High winds remained through sunset last night. There was no way to shovel with snow devils blowing. This morning, three quarters of our driveway has blown clear and the remaining quarter is hard backed drifts we must get to today before another 4-6" of fresh snow tonight. All I wanted for breakfast was a piece of buttered toast, so that's what I had. I'll do a protein bar mid-morning. BB and Peps, I've enjoyed your snacking conversation. Three small meals and a healthy protein forward snack work best for my sleeve. I 've been successful so far not eating in the evening after dinner, which would be a very slippery slope for me, and I typically fast 12+ hours between dinner and breakfast. For a while, we tried to eat our main meal at noon and a light supper in the evening, which my body seems to prefer. Somehow we got away from that this winter... mmm. I also feel the use of my bread machine coming to a recess. I've only started the Keto book, but the writing is on the wall for me with grains, which have been slowly creeping back in, as has Edy's Slow Churned ice cream. Two squares of good dark chocolate used to fill the need just fine. Work in progress it is !!

Interesting discussion re snacking. I'm too old to have been allowed snacks in school :D. In fact, I wasn't aware that was even done now! It seems like in gradeschool lunch came pretty early but I distinctly remember being RAVENOUS for lunch in middle and highschool when "C" lunch wouldn't come until like after 1:30.
I also ALWAYS ate an after-school snack. I'd usually be at my grandparents and while my snacks weren't the healthiest (probably the healthiest I'd get might be homemade pudding with bananas!), I'd argue that almost no teen is eating a "healthy" snack.
But you're right--it's more of a programmed thing, seems to me. My grandparents generation never snacked. It was almost a sin to eat outside of meals. I think my grandmother said sometimes fruit was available. For the most part these boundaries appeal to me. My husband is also pretty strict about not snacking. And he save so many more calories for the meals this way. The only thing that scares me is a) being hungry (I have a phobia of hunger, especially after WLS) and b) overcompensating for not snacking during mealtime/potentially stretching my sleeve.
Obviously right now is not the time I'm looking into changing things, but in the future.
Baby steps. My first step might be to establish snack times or snack boundaries. Because honestly right now I'm not even sure I'd say that I'm snacking. Snacking sounds too intentional. I'd say I'm grazing. I'd also like to limit my options to healthy ones. Like oh you're hungry? Cool, here's some string cheese. Oh string cheese isn't what you wanted? Guess you aren't truly hungry!
Today I think I'll take my glucose tolerance test (testing for gestational diabetes). Last time I was SCARED of it because a) I tdidn't want GD, and b) I do terribly with sugary drinks post vsg. But alas I passed with flying colors. I actually think my body handles sugar better with a baby haha! It also looks like the next 7 days is going to be very much colder so perhaps I should bite the bullet and get to the grocery store today.
Prepared to be amazed at the amazing volume of treats given to Becca at school.
I understand birthday treats but they were almost always giant and it seemed like parents were competing for the most caloric/sugary item possible....all organic and frequently gluten free! Because, you know, our kids deserve the best.

So here that is apparently still the trend--from "muffins with mom" to "donuts with dad" to Valentine's parties to "spring" parties (aka Easter), to monthly birthday parties. However in Texas my sister's kids were disallowed from having Valentine's parties because of all the dietary restrictions. Which kind of feels like missing out. When I was a kid there were only two types of dietary restrictions that I remember hearing about: peanut allergy and type 1 diabetes.
I've looked over the Fed food program and the daycare's corresponding menu. Props to them, because honestly Becca might learn to eat better with their variety! That being said, if there's one thing I (naively?) believe, it's that no kid must be picky. My stepkids are still pretty terrible eaters at 20 and 25. My nieces are the absolute worst (refusing even things like the wrong-shaped pasta or chicken nuggets). I love food, a rainbow of food, and am hopeful Becca will learn to love it to. Though admittedly there are already nights where I throw in the towel and give her lunchmeat or nuggets. But I keep TRYING the veggies. It's a very long road we have to travel :)
Speaking of overdoing for kids...um yeah, so there. Becca's first birthday is in a couple weeks and I went from "the kids don't care and let's keep it small and low key so the people there can enjoy" to 50 invited (hoping a lot won't come to a baby birthday!) and fancy cake. Oops. But I do love to throw a good themed party, so there's that. I also figure this birthday is for me. I don't plan on throwing another big birthday until she's at least 5...and then it'll be for her.
First birthdays and the parties that accompany those are always for the parents. Everyone knows it, and it's totally okay! 21 years ago my brother and SIL threw a ginormous party for their 1 year old son. They had a games for the babies, but it was really a get together for the parents to ogle and ooh the babies. It was a lot fun. The other thing they did was make it a no present event. Of course, a few people brought little token gifts, but I thought it was nice that presents were not expected because, frankly, the kid wouldn't be able to appreciate the gifts.
I totally agree on that but because my invitation I ordered was kind of a standard form thing, I totally forgot to put no presents please. Because in all honesty, she doesn't need it and will be totally overwhelmed. And so will mama. But now I guess I have to leave it be? Because there could be that awkward situation of trying to reach out to people and tell them no presents, but then some do bring and the ones who didn't feel bad? Ack!
Also, her birthday party is on DST. rich tells me that people only look at their phones anymore, which automatically resets. And I'm over here still writing "2018". Sooooo....let's just hope they take the "don't be late for a very important date" part of the invite to heart :)

Morning, all- snackers and nonsnackers alike! BB, I am, at least your parents' age, if not your g-parents, and I must have missed that no snacking ever memo because I ate when ever and whatever I could get my hands on!
Yesterday I brought home some lovely baby carrots to test out- never got to them as Mr. Whipple whooped up on me prior to trying them (maybe it was a warning from above...). Whoo'd a thunk that of all treats in the world, the one thing I am most longing to try would be the lowly crispy carrot?
Another nice, and sunny day to be had in SEKansas.
Sending well wishes and Hugs to all---eat a carrot stick for me- PLEASE!
