Weight 127.2, calories 975.

Hooefully we make it to Sarasota today. The weather is supposed to be great, but DH has to successfully make it to daycare. He has a good time there but definitely doesn't like the idea of going on a regular basis. We are trying to convince him that it paves the way for DSD's visit this weekend.

I woke up last night remembering that I should be paying bills today (the last day of the month). Maybe when we get back (maybe tomorrow)?

Pray for daycare! Have a thoughtful Thursday!

Hello from my yoga mat,

I'm trying to spend less time on the sitting (or laying!) on the sofa. I don'****ch much tv but boy do I stare at this screen.

Cecily, I am so glad that wasn't an IUD failure even tho your original walked out on you. But who could blame it once it got a look at Brazil? It jumped ship and is now chillin' in Rio.

Liz, I don't call your comments about DH "ranting." It is, unfortunately (gross understatement,) your life. I hope you continue to use your executive powers to seek balance for yourself. I see you working the positives by creating beautiful homes, enjoying family/friends and nature. So many caregivers become consumed. But boy, it takes work to keep the positives with DH's fast decline.

When I weighed at a doctor's appt yesterday I DGAF and kept on my booties and sweater. I even had my boobs on. TF cares.

Gotta run (now that my lower back and hamstrings are stretched)

Live shameless,

Shel

PS, I finalized my "spring break" plans for the last 2 weeks of March. The first week will be in Iowa where temps are predicted to be 30 degrees below average.(I love my Iowa peeps) When I get back to Seattle, I will immediately head down the coast with a destination of Trinidad, home to one of DianeS's galleries (and the fresh fudge sign). DianeS, I'm really hoping to meet Tesla and Chip. Perhaps a doggie walk? I will be missing mine.

Liz, positive vibes your way for smooth daycare transition. I have lots of feels activated and percolating regarding posts last few days... have to work some thoughts through. Diane, I hope you are safe. The weather out there sounds horrid. I had a massage yesterday, as the snow was beginning. Round one of snow removal before bed, then we were supposed to get a bit more as it wound down. Woke up to another 3-4" this morning... but it is pretty and it isn't damaging our home. Eight more sleeps here until our big adventure, then I'll be going to NYC to spend the weekend with my daughter and watch her run a half marathon which starts and ends in Central Park, so I'll have lots to do while I wait. The least I can do is walk for two hours !

Counting down your days to warmth with you!

It's a frozen tundra outside. I rather like it. I'm so glad to have winter. Kind of wish we had more pronounced seasons but then again, perhaps I like it because we get such a small dose.

Weight was high today but I drank lots of water.

DH's old company is indeed having layoffs again. I guess on the bright side it makes me feel better that he's not there--it's been less than a year of hell and uncertainty and what's the real reward? Getting to stay and no package and waiting for the other shoe to drop again? But it sure makes me heartsick for our friends. This place used to be so wonderful and now it's a depressing little shell of what it once was.

So many thoughts re weight yesterday. I think I need to start reeling it in. Enough "vacation".

I like winter for the same reason - we get so little of it!

I'm going with you like winter because of the small dose size. Although there are die hard Minnesotans who love winter, so maybe you would too. I, sadly, am not one of them. I actually love our hot, humid summers, but they are much too short for my taste.

Good morning dear friends!

The creeping crud of the elementary school has reached my classroom. The kids are dropping fast. Have three absent. Sadly, I am not immune. I went to bed with a scratchy throat and woke up with the same and a mild cough and bronchial muck. Took some DayQuil and off I went. Sent one kiddo home with a 102.4 temp. this morning. Several others are fading fast!

Shel, DGAF.... Took me a minute! Once I figured it out, I love it! Still working on TF. I'm so bad with these acronyms. LOL!

Liz, best of luck getting DH in daycare today. I like how you are linking it to a future reward. We do that at school with kids. It's good behavior mod. But, I know it's sad that you have to resort to that kind of a strategy.

