I?ve been off the grid ! This weather is simply NOT enjoyable. With windchills of negative 24+, we could only shovel in short increments. It took more time to get bundled up than was actually spent outside. Then came the 24 hours of rain and 40 degree temperatures, causing ice jams and flooding. Any residual snow became moisture laden and too heavy to lift. We are back in the deep freeze, with snow coming in the not too distant future. I have a wicket cold from being cold and wet and sick and tired ! We old people do complain about health and weather ! I don?t know when I started disliking winter weather in the NE, but I have ! I can?t even enjoy being outside doing the things I like to do !
Thursday night we drove the four hours to Albany for DC?s PCP appointment. I thought of Ann?s riverboat horn story as ice jams began to batter barges along the Hudson (two floating restaurants and one oil barge) loose causing them to close all bridges down river as these unmanned torpedoes sped down river. We headed home before we found out how the situation was resolved. I?ll have to Google it.
Shirl, thoughts of 110? Australian summer make me wonder if you want a farm hand?.except for those snakes !!! Cecily, I so loved the view from Sugarloaf !! Thanks for reactivating it !! Can?t wait to hear about the cruise itself.
Have made lots of notes about everyone?s thoughts on our quest to be more than a number on the scale, and making progress on a reply.
P.S. I did Google loose barges on Hudson ! One of the six loose vessels was a four level dinner cruise ship that became partially wedged under a railroad tressle bridge. The videos show the power of moving ice and water !

Good morning, all!
I'm all cozy in mild PNW winter with low in 30, high of 50, and (most importantly) no rain in forecast. I might not be in NOLA or on a cruise, but at least I am not an ice cube, or infested, or sweltering.
DianeO, can you simply fly away to somewhere warm? Peps, YIKES! And, by the way, I am glad you are sitting out that show. Rest well. Shirl! I think that kind of heat might be the toughest of all and feel for you and animals! (I just remembered about someone about to have a calf....or is that someone else not on this forum? If it was one of yours, did it happen and I missed it?)
Diamond, I think you have a deliberately colorful life. I wish to copy that and I hope DH feels better. DianeS, I hope your household is beginning to return to normal as DH recovers. Have you displayed your Bigfoot, yet? I was wondering about comments from others. You could make a giant one and display it along HW101 and it would be instantly iconic.
Cecily, enjoy that cruise. Are their nooks you can retreat to if you want to get away from people? (My inner introvert is showing). Oh Ann, NOLA sounds lovely in every way. Every. Single. Way.
David, David, David! Can you see me now? Let us know how you are! Ditto Paula although I think you are busy in love and family.
B150, enjoy your rest this weekend. Liz, if you ever need a break, come out here and I'll hire you to be my interior decorator. It makes me happy to just look at the pics of your home.
BB, may you find both time for family and fun this weekend! By the way, in all my depressingly FREQUENT conversations with patients about food (which they force on me), I think I have only heard "food as fuel" maybe once. Several times a year I will meet someone that absolutely doesn't care about food but that is a different animal. Maybe your peeps are gym rats that live on shakes or something?
Savor your weekend, some of you might need virtual reality,
Shel

Shel... You know how healthy grocery shopping means the outer perimeter, which is chilled for protein and dairy, with not much warming up on inner aisles ? Well after getting from the cold, to the cold, to the colder, I actually considered driving directly to the airport to take any flight to a warm place !! I'd buy anything I needed there !!

Totally places to escape to be by yourself. It's weird because it's a huge ship, but they don't have a ton of passengers. I think the max is 900 something with 500+ crew members. The nightclub areas are empty during the day, there's a library, there's a movie theater with newish movies, and right now I'm hanging in my room readying for a nap!
Weight 125.2, calories 1681. Also feeling very constitipated (sorry TMI) and TIRED! We were home from the "Shake, Rattle and Roll" festival around 10:30, but I didn't get to sleep until about 12:30 or so. Then Justice started doing somersaults on the bed at 2:30 because he really needed to go out. He took care of it quickly thank goodness but though he went right back to sleep it took me a while. So maybe about 5 hours of sleep? Tonight we have a dinner dance at the lodge which I didn't fully appreciate was back to back with the event yesterday. But at least I don't have to cook dinner!
DH had a good time with his friends though I guess there were some difficult restaurant moments. As I was explaining to his friends what to do beforehand and hearing how that went, I was realizing how much filling in/figuring out/defusing I do with DH to deal with his communication/frustration issues.
But the afternoon and night out with my friends was a lot of fun, and we may do another show in late March (if his friends are willing - maybe takeout will work better???).
Ice jams!!! I do think you need a trip to a warmer climate sometime in the next winter weeks!
Have a successful Saturday!

Argh, typed a lot and lost it. The cruise is going well! We sailed last night. I could definitely feel it, but the scopolamine patch is working like a charm. We went to a show last night with Latin dancing and singing, then dinner. Today we stopped in Buzios. What a charming little town! Chic boutiques, cobblestone streets, cafes on the water, beaches everywhere. I'm sitting on my balcony overlooking the ocean. We did Pilates this morning and walked about 4 miles in town. I'm thinking of going to the gym in a few minutes as they have an ice cream shop with free Ben and Jerry's onboard. Ice cream is my kryptonite! Here are some pics of Buzios and my current view...
