Like others have mentioned, I like the holiday lights. Seems like we should be able to have them for longer. Enjoy your tree.

I don't have a pic of the best part of the hike because my hands were stiff and cold by that time. I was done with the hike, about to pull out of the parking lot onto the highway, when I saw a dog by the road. It wasn't interested in me or my car, she was busy meticulously shuffling her snout through the leaves and needles just inches away from the blacktop highway.

I watched for a minute, hoping hikers would appear to capture their explorer. When no one appeared, I got out of my car, crouched down and did my best to look dog-fabulous. She was at my knees in seconds, full of hugs.

Jetta had full tags, including one that said "I am Jetta. I live next to Mt Si. Plz don't take me." Another had a phone number so I called, and within a couple of minutes a man appeared at the top of the next driveway singing "Jetta!" In a flash, Jetta ran to her dad. Sweet dog, that Jetta. I hope she finds me on the trail sometime.

Hiking Pics below. The one without snow is of new trees! I finally tried an optional loop today that I have passed by a million times. Very dark in there. Snow is pretty but oh so cold.

Beautiful pics! I wish you had had a pic of Jetta to post, too. So, your two tree pics - snowy and non snowy - are they both from today taken at different elevations? Is the non snowy pic in an area so dense in canopy that snow does not reach the understory?

Curious mind...

Same hike, there was only snow at the top.

Everything Devon said ... and one other question: How much weight were you packing in your backpack?

Just added another 3 lbs yesterday so now up to 24 lbs added weight. My usual backpack and stuff weighs 7 lbs. Every time I want to complain I remember I need to be apply to haul 40 lbs up to 10000 feet. Then from 10,000 to 14-something I need to be able to haul 25 lbs in sketchy footing and thin air.

The weights just sit at the bottom. Today my shoulders were super tight and achey, I assume from the load but I also don't see how just 3 more lbs made such a difference. There must be a distribution/backpack adjustment technique that I don't know.

DiamondD, congrats on the new car! I love new cars, whether brand spanking new or simply new to me! Remote start and heated seats are wonderful luxuries for the harsh winters in Minnie! Sounds like you will enjoy your newest vehicle. Hope so!

Ann, glad sleep found you and wrapped you with the ability to put your mood on the upswing. Your post this morning sounded chipper and upbeat!

Diane O. glad that Chuck is on the mend. I am envious of his progress. Are you still doing well with the addition of the Bactrin? Burn healing and infection going away?

Shel, interested to know how you are able to manage your "The Whole Day is Ruined" syndrome. For me that is a tough one, if sugar is involved. The biological factor coupled with the emotional factors make it very difficult for me to recover from an eating foible during that same day.

Liz, I'm glad you have found a comrade of sorts. It is important, I am sure, to be able to relate with someone who truly understands your situation. Homes with dogs and Roomba type robo vacuums are incompatible. See below.

Diane S. hope you are experiencing the same wonderful weather up your way as I am experiencing here. On the continuum of carb-i-licious foods crackers rank pretty low (IMO), so I hope you don't feel too guilty. Of course, I'm one who can eat chocolate the way some eat potato chips! Keeping my fingers crossed that Shrinking Nerd gets his surgery scheduled sooner rather than later.

Lesa, so glad to read you are on the mend and that you are feeling better. This is why I will NEVER EVER have a bObsweep or a Roomba...Dog Poop vs. Roomba video Though this is a dramatization video, I know of people to whom this exact thing has happened, most recently to the owners of Winston, the ever so cute English Bulldog puppy who came to the classroom not too long ago.

Bonnie BB, your family is beautiful. BTW, you and your DH have about the same age difference as Ron and I. It has never been a hindrance in our relationship. I did begin to notice a big change once he was 65, but now I'm more inclined to attribute that slow down to his illness, not his age. I bet your younger kids will benefit from DH's experience, patience, and financial stability. Lucky little ones!

Bonnie150 - continued good healing and cheer. Like Ann, I so admire your outlook on life and your positivity.

Dave - hope all is well. Miss seeing you regularly. Hope you are still experiencing an upswing in your mood.

Shirl - Where are you Miss Down Under? Hope you had a glorious and summery Christmas. So strange to me to think of Christmas being during the summer months. Totally negates why the church put Christmas in December, doesn't it?

Gotta run for my next grooming. More later.
