In line with yesterday's theme--"finding comfort practicing with discomfort"--today's discomforts include sunny but cooler weather in the 50s (my body already likes living in the 70s), practicing yoga with a new teacher, avoiding a dinner invitation from a Missouri friend who's in NOLA for the weekend, and ****tails with friends tonight at a fancy bar. As life's discomforts go, those are pretty weak.
So here's a tougher discomfort: After viewing the photo of my eye that I sent yesterday morning to my optometrist and to my eye surgeon, the optometrist said, "I think it looks great!" Then the ophthalmologist (cataract surgeon) texted that he thinks the eyelid still needs more healing time and wants to see another photo next week. So no second cataract surgical joy yet. Oooommm. Translation **** it!
Yesterday I adulted big-time by finding a garage to get the car oil changed and ticking off that chore. My husband would have given me a big gold star for that. :)
This morning after my walk in the park, I'm going to a new book club at the public library. I haven't read this month's selection yet, since I just checked it out yesterday, but I've been flipping through it and have read several reviews. Mostly, I just want to check out the group and see if it's a good book club fit for me.
I'm sticking with yesterday's theme: Find comfort practicing with discomfort.

I was keeping the dogs in the office while TubFitters were here, and I worked on my Before & After article for ObesityHelp Kathy. The good news is that the article is complete and sent. The bad news is that the shower is not. The design lady who prepared the contract and work order emphasized how much capacity we would gain, extending the existing space by 6?in width, making the glass doors flush with the edge of the wall, not inset. The new shower would be base to ceiling, wall to wall. The installer got here, and the 90? high pieces didn?t come in the design we selected, so a band of painted wall board would remain or subway tile would have to be fitted in. Ugh ! Shortly after, it became apparent that he came with a shower base 5? shorter than the width. Why would I pay $7,000 for basically what I had ? The base width we need is only available in a 6? threshold (rather than the 3? we were quoted) and is custom made. Of course, the larger base and floor to ceiling surround cost more ! I said, ?We?re not getting what we wanted and were promised by the designer. We only did this for the larger capacity and clean lines. We want what we agreed to, for the price we agreed to.? Her notes on the contract were sketchy at best, so they are making it right at their expense. Luckily, we have another full bath, as ours wont be installed until January 30th ! (Our current bathroom was torn apart before error was identified !)

Contractors! are the primary reason we do not often follow through on project ideas for the house. I understand the need for flexibility and unexpected surprises, but.... All said and done, Diane, I think that resolving the issue of responsibility (with the contractor rightfully owning it on the FIRST encounter) is a WIN! Well done!
Diane, this post made me laugh, but it was hysterical laughter. After last summer's two-week "fluffing up the porches and decks" project that turned into a three-month project that included new roofs for three buildings, I feel your pain!
So sorry about the delay in completing the project. I have NO words of advice. But I am very impressed that you got your designer to absorb the extra costs.
In my experience, anything having to do with home building and home repairs, maintenance, and remodeling is fraught with stress. I've never heard of any house building or remodeling projects EVER being completed on time or without major bumps.

How frustrating! I'm glad they are going to make it right for you.
I just found out that I need a new faucet for my filtered water as the shaft is too short. What a pain! I hope it isn't a big deal, because the hole is already in the granite.

Today seems to be a day for practicing peace and patience in the face of the discomfiture of unfinished projects--bathrooms and eyes! Breath in...breath out...
This morning I woke to the alarm at 5am. Practicing getting back into the routine of work. With 7 days at home remaining, I'm hoping to train my system to do what it needs to do in a timely fashion without stressing/trying to rush things. Two hours in the morning now is not the same as before- just regular stuff takes so much longer to accomplish.
Yesterday, I realized I need to reevaluate clothing options- for no apparent reason I know of, I just kind of blew up like a balloon around the middle. At home the solution is easy- change into a pair of sweats, and ride it out, which means that because of some accompanying pain- any activity that requires attention is put on the back burner. I certainly will not have a sweats option at school and so far, I cannot anticipate when or if this will occur. Can you imagine me unzipping my waists and casually strolling the halls? Project for the day- identify all low-rise pants and jeans, looser pull-over tops and unfitted/unstructured dresses. Skirts are evidently out for the duration. I am so hoping I will have the flexibility to just leave and take a walk--the thought of me visibly wincing in the classroom for all to see just mortifies me.
Thought for the day- Be prepared practice gratitude over the huge progress I have made, and know I've got this! (or will have) It is all good- always good.

I'm guessing there are many students who would work extra hard to earn a walk break with you ! As an elementary principal, I used to reward classes for exceptional cafeteria behavior by picking them up from lunch and walking them around the block. Teachers had an extra twenty minutes tacked on to lunch, kids returned more focused, and I had lots of opportunities to walk ! Win, win,win !

Your strategy is an excellent one- I used it extensively with my elementary IEP kiddos to resolve just about any issue- behavior, frustration, attention, hell, sometimes just be cause. I worked with wonderful teachers who trusted and allowed me to "just do it" no matter what was going on in the classroom. While most of the time our conversations had nothing to do with the problem, the issues seemed to be magically solved. What do they say about "not much learning will take place until trust and relationship is established"...you betcha!
However, I am laughing just a little bit, at the thought of any student wanting to take a stroll with me, as I anticipate my need to leave will have everything to do with body issues- most specifically the nefarious "Whipple gas". Can you imagine? (Phatooooot): !!!!
