Below zero to teens the last several days, cloudy and windy. DD, if I wasn't heading south tomorrow, I would be hunkering down in bed too. I remember days full of parent teacher conferences. Hopefully the successful team approaches outweigh the irresponsible parents in the end. When I taught high school SPED, a lot of my efforts seemed to be helping kids rise above how they were being raised, often with a lack of goals, values, and belief in themselves. The point at which I could identify who those kids were quickly shifted downwards to kindergarten registration, which is why I spent my last years as a building administrator at the primary level. Early intervention with parents and families certainly is needed well before starting school !

Seeking sun, warmth, the ocean and a kayak !! The dogs will love it too !!

Good Thursday!

There is less snot in my world today. The rain is supposed to let up for the rest of the week and weekend, though it's forecast to be cloudy on and off. I'm looking forward to some sporadic sunshine!

Weight is stable. I'm having some issues getting full on into the KETO thing. I think mainly because having been sick I have not had a chance to stock the house with go to KETO foods. I will make a concerted effort to get that done this weekend.

I had a good total body workout last evening. My trainer was a no show, so I went ahead and designed a full body workout from the lower body on up. I kept the aerobic aspect low since I still have congestion in my bronchia.

We went out to grab some dinner after Ron's Ash Wednesday service. He had fish and chips and slaw. I had a grilled chicken breast with roasted corn and cilantro salsa and chimichuri sauce. There was a base of rice, of which I had a little, but I ate mostly the chicken and corn. Not exactly Keto, but in the right direction. For me this is turning out to be baby steps transitioning.

Hoping to see Ann posting soon. Liz, too. I also know people move on and away from the board. But I do hope their hiatus from our board is temporary.

Weight?

No good deed goes unpunished... yesterday afternoon, one of my million smoke detectors started beeping. Fergus finds the noise REALLY upsetting - like he'll be clinging to me and panting or outside hiding in the bushes for hours. So I thought, daylight savings is coming up, I'll change out all the batteries and that will be the only one to beep this year!

The last one I changed (not the original beeper) decided it doesn't like the brand new battery and starts beeping itself. I blow it out with compressed air, change the battery again, follow reset instructions online. Beeping. Now it's 8:30pm, Fergus is beside himself hiding in the bushes in the dark/rain and I can't get this thing to shut up and I can't get it unplugged from the wall even with YouTube instructions. My friend is staying with me and figures out how to switch off the breaker for the smoke detectors. Of course, now we'll all burn to death in the middle of the night. I keep waking up thinking I'm hearing beeping, but it's my brain messing with me. I go to Home Depot this AM to buy a new smoke detector and while it's the same brand and looks the same, they got bought out, so the ceiling plate and connector doesn't match. Now I have to figure out how to install this new one. Times like this I really wish I had a handy husband...

I need to go watch some baby goats in PJs...

Good heavens, I typed out a pithy response, and then hit submit. Turns out I must have typed it into report!!! So Cecily, I have reported your post, and my comment was, I hate those chores that end up leading to more chores. The moderators are going to be very confused by me.

Greetings Spring Seekers

It is spring like here today though breezy. 156 Today. I am getting an even later than usual start. Slept in late. No clue why but it feels good.

Yay OceanDiane soon you will be basking in warmth. I visualize that cabin picture and wish I could beam myself there even though where I am is comfortable.

You teachers deserve medals for parent teacher conferences. Bad parents probably had bad parents themselves. Yet I have known a number of people who had lousy childhoods who grew up to be good parents and good people. I think they somehow were born with an empathy gene that their parents lacked. Good teachers are so priceless. And somewhat rare. I heard a local newscaster say "orientated" the other day. Both DH and I screamed.

Cecily I hear you on the smoke alarms. We used to have one that would randomly kick off at 1am. It was ants crawling in the wall setting them off!! Ants are bad in our area and we now have our house sprayed on the outside monthly with some chrysanthemum oil stuff. Speaking of beeping, my husband has these uninterruptible power source batteries to protect his extensive electronics. One of them is going bad and once per hour it beeps. He has a new one so I don't know why the old one is there still. I just shut the door.

I heard an NPR review of a book called Women Rowing North. Written by a psychologist, its about dealing with the issues of aging in a positive way. Ordered it. This author mentioned in the interview she has issues with her hands as do it, so I thought it might be worth a read. Will report.

Shrimp and broccoli last night. I am loving the roasted veggies off the deli unit at the health food store. Craving veggies but hate cutting them up. The deli ones are so good. Probably slathered in olive oil but that's ok.

DH is having lunch at the favorite Italian place so he will bring home a small veggie pizza minus his lunch. I so love pizza - even more than chocolate.

Good for you Peps for loosing pounds and snot. And doing your own workout.

Take care all. Time to be doorman and valet to dogs. Diane S

Morning All - TGIF - end of the working week for me and Monday is a holiday so that will be nice. DH is driving up tonight after work with the puppies - have missed them all. Should be here around 7pm so I plan to make a nice dinner of Salmon n Salad - maybe roast veg n spinach salad with fetta as I havent started Keto

Weight is nasty and an all time high - 178.2 UGGGGG I need to pull myself out of this funk

Not much on for today - just work and some cleaning around here. Did all the watering at my SIL last night again - so should just have to collect eggs, pick veggies and lock up chooks/ducks tonight. We are starting the fencing this weekend so that will be hard work - might help to drop some weight. Likely start cementing the concrete posts in tommorrow and continue to dig holes for the rest. It will take weeks and weeks as its a big area but focusing on one side so when the cows calve we have lots of feed for them. Front paddocks have long grass in them as we didnt cut for hay this year.

Another task for the weekend while DH is here is to start finalising our trip to States. Need to start booking stuff. Very exciting :)

Hope you all have a wonderful day/evening

Shirley

Diane Ocean, Have a safe trip down south, and soak it up for me once you're there!

Snow predictions for my area, starting Saturday morning, ending Sunday: 8-12 inches of the wet heavy stuff. I went to Costco and I have a roasted chicken in my possession, so I'll be fine!! :) Perhaps I should venture out again to buy a bottle of rum. Or two.
