Hurrah for 8 hours of sleep, an eye that feels so much better and looks better, and that all-time queen of vegetables - coffee! :)
Hurrah again for a scale weight of 133 this morning at 2:45 am. That's 2.6 pounds lost during my "Ten Days to Lose Three Pounds" challenge. Given all the physical issues I've dealt with during this challenge (ribs still healing, enforced hiatus from Aquarobics and yoga classes, recovering from eye surgery, an infection in the other eye and treatments), I'm very pleased with a 2.6 pound loss. During this challenge I also relearned how to drink plain water (hot seems easiest), raised my daily steps from 10K to 12+K, and got excited again about home yoga.
I hope to find time during Birthday Week to chirp up a few times. My eating intentions this week are (1) to enjoy great food and drink at those venues where the food/drink is really great, (2) not to graze in other settings, and (3) otherwise, to eat healthy and nutritious foods. Exercise-wise, I'll do a lot of walking in cold weather and some yoga.
Not much time left this morning to ponder anything - except to give shout outs to Cecily who's enjoying good food and exercise again and to Shel who's coming along so well with her Mt. Ranier training. And to DiamondD and others who found less strenuous ways this weekend to nurture yourselves, well done to you, too. 'Tis definitely the season to nurture ourselves.
Today I'm grateful for my body's ability to heal itself when **** happens. I'm also very grateful to my mother who grew such a great body for me 73 years ago and to both my parents for being so kind to me. This week, as always, I am so grateful to my dear husband who shared my birthday and who, magically, found me on Planet Earth, insisted that we belonged together, and was very, very right!

Ann-Happy almost birthday! Glad your eye is doing better.
I'm feeling pretty grateful today, too. I was listening to music when a song that my mom loves came on. (Gordon Lightfoot's Song for a Winter's Night). I was thankful for that powerful memory of her and sad knowing how strong that, and other things, would hit me when my parents are gone. Somewhere in my head I kind of assume my parents will always be around and that's not the case. I feel such a blessed "burden" that we have all cheated death so far and to make the best out of unknown time. Recently I've also been feeling very overwhelmed by what good parents my parents were/are and how to even begin to rival that as a parent myself. As Ann said of hers, mine were/are very kind. I think I've said before that my mom's only comment on my weight that stood out to me was when she said "I'm just so excited for everyone else to see you the way I see you." And especially now, around the holidays, I have so many fond, happy memories. HOw will I create the same for my own children?
Speaking of creating the same for my own children, you might have seen our tree lit up on Facebook. DH and I had a very busy weekend. He wouldn't let me lift or get up on a ladder and, truth be told, even not pregnant I don't think I could do much! We treated ourselves to a new tree this year...13.5ft. We went slim and I slightly wish we'd gone with the fuller tree, but man it was a ton of work decorating this tree, I cannot imagine a bigger tree! On Saturday we worked on the actual tree/fluffing i****ching OU football, and I cooked a birthday dinner for my mom and we took it over to them and their friends on Saturday night. Sunday we had first day of Advent at church, decorating the Christmas tree, and getting DH ready to go back to the airport. I have promised him a much more relaxing weekend next week before he starts his new job.
Today I am going to try and be very productive at work. Perhaps use my lunch hour to find a garland for the mantel. We have a tv over the mantle which complicates things, but I wont be deterred. This year with a puller-upper baby we have sadly decided not to put up our smaller family tree. It's in the living room--which is where we normally are. So it's feeling Grinchy in there, so rather than our usual, fairly slim green garland, I'm aiming for something that says "more is more." Friends coming over this evening to watch VS Fashion show. And eat rather un-VS model food.
I loved the slimmer profile of that tree. And you folks did a beautiful job decorating!

I think your tree is gorgeous! I'm missing my tree (I have a teeny tiny one here). I plan to get mine up the day I get home if possible. At minimum I want to set it up, then hopefully DH will put on some of the ornaments. I may have to rearrange a *****e tends to cluster them), but it would be nice if he participates some.

Me too! Can you believe he's 80 years old?! I've seen him 2 or 3 times now. Most recently a couple years ago and sadly his voice is very quiet now. But it's pretty amazing when people continue to do what they love.
(My favorites are Carefree Highway, If You Could Read My Mind, Edmund Fitzgerald)
Speaking of people getting up in age who are still doing what they love...have you seen the ads for the newest Clint Eastwood film. I'm a sucker for Eastwood, but the ads look pretty phenomenal. He's my grandmother's age at 88. Wow.

And still touring I hear! Incredible. Those are all favorites of mine too and Did She Mention My Name. Edmund Fitzgerald is like the unofficial anthem of Michigan, so you hear it everywhere! To the point my Dad cringes now when he hears it!
Is that the movie about the bank robber with Sissy Spacek too? That looks great! And he looks way more with it than Robert Redford did in his recent Netflix movie with Jane Fonda...
Edmund Fitzgerald~I'm old enough to remember the storm that brought it down. I have relatives that worked on freighters that traveled Lake Superior, much like the Edmund Fitzgerald. There is a maritime museum in Duluth (our biggest port city on Lake Superior and my Dad's hometown) that has a life ring from the Fitzgerald. And on the anniversary of the loss, there is a decommissioned light house that turns on it's light to honor the crew. And there are a lot of "gales of November" events in what we like to call "up north"'.
