Weight 125.4, calories 1576. Down 2 with calories up. Always weird.
So Keto: I think it is mostly what I usually eat when following my plans except with substantially higher fat. Think it is worth a shot as I do find that fats help in quelling my craving for carbs
Devon, DH has been on Finisteride and Tamsulosin for years (at the max dose). BPH runs in his family. If he didn't have Alzheimer's, we might be seeing a urologist about surgery, but with his mental state that doesn't make sense. I do wonder how much they are helping. He doesn't go to the bathroom a lot during the day -- only at night (every 1-2 hours), but I can't tell how much of that getting up is the dementia vs truly needing to use the bathroom. His level of baldness never changed, btw (monk type bald spot).
I am planning in having some serious conversations with DH doctors about what drugs to continue and which to stop. There are a lot going down the gullet and I'm not really sure whether any of them have a true benefit at this point other than the mood improving ones. Lengthening his life is not really a goal now. Sounds difficult to say, but that's the truth once they get to the point DH is at. He really isn't even remotely the person he used to be and what might be left deep down is rapidly disappearing.
So this is how the daycare happened: I tried to calmly explain to DH (repeating it multiple times in the hope that it would sink in) that I needed a break and he needed more stimulation. And that if daycare wasn't going to work, he would have to move to assisted living as I can't do this fulltime. That it wasn't my plan to do that right now as I thought the daycare would be good for him and give me the break I need. So he asked if he could go that day! I suggested the next day as I had to call in advance but he wanted to go right away. So I figured I better strike while the iron was hot, called and they had room! For now he is signed up for Tuesday's and Thursday's. I think we need it to be a routine.
He was exhausted last night btw, so that is something to keep in mind on those days.
SIL and I went to the beach in Boca Grande. So beautiful with a lovely breeze we wouldn't have had at our park. She wanted to go for drinks - I didn't.
Have a free Friday!

Bonnie... interesting back story on your article ! I agree with Cecily, it seems that you should have seen the final copy before it was published. Liz, so proud of you for beginning to define boundaries for when assisted living will become necessary. So hard, but so essential ! I'm just barely into the Keto book, but it helps me see how much Panko, grains, breads have begun to work their way back in. I don't feel the need for a hard reset at this point, but another area to be more mindful, and perhaps try some new recipes. Damned breadmaker !
Ann, where are you ? Missing your voice in our day !! Dave, too long for you too !!

Good morning,
Liz, so glad that DH was able to see the value of the daycare and you got to go the the beach!
B150, I too, think it is weird they didn't pass the final draft past you. Good for all of you sharing your stories. It helps others move forward, I think. BB, I have been thinking about you and how QUICK that little one is going to be here. Wow, time flies.
Speaking of time, I have to get a move on. Shel

It's my two year Surgiversary! Exactly 10 pounds more than last year, but I didn't have any muscle then. So I actually think I look better now. But still would like to be between 165 and 170.
Weight 173.8 argh. So much salt. And salty sunflower seeds. May need to avoid buying those.
The hike didn't happen yesterday. It was freezing! Nearly literally. Snow all around here in places it hasn't snowed in decades, and the hills that I've rarely seen with snow are covered still. Pretty!
Happy Friday to all!
Happy Surgiversary! You've done great - I wish I had the determination you have to get so fit!

Happy Surgiversary! You do look great :) Maybe the snow melt will keep those flowers coming. Mother Nature is full of transformations.

Good morning and a fun Friday to all!
I echo Diane O's thought that it would be so nice to hear from Ann and David! We miss you two!
I started to read the Keto book last night, but did not get too far into it. I was tired and went to bed. Of course, I already know that I am eating far too many refined carbs. My b'day weekend got me off track and I have yet to put myself back on a rigid track to decrease the carbs. What I really liked right away was her stance on how Keto can work. She does not seem to promote it as a hard and fast lifestyle, but rather a style of eating that can be used as a reset, a method to help one drop a few pounds, to help reduces refined carbs and sugar in the diet, etc... I like her attitude of flexibility.
I have two days filled with food events. We have a family dinner tonight to belatedly celebrate my b'day. My brother was on a cruise from the 11th to the 20th, so he and my dad want to go out tonight. Then I have a club luncheon tomorrow and a dinner honoring my father for his years of service as a board of director for our Credit Union. (Pops decided that with his 90th birthday approaching it was time to retire from the board after some 20+ years as a trustee. Funny thing is he's still perfectly capable to remain on the board, but he's tired of it and the obligation. I like to see him letting go of some of the work he's been holding on to for years. This last year he also gave up being the treasurer of the San Francisco Opera Guild, which he had been doing for 15 years, I think. ) So, as stereotypically diet-ish as this sounds, I am hoping to get back on track on Sunday, do some food prep and be ready for the week.
Sugar is really a bit like booze and cigarettes for me. Sad... Once I get started, it's hard to break the cycle. I know it's not beneficial. I know what happens when I start in. Yet, I still think that MAYBE this time I will control the intake. If that doesn't sound like an addict.....
I must test myself on pushups today. I didn't get around to it yesterday, but my curiosity is piqued, so I must know! LOL! Whatever it is, I know it will only push me to be able to do 40 in a row! LOL! I do have a competitive streak.
The sky is blue. The air is crisp (mid 40s). The flowering plums are beginning to bud and my daffodils are in their full glory. Spring is coming to my area of CA. Makes me happy!
Cecily referenced a similar story (based on a study, I think but I really don't remember) of getting up with no hands also being an indicator. I have already picked up from work out stories that you can do that, too. You might live to a million.
Do you ever do Turkish Get Ups? I don't like them but wish I were better at them. I use just a wee bit of weight or I wouldn't be able to complete even one. They are on my warm up plan today and I am already dreading.
By the way, I don't hear stereotypically diet-ish talk in your post. I do see 3 meals causing outsized angst that I absolutely recognize to the point where I feel it in my empathetic core. Or, perhaps I am projecting LOL
I have never been to an opera. I must correct that.

Greetings Great Ones
156.5 today. Hopefully due to salty bacon dinner and PPP (poor potty performance). Its sunny and calm and and mood lifting!
Liz, so glad DH went to the day care and seemed to understand your predicament. No doubt you will have that conversation again and again but so glad it worked out. Hope you had a nice relaxing day.
And yeah, Ann and Dave check in if you can. We miss you. Ditto Joey and others who are AWOL.
Bonnie150 I loved your article. Yeah its odd that OH didn't communicate better but it was well done. OH asked me years ago to feature me - I think by making an article about my blog page - and I asked them some questions about could I review it before publishing and what would it be etc. They never answered. So that's their way. I think they don't like spending much time.
DH saw his surgeon yesterday who thinks DH is doing well and the hernia is fixed. I think DH had to hear that from the surgeon so he has now decided he is recovering well also. He likes to be coddled and so be it. Hoping I can get him to walk Tesla again as she is a wild child.
I found a taker for the icky chocolate. But giving it away made me want to go find some good chocolate. Go figure. I had to stop at the bank and they have this dangerous candy jar and I ate 3 little Dove bites. Fortunately the gallery banks have yucky candy or none at all.
I received an email from friends who were neighbors to my mom. They finally met the purchasers of my mom's house which had been empty for years and was a complete mess. They got a tour and said the house had been fixed up beautifully while keeping the same footprint. It made me feel good to know that my childhood home, a unique mid century that my parents designed and built, is once again inhabited and loved. I hope to see it one day.
Meanwhile, time for more coffee in my sunny purple house! Diane S
