February Finally! February 1, 2019

Good morning!

No weight today.

I continue to be very hungry, especially for carbs. And I have trouble separating legitimate excuses from garbage. Obviously I need more calories right now, and I can even be kind to myself about the cravings, but I think it's getting out of hand and I don't know how to stop!!

I was listening to a podcast about something totally unrelated to weightloss but I think there were some useful nuggets. Like one I've heard before is something to the effect of "A goal without a plan is simply a wish." There are so many "goals" I want to achieve but simply don't put forth the action--even just the plan. I like that coupled with the one I found the other day about only needing enough discipline to make a habit.

The other thing to come out of this podcast was the recommendation of "12 week year" and just in general the notion that our work fills the time we allot it. Isn't that true?! Now I don't know how applicable this can be to weightloss--but I do think there is some truth to not being overly lenient or too generic with your goals. Now I think this is hard for weight loss or maintenance in particular because I really believe your input does not so easily correspond with your output. How many of us have gone and worked out harder at the gym only to see a GAIN! That may be short-term, but there are just too many factors for "weight" to be a good metric at how well we are achieving our goals. And yet, I'm still most comfortable with that, hence why I pretty much weigh daily.

Any fun weekend plans? I'm going to try to get through work quickly today and hopefully pick up Becca early. We have some errands to run, ideally this afternoon. Those include looking at some nursery furniture as well as touring possible investment properties! This evening DH and I are going with stepkids to see Glass.

Minus eight this morning, but minimal wind chill. It's supposed to be 45 by Sunday ! Met my new cardiologist yesterday, and I really like him. He scheduled an echo cardiogram later this month to verify if my atrial valve is tricuspid (supposed to be) or bicuspid (last cardio said inconclusive) and the degree of my leak. Currently, I am not a candidate for TAVR valve replacement because I am not high enough risk. There is research coming out in March that may lead to approval of valve replacement via catherization (as opposed to open heart surgery, which I will not consider) for lower risk patients.

Booked our March Marsh Adventure !! I added two pictures to my OH photos, and will try to get one here. Kayaking every day will bring serenity to me !!! Sitting on the porch swing, rocking on those rockers, or napping in the hammock will keep me on the screened in porch when not out and about. The homes across the marsh are right on the ocean, and I can easily paddle to the beach in a kayak, at mid to high tide. Clams, crabs and fish allegedly abound off our private dock !!! We found a Vet who will receive our records from up here, and will be ready to see Atlas and Sadie if we run into issues. With Sadie's allergies and epi-pen, we have to plan ahead.

Lots of thoughtful, insightful posts in the last couple of days. Formulating a response after a bit more thought.

Sigh.... lovely.... you know me, I'm a sucker for the marshland. So glad you picked the inlet. It's so much prettier than just the beach and waves to me.

I don't even know what to say to this! I must get to know marshlands! (I think bugs and wet feet.....)

Rich wildlife! Birds, muskrats, turtles, deer, rabbits, foxes, coyotes, and yes, in SC (not sure about NC) alligators. I also love the plants - flowering reeds and grasses in the spring and summer. Water iris and water lily like things grow in the marshy inlets, too. It can be really, really beautiful and it's a biome that changes throughout the year.

To me the beach is just the beach. Pretty much the same year round. Go a several hundred to a thousand feet inland and it's a fantastically complex area!

Devon, a true kindred spirit ! Don't forget the oysters, clams, and fishing ! We won't eat beef, pork or poultry more than a few times total !

Weight 125.2, calories 1835.

Good morning BB! Thanks for starting us out. When I looked at your post title I realized that I had forgotten that yesterday would have been my mother's 95th Birthday (she passed away at 86).

Yesterday some friends from a long time ago came to visit. The husband is our age, but we were originally friends with his father and mother. They were wonderful, warm, giving people who we met when they were in their 40's and we were in our 20's. DH was especially close to the father who called DH his 4th son. DH spoke on behalf of the family at his funeral. We had a really nice visit which DH enjoyed though he wasn't able to make much sense when talking yesterday. It was an incomplete, non-sensical sentence day. My calories were high because we went with them to dinner at a good local Italian restaurant. I only ate half my meal, but had wine and half of an Italian meal still has a lot of calories!

Today is a warmup day and if the sun comes out there could be pool involved. Regardless we can finally sit out in the lanai again (we were able to yesterday as well). Next week should be warm and sunny so we definitely need to get to the beach as well.

We have a dance tonight which I'm not overly excited about, but they are early here so we will probably go. I guarantee that SIL won't go if I don't even though she would be sitting with friends. Diane suggested that I ask SIL to help. I do sometimes and she always will respond, but I hate having to ask...

BB, I like the nuggets you got from that podcast. I need to do some real planning about my eating. And stick to it!

Have a fantastic Friday!

Good morning!

BB, I loved your post about TM workout in posh club with friend that may change your future. Who would have guessed?

Liz, I used to grieve for your lost sleep. Now you don't even have bathroom privacy. I think SIL and DH should share a bathroom and you get one to yourself. Justice is allowed in but that's it.

Have any of you noticed that WA state is having a measles outbreak? Measles!!!!! But, our weather is mild so there is that.

Ann, glad you are filling out :) There was a study done on older folks (I don't have it in front of me but I think participants were up to 85 years old?) that showed muscle loss could be reversed with basic strength training and not even all that much of it. Enjoy flexing.

Peps, a day of sugar free and MAKING it work. Think of all the money you have spent on sillier things....that 17 dollar sandwich is a drop in the bucket. By the way, my neighbor boy (now 26) confessed that it isn't unusual for him to have breakfast ubered. He said "that's so bad," and I'm said, YES IT IS!

TGIF! (DianeO, let us know you aren't a frozen popsicle that needs to be rescued). eta, I see Diane0 has posted
