Weight 124.2, Calories 2033. I decided I would eat whatever I felt like yesterday. Not good, but today will be more controlled.
SIL and I are going to Sarasota to a music festival with a group of 10 ladies from our morning walking group. DH's two best friends are going to hang out with him for the afternoon and evening. We are bringing our own boxed dinner as there is no time to easily go to a restaurant and no one wants to do fast food (thank goodness).
I exchanged emails with a friend from my caretaker's support group at home. She and her DH are in Portland OR waiting for their first granddaughter to be born. She said she feels suffocated because she can't leave her DH even for a moment in an unfamiliar location. We do wonder how this all happened... Her last line really summed it up: "the challenge is to somehow care for these great guys we love without losing ourselves in the process".
Shel, those pictures yesterday were so beautiful, as yours always are, but the dampness made me feel cold. I am definitely getting old. Diane, it sounds like your DH is doing well. I'm so happy that Cecily is already having some great adventures. Shirl, I had the opposite feeling reading about your heat. 110-115? Like being baked in an oven! DD, what a fun week doing Latino! BB, I think you are doing fantastic with your pregnancy weight. Ann, what was the restaurant so I can ask my DS if he knows about it? One of his friends did a chef internship in NOLA.
Everyone: Have a full Friday!

Liz, thanks so much for starting the day! Your friend surly hit the nail on the head when it comes to caring for others. How does one find the balance on such a fine wire? Easy to misstep- easy to get lost up in it. The stress, wear and tare over such a long period of time ....( the time factor- keeping going day after day). Your strength of character and integrity overwhelms me.
I have now been back at work- first full week, and it goes well enough. The classes are finishing up work in units I missed when out (not fun coming back in the middle of things). Soon to begin Othello in one class, and Romeo and Juliet in another---WHOOP!!! Revisiting old friends I haven't heard from in a while.
Speaking of ...time to find the car keys and bug out. Have a wonderful Friday, folks.
Enjoy what comes.

I'm starting Romeo and Juliet too in the mainstream English class I team teach, and also in my pull out English class. I will make some modifications for my pull out class, but I love proving to my struggling readers that they can understand, and hopefully enjoy Shakespeare as well as any other student at our high school.
Liz, we ate at Brightesen's.

As promised, yesterday's food choices were happy ones, but a different kind of happy. :)
This morning I did some Liz-style analyses of my daily calories, carbs, and weights since arriving in NOLA and see some patterns I'll use to modify next month's behavior. I do need to dial it down more between party nights. I can do this! :)
Today in NOLA will be a bit warmer, but less sunny. BTW, I'm noticing how much I'm reporting on the weather lately, as are many others. Clearly, North American winters get our attention because our moods are so influenced by colder temps and greyer skies. (Shirl has different, but definite weather challenges Down Under.)
It's Friday, which means I'll walk through the park to the gym. I have no social gatherings to attend tonight, so it'll be another quiet evening and another good night's sleep. I truly look forward to those and have lots of French homework and much reading I want to do.
Today's theme: Self-care is fun, too.

B150, tho you are likely happy to find your old rhythms, I bet your body is ready for the weekend! Seek soothing! Liz, you are right, it is darn right chilly (Shirl, come on over) and it was made chillier because my American Life podcast kept switching to podcast #666 which is on Satan. I refuse to listen to anything about Satan while lonely in the woods but it kept popping back to the 666 episode. (I have had jumping around weirdness on occasion in the past so I'm not saying the devil made the the podcast do it.) So, I switched to music.
Enjoy your day,
Shel

Hopefully it wasn't spooky music!

I think I've been doing better on portion control, and then something comes up to totally throw me off again! Yesterday I even celebrated my healthy snacks of grapes with tiny bit of cheese, chicken meatballs, and then a craving came and drove me to the cupcake store. But I did round it back out with pork tenderloin, green beans, and a nakey sweet potato yesterday for dinner.
Then this morning I had every intention of eating a good breakfast--soyrizo breakfast tacos--but it is not okay on my stomach recently. Spicy or tomatoey things are yikes! Guess pregnancy heartburn. So then work has donuts--and of course donuts go down easy peasy. I'm trying to be nice to myself about it, though. Onward and upward.
Cold day today. Interesting thoughts re the weather, Ann. Isn't it also interesting how much that depends where you are? Like for me, it's not nearly as cold (or definitely snowy) as many of you. But we've had some very windy days, and I contend that cold winter wind at 30+ mph is about as miserable as it gets! Over all, I don't think it's the cold that bothers me so much as the short days. It feels like we get home and it's time for bed. I definitely love having all seasons, but will be very excited for spring to emerge. I'm just asking for one beautiful "snow globe snow" day.
Tonight DH and I will go to Brazilian steakhouse dinner with another couple. It's basically a buffet, but better because they bring around the fresh meats. I really struggle with these types of venues. I cannot just "don't eat for 24 hours/come hungry." I can eat what I can eat, and I have to pay the full price. But I really enjoy it, and my dinner guests will enjoy it, so what's the difference? If I'm full on two meats and they have to eat 6, what difference does it make?
Then putting a brisket in the oven to cook overnight for a game night tomorrow with Keto friend.
When I ask people here for restaurant recommendations I often get the "You should go to -----. They have huge portions!" As if that is the most important thing about picking a restaurant! I like good tasting food and ambience. Quality, not quantity!
