Christmas Eve December 24, 2018
Merry Christmas Eve!
No weight.
Poor Becca is still really suffering. The mornings are the worst (isn't that always the case when congested?!). She woke up extra early this morning...4:30. And was coughing and couldn't get back to sleep. Tried to feed her...we have all now changed outfits a couple times :( Really hope it improves today.
I had mentioned my ?selfish? disappointment that my own aunt and uncle and cousins were doing their own Christmas eve. Apparently I wasn't the only one! I received an awkward text last night from my cousin who was upset that his sister wanted to do their own thing and asking if he could come to OUR Christmas rather than his moms!! What a strange position to be in! And I really didn't want to get him or me in trouble. But I told him of course he was welcome. Hope we didn't cause a family rift.
Just a couple of Becca's presents left to be wrapped. Why do kid toys have to be so difficult to wrap?
Since I'm already up, I plan to make it out to grocery store here early. I'd love to get an early start on my meal for tomorrow but if it doesn't happen...there's always tomorrow. Taking appetizers over tonight and my mom's having the dinner. Church first so long as Becca is feeling okay.
I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas

Thanks for starting us off this Christmas Eve, Bonnie. I hope Becca feels better today and tonight.
I so enjoyed everyone's contributions yesterday. It's fascinating to see how differently we plot and navigate our lives. As often occurs here, the conversation illustrated that there's no single right way for all of us, but the right way for each of us. I also must acknowledge, once again, that this is one of the most unjudgmental groups I've ever belonged to.
Last night I went to my sister's big family Christmas get-together gift exchange and sit-down dinner. The food was really great! The main dish was smoked ham with the best red-eye gravy I've ever had. Other good things I enjoyed were a delicious kale salad (damn, kale's tasting better and better!), a subtly flavored sweet potato dish, which was only lightly sweetened and had no mystery ingredients, green beans, and deviled eggs. Dessert was pumpkin pie (I ate the innards, but no crust). I skipped the rolls, mashed potatoes, butter, and candy. My shrink would have given me an A in moderation. :),
My only contribution to the meal was wine, which went down well.
After dinner around the Christmas tree, my niece's five-year-old twins provided plenty of holiday excitement to go around. Given my recent medical and hole issues, I wound up going mostly old-school with my gifts (envelopes of cash). However, no one seemed disappointed, which shows that cash is still king.
Today will be comparatively quiet. I'll go to town to get the mail and take a long walk in a pretty neighborhood. Tonight I'll cook a pork loin, make a big salad, and drink an extra glass of wine.
It will be enough. :)
Merry Christmas!

I couldn't agree with you more re: open and accepting group.
I ended up being worried about my own post but it was really just my own introspection.
And Christmastime can be such a hard time of year for so many. We feel those empty seats and miss times past.
You all are such wonderful people who have become such a part of my life. I wish we could meet up for our own food hole, ahem I mean Christmas event, this coming weekend.
I hope you all have a George Bailey Christmas and know and feel how important you are in the lives of those around you (and even some not so near!).
I 100% agree that the important part of Christmas is spending time with the important people in your life and especially seeing the joy of children!

Sorry I've been AWOL. I am used to gas stoves, and still haven't adjusted to my ceramic cook top. Hours after a burner is turned off, the warning light remains on, and I've begun to ignore it. Friday night, I was putting something fragile away, in the cupboard over the stove. I leaned on the stove with my forearm, which I promptly burned (but I didn't drop the decanter). Ran it under some water, pulled my long sleeves down, had another wine, and moved on. Saturday, it presented as a significant second degree burn. Put some antibiotic ointment on it, pulled my sleeve back down, and went to my family Christmas. By Saturday night, the surrounding area was swollen, red, and very uncomfortable. Spent a major part of yesterday at Urgent Care. Infected second degree burn, and cellulitis. On strong oral and topical antibiotics, with initial colored markings of swelling/redness made. I was given two contrasting markers to track edges daily. If my fever goes over 101 ,and/or the boarder expands substantially, I"ll have to be admitted for IV antibiotics. I'll catch up on your posts and be ready with a more cogent response tomorrow.

Oh, rats, Diane! I'm so sorry that this happened.
However, I am impressed by the instructions to use a marker to measure daily changes in the boo-boo. I've never heard of that before.
I hope you heal very, very quickly!
A.
