitting and floating through the days' past posts. I do have a legitimate excuse for my absence- Diane S was absolutely correct- but only in part--those kids that trapped me in the library- ALIENS who transported me via a mysterious albeit exciting bookishblackhole to the planet of the Blueandwhite Polka Dot Bunny creatures. I have very little memory of what all transpired there by way of nefarious experiments and Heckle and Jeckle experiences. Unfortunately, while there I was fed exclusively on whatever the hell they could find there. Being the rabbit planet it is (we've all studied the environment in school, so I know you know...) slider food is abundantly available. I shudder to think what may have become of my self had DH, not considerating his own life and limb, not reached down into the kitchen sink- disposal engaged- and pulled my sorry ass back to planet Earth.
True story (sort of)
I fully intend to return, well armed, and beat the **** out of those creepy things.
The sun is shining and there is a turkey in the oven. Have a wonderful spring is around the corner no matter what it looks like outside kind-o-day. Smiles all around!
