VSG Maintenance Group
02/19/19, Tuesday
I ordered Cecily's Keto Book last night. I figured I might as well read it along with everyone else. Not sure it will be right for me, but I'm always willing to learn what might work for me.
I am down a pound from yesterday. I had more water yesterday and worked up a sweat cleaning.
I am disenchanted with having to work so hard on meal prep with the program I have been following. It's the breakfast more than anything. I am not a morning person and have had my morning timed down to the minute for the past 20 years. Adding a labor intensive smoothie into the routine has been messing me up. I tried an egg breakfast last week along with a smaller smoothie, but it was too much food, so it ended up being 2 meals and too close to my lunch time. That in turn made lunch to be too much and so one. So, today I had my post VSG shake and a piece of sprouted bread with PB. That worked much better for timing and in satisfaction. I'm guessing sprouted grain bread is not part of a KETO diet. LOL! Drat!
Had a see food trigger moment. Forgot I had put a bunch of cookies in my little classroom fridge from the Valentine party. Meant to throw them out before I left on Thursday, but forgot. ACK!!!!! Feed me, Seymour! Noooooooo!
Training session today and some more reflection on healthy eating.
Kind of me in a nutshell these days- exercise and eating behavior examination.
The bread might be part of your Keto diet, the author of Keto Quick Start allows for flexibility. I like her approach, although she recommends 30 net grams of carbs, she even states if you are eating 100 grams you are still eating much lower carb than most people. She also does not think that everyone needs to spend their entire life eating her recommended 30 net grams a day, and readily admits she doesn't follow that guideline every day. She is a strong proponent of whole foods, which is a sensible option for anyone to embrace. The book is a quick read and well organized.
My breakfast takes 3 minutes: 1 egg (or 1/4 C eggbeaters), 1/2 C cottage cheese, 1 slice Canadian Bacon cut into small pieces. Put in micro for 2.5 minutes and eat (basically scrambled eggs with bacon and melted cheese): 140 calories, 23 G protein, 3 g fat. Obviously it could be done with more fatty cheese or more meat...
I have been eating this almost from the beginning (the meat was added later). It always fills me up. When I worked I put it in a small Pyrex container the night before and cooked it at the office.

Greetings Adults
156. Whaaaaa, its no fun being an adult and worrying about weight, though as a child I worried about it. No fun with the legal stuff DianeO. I wish you a speedy solution with it. Amazing how health insurance can rule our lives. So ridiculous.
Liz sounds like you are approaching some hard decisions about your DH. I had to make them for my mom and had a number of clients who did the same. You are lucky to have an amazing family and also a deep well of inner strength. Hope you have a good day at the beach.
Hey Shel, great snow shoe pictures. Glad you got DD to go along. Hope she goes again.
Sorry you lost most of the lemon tree Shirley. Maybe plant some new ones? I think we can grow meyer lemons up here but that's about it. I have a brown thumb (from sticking it in jars of peanut butter).
Hey Peps, I am also so not a morning person. Jimmy Dean makes these breakfast Fritattas that are egg based and quite good. Sort of like something from the Eggface page.
Well, Scrabble this afternoon and a few errands. I so love being retired. Diane S
I have crumbly teeth, always have. My parents describe the formula I drank: Karo Syrup, milk and vitamin drops. Ha no wonder I was obese. And I'm sure they propped my bottle or sent me to bed with one, as they were young, stressed, poor (my Dad was in Veterinarian School) and didn't know any better. Last spring I had to have two molars pulled (one of them already had a root canal and a crown, oh the humanity!) and I got the bid for two implants. It's over $10,000! Insurance doesn't cover implants, just a partial denture. Now I am rich in many things, but I simply cannot devote that much of our limited treasure to two teeth. Sigh. My dentist and I just consulted, and he said one would be immeasurably better than none, so he's sending a new referral to the oral surgeon. I looked up the cost in Canada, since we're so close, and it didn't seem to be too much cheaper. I have a dear ex-pat friend in Mexico City, maybe I should explore medical tourism ...

Weight 173.2 TMI, but potty time was not happening before I had to leave for my hike! I suspect the gain will vanish tomorrow.
I did the Tuesday morning hike up a ridge and back for 8 miles, 15,800 steps, 30 flights of stairs, and 962 calories. And it was really beautiful. All our rain is making for a good wildflower display! A compilation of the view from the top toward the ocean and Catalina island (the other way is very snowy mountains, but I didn't get a shot of that), poppies on the side of the hill, and a patch up close:
I got the ingredients to make a Matcha Chia N'Oatmeal for tomorrow's breakfast (the N' indicating it contains no oatmeal). Could be great, could be dreadful. Will report back on my findings.
Now I'm being stared at by my 4-footed roommate who wants a walk 10 minutes ago.
Wishing you all a good day!
