Greetings My Pets
155.5 today. Last night's dinner was a power bowl (or part of one - can't eat a whole one). DH brought home chili from lunch so that's what he ate, leaving me to free forage. He is off today to fix a computer issue for a friend but he tires easily so we will see how that goes. He still has pain and no more vicodin so toughing it out with Advil.
The sun is shining here and the dogs are basking in it. They sure know how to live.
Liz I am so thrilled for you that the day care worked out. And it really is good for your DH too to keep occupied and engaged. Hoping you can find the same in MA.
Shirley sorry you had a stressful time. Yeah stress=eating for many of us. And one never stress eats on broccoli and broiled fish. Always sugar and carbs. Hope it passes and you can enjoy the farm.
Peps I am so sorry for what Ron is going through. None of the medical options sound good. I know someone with prostate issues who uses single use catheters and finds great relief in that. I was hoping Ron would have a similar option. You were right to get him a treat and card. Food is not always medicine but once in awhile its the right thing. (and good for you for getting him a piece and not a whole cake).
Ann you are rocking' the NOLA experience. Grilled oysters! Outstanding.
Yep Cecily, you need some real food. We do too. Today might be the day for the big grocery store trip complete with large grocery cart rather than my usual drive by the health food store with a hand basket.
DiamondD, Bonnie150 and others in the midwest, I feel your pain in the winter weather. Hope it ends soon. There will be snow here in the next day or so but inland at 500+ elevation. We are lucky to live at 175 feet - out of the snow and also out of the tsunami zone. Stay warm and be safe.
Studio time today after adventures in grocery shopping. I finally have the kitchen table cleared off and took lots of paper and newspaper to the recycle. Liberating. Only about two more tons to go. Meanwhile, more coffee. Diane S
Happy Friday to one and all!
Weight is same as yesterday. Food is on track. There is something comforting in my food routine. However, I did bail on my smoothie today and last night made an omelet of a single egg, with extra egg whites, low fat turkey sausage, sautéed spinach, a TBS of shredded Mexican cheese, topped with a TBS of spicy avocado salsa. I heated it this morning. Yum!
So proud of one of my students.... Showed a short video on sneaking candy into class yesterday as a prompt for an on demand writing. This morning one of my girls followed through and created several sneaky methods of getting candy into class and did it! I could not have been more proud of her. I love that type of initiative. She removed a staple label from a box and put it on a match box and filled the box with candy. Then she took out the insides of a marker, washed it, put in a stopper for the bottom and filled the empty marker with candy. This was all carried into class in her pencil box.
Thanks for the supportive words regarding yesterday's post. I very much appreciate it. Ron seemed to be in much better spirits yesterday, though a little short in patience. Understandable, so I just went with it. He is ostriching. I am researching.
I learned something about my own mild prostate enlargement, too! Shel, feel free to chime in on this one! At the same time I had VSG I stopped taking Propecia for hair loss. Propecia is brand name for Finesteride. Finesteride is a med that helps shrink the prostate with the added benefit of slowing male pattern baldness. I started having some changes in my urination flow shortly after VSG. I thought it was from the catheter. I talked to my doctor about it. Funny that neither the doc nor I thought about my stopping the finesteride as the culprit. I'm thinking of asking him to put me back on. I am not particularly fond of the weakened flow and having to get up nightly to pee. LOL!
Have a couple of clients this weekend, but mostly have the weekend to get things done around the house. I am not meeting my goal of being a dedicated list maker. I do need to focus on that aspect of life. Unlike Diane O and Bonnie150, I am a born procrastinator. Why do today what can be easily done tomorrow? To be honest, that personal philosophy only applies to things I consider dubious, laborious, and drudgery - paying bills and balancing a check book immediately come to mind!
Oh, my legs are still SORE from Wednesday's workout. I think it's going to be chest and shoulders and ab kind of day today for the gym.
So looking forward to a little extra sleep tomorrow, too!
i had no idea that Propecia had that effect on urination! I will remember that.

Isn't it odd to age into medical issues that were once unfathomable?
Personally, I wouldn't want my sleep disrupted so would want that treated. It will be interesting to see how your doctor handles the request. The guideline would usually use a different class of drug first (by the way, those drugs improve blood pressure, too). But guidelines as just guidelines....not hard and fast rules. Also, propecia strength vs proscar strength? So interesting! (And, has your prostate been diagnosed as enlarged?)
But, since you asked for thoughts, I can no longer hold back that atenolol as mono therapy treatment for blood pressure is so 15 years ago. I have been hoping that 1) you are on another bp med, too, that IS 1st line treatment then atenolol is (sort of) ok as an add on. and 2) I know that eventually your bp will drop with weightloss (go you! you are doing so well!!!) and maybe you won't need meds anyway. Beta-blockers are now 4th or 5th line and of the beta blockers, atenolol, in particular, is not favored.
And, just in case you are wondering, the drugs that treat both night time urination and blood pressure aren't 1st/2nd/3rd line for bp either. But, very useful as add-on for someone who is already on 1st line BP med AND has nighttime urination.
This seems over personal. Eek. Don't feel you have to answer/explain anything....it is ONLY GENERIC INFORMATION.
Boy, all those words but honestly that is just putting a kid's puzzle together compared to Ron's choices. Eat cake, indeed! You are a good person to recognize that sometimes cake is good.

Go! Tell me all! Not too personal at all. This type of stuff doesn't bother me one way or another.
I would love to have the information with unbridled frankness. Even with the atenolol, my bp is just right at acceptable. I personally would rather it was better than just under the wire - even if it is for only several months. My guess is that with Kaiser the rule of thumb is take the least costly route first to see if it works. You know they are all about keeping costs low.
Yes, diagnosed with enlarged prostate (two separate digital exams). However, doc said it's not grotesquely enlarged - normal for a guy my age.
IF you would like to take this "off line", you've got my email still, right?
However, feel free to share away. I LOVE this stuff and the more info I have to present my case to my doc, the better it is. I have learned that there is no better advocate for my health than myself!