Ann posted a stunning picture of her group at a Mardi Gras ball. Such elegant folks those upper crust NOLA people!

Diane O., I'm eager to read your musings about the posts over the past few days, should you choose to comment. I love your thoughts on our conversations about the deep stuff.

Miss150.... Noodle? Please enlighten me. I am completely smitten with your nickname. I'm glad you now can put a face to my dogs. But just so you know, Ella looks much more like a farm dog than a show dog currently. Her curly locks are quite charming!

Okay, food.... eating.... weight.... My trainer said something to me that made me just crumble yesterday. She is doing a 30 day cleanse type of thing. She is not allowed to have gluten, dairy, or coffee. At first she was told No Coffee. Her initial reaction to the dietician was, "I can't do that". Well, that got my trainer to thinking and she got upset with herself. So she went back and said, "Okay, I can do the no coffee thing." Dietician then added No Gluten. My trainer was fine with that. Then the dietician added the NO DAIRY rule and my trainer walked out again. She lives on cheese sticks and yogurt. She said, NO WAY to no dairy! Then she thought that she was selling herself short and that she could do anything for 30 days and she decided that she would do the cleanse after all. As a trainer she feels that she needs to walk the walk and look the look. Remember she is a former SMO, recovering alcoholic and single mom of 3 (now adult kids). She realized that she was the only one standing in her way to do this cleanse thing. Now, she is modifying it greatly because she exercises so strenuously, but she is adhering to the 3 main principals of No Coffee, No Gluten, and No Dairy. She realized the only person who thought she couldn't do it was she herself.

That takes me to the Keto Quickstart. I am the one who is standing in my way. I am scared ****less to give up my friend, the Carbo-Sugar Man! Yet, I remember I lived without him post VSG for months and months. I am going to make the commitment to, as the author puts it, ease into Keto. I am feeling paralyzed and terrified by the prospect, but I am going to do it for 30 days. I have done much, much harder things in my life. I have quit drinking and I have quit smoking. I can go Keto for health reasons and it does not need to be "forever".

The author says that once fat adaption has become the norm for one's body, it is not too difficult to slip in and out of ketosis and keep your body in fat burning mode. I talked with my trainer about my exercise level (low, moderate, intense). She said that the level I work at is intense. Given that, I may have to add more carbs on workout days, but there is room in the Keto Quickstart plan for that. I will have to play it by ear and see how the work outs go.

As for workouts: My workout schedule with the trainer has changed and I now have back to back workouts with her on Tuesday and Wednesday. I am sore from my shoulders down to my hamstrings. It's the good kind of sore, but man... I am proud of myself for a few new milestones. I am chest pressing upwards of 180 pounds now (90 each side) on a Hammer Strength machine. I have been working on doing TRX moves, too, and can now do 3 sets of 12 full body weight pull ups and can do full body weight bicep curls at a roughly 45 degree angle. Strength training is doing so much good for my mental state and my outlook regarding my current weight.

Wishing everyone here a productive, rewarding day!

The author's contention once you're fat adapted you can have some carbs, but move easily back to fat burning makes intuitive sense to me. When I was initially losing post surgery, I was low carb, because if I met my protein goals, there was no room for anything else. Once I could eat more volume, I actually wanted to add fruit and veggies. I was clearly in fat burning mode, I lost over a hundred pounds. I feel like this year of fat burning changed my metabolism, and I could have an occasional indulgence, and miracles of miracles, I could be SATISFIED with one serving. The carb monster slept peacefully. But little by little the monster woke up, and my feeling of satisfaction, of control disappeared. I'm hoping to lose regain, but I am hoping that becoming "fat adapted" will bring back a better sense of control.

I had not thought of that - the sense of control improving with fat adaption! However, it does make sense. Perhaps that is the reason the cravings go away. The body gets used to not having the sweets/carbs, functions with more ease and normalcy as it is meant to, and the need for dopamine diminishes. Thanks for your perspective!
