Weight 125, calories 1023. Calories okay but not necessarily for weight loss. No foods off plan anyway.

Yesterday became a bad day though I was in a good place in the mid-afternoon after spending time at the pool, soaking up sun and getting cleaned up. No dance, no sleep, difficult DH.

Hopefully he sleeps all day today.

Have a sunny Saturday.

Good morning!

Liz, hope you find peace and rest today, hopefully with sun and a pool.

Has anyone (Ann???) read or familiar with The Artist's Way ??? I could benefit from it but WHERE IS THE TIME? BB, what podcast was that? I'm always looking for podcasts.

Peps, LOL about forgetting that we were obese. It makes me wonder about me thinking that my thin friends have it easy. But, overall....keep it up! Maybe that magical thinking will tell the universe that I should be thin! (I wouldn't be adverse for you making vision board of ThinShel, prancing (safely) across the crevasse.)

But, in truth, I have never thought anything other than we are in the same boat....not different boats headed the same way but the exact same boat. We can change positions within the boat at any time. I don't see your position as a cautionary tale, either, by the way. You always belong in this group even tho you try to deep think your way out of it. Just stop it.

"Stop it" reminds me that no matter how many languages I hear in on the trail, there is something about the English "staaaahp it!" that must be said in Engli**** is so very funny to hear the whole family conversing in their language of origin except for kids yelling "stop it!" as they push and poke and look at each other.

By the way, my weight is at the very tip top from a crummy 2 weeks. Must dial it back in.

But, enough about that, let's talk retirement....Peps, you have been playing with your numbers, what about Ron? Does he have a plan for what his next act would look like? I am trying to figure out a next act...NOLA looks good but Ann is combining that with writing. You all seem so well rounded. (HA!)

B150, chime in sometime if you have a moment. Also, Shirl, give us a blast of Aussie sun! I agree with whoever said it....there is something wonderful about preparing your own food. As a kid, I just thought we were trying to save money. From a food standpoint, we were way ahead of the foodie culture to come.

Hope those who were freezing are doing better.....tho I think it is coming back? I can't keep track.

Shel

Hoo, boy!

Yes, I am familiar with The Artist's Way. I also know the author, Julia Cameron, who lived in Taos the ten years I lived there and whom I would NEVER (cough!) describe as The New York Times did in today's piece about her -- "a shy Midwesterner." Instead, words like "hard ass" and "my way or the highway" come to mind.

As you may imagine, writing communities like Taos and Santa Fe attract a lot of middle-aged women looking for new lives and someone to show them how to design and construct them. Enter Mother Superior Julia, who had a LOT of rules and structure to offer her acolytes.

Meoooow!!!

It's also quite possible that she's softened in the last twenty years. I certainly have.

I also acknowledge the value of her "morning pages" concept, which has been useful for me since the late 90s to exercise my writing muscles. Down here in NOLA, I do morning pages of automatic writing. However, I've never done any of the other exercises, worksheets or lists she requires of her serious students.

I knew you would know her! Someone else in the article also found value in in the morning pages concept, too, without reading the book. I will tuck that in my wishful thinking folder.

And just to show that Julia Cameron wasn't the only hard ass in Taos in the 90s, here are a couple of lines from a poem I wrote back then:

Title: Reading Tonight from Their New Novels

Chewing their sacrament of automatic writing,
they look like they could use a good steak and some dental work.

I'm not as proud of this as I was when I wrote it, but I still don't hate it. ;)

I wanted to travel in retirement and live in a different country/part of the US each winter (warmer areas obviously).

Today I am contemplating having someone stay with DH and going to our timeshare in Aruba alone in June (I have a lot of friends there). Based on the limitations I had last year and his recent issues I'm now thinking it isn't worth going with him (more trouble and expense than it is worth).

Liz, I like that you're considering and evaluating other approaches to retirement and DH's care-giving that could meet your own needs better and his needs too, compared to what y'all are doing now.

For me, imagining some of the wildest things I might do can loosen up my brain and help me see more things that are actually possible, which I couldn't envision earlier.

xoxoxo

It is amazing that we are already thinking about Aruba!

It will feel weird to travel solo but from my virtual window it benefits the both of you. I remember my mil's discomfort being away from her group home even though she said she wanted to come to our house, etc. It was just too much.
