My calories yesterday were 200 over my target because after two hours in bed without sleep my "iron will" crumbled. Oh, well ... still not awful, and today's a good day to begin anew. :)
Yesterday I did ten windshield wipers, which were enough to discover that my left abdominal muscles are weaker than my right ones. Interesting! Over time that will surely change. BTW, I did yesterday's whole yoga@home session to Glenn Miller's Orchestra Christmas songs. It was different, but fun!
Today I'll miss yoga and won't make my 12K steps target (have adjusted today's steps target to 8K), because I'm driving 230 miles round-trip to The Big City for my monthly therapist appointment. Some Christmas and other shopping will also happen.
BTW, I've decided that during this Ten Day Challenge I will keep my daily steps to 12,000, since I don't have any more time to devote to walking, given my hour-long yoga@home sessions and my post eye-surgery regimen.
Today in The Big City I'm also meeting a man for lunch whom my therapist introduced to me who's about to have VSG surgery. He's disappointed in his pre-op support group meetings and wants to meet "a professional person who doesn't whine about WLS." That would definitely be me! He's the person *****commended The Boys in the Boat.
In closing ... today we're spinning "Classic Rock Christmas" with holiday hits by George Thorogood, the Beach Boys, John Lennon, Pat Benatar, Leon Russell, Elton John et al. Enjoy! https://music.amazon.com/albums/B0186SDVBC
Today's theme: Monday ... our once a week, every week Begin Anew Day!

Weight 123.2, calories 1700 or so (eggplant parm for dinner at a restaurant - yummm). The sand sculptures yesterday were amazing as usual but it was brutally hot. I had to stand under a tent to cool down at one point. The sculptors were really suffering.
Unfortunately DH was nasty again all over his beach bag which he insisted he carry even though he didn't need it and I was afraid he would lose it with his glasses (which I was planning to carry in the extra large bag I had). It probably happened because he tried to read the book in the car on the way there (he has been reading chapter one since we arrived here on 11/4), got carsick, then refused to eat his lunch because he didn't feel good. He actually started shaking me rather violently in the waiting line for the woman's restroom and tried to come in. What a scene! He calmed down after we went back for his bag and he ate his lunch. But that was day #2 of nasty stubbornness and now I'm afraid to bring him anywhere. We were supposed to go to a light show tonight but I'm probably going to cancel.
Here are a couple of the sculptures which are taking a long time to upload from my phone for some reason. The top won first place in the masters category and the second was done by our friend and depicts a boy looking in horror at an incoming wave as he crouches next to his sandcastle. Unfortunately our friend did not place in the Advanced Amateur category though I didn't love any of the sculptures that did.
Have a mostly good Monday.

Ann-have a good time shopping!
Liz-sorry to hear about that with DH. Do you think he's still adjusting to new scenery (but you've been there a few weeks right)?
Weight: 166.8
My stomach was upset for some reason yesterday. Very nasty day outside (wind gusts up to 50mph) so delighted to stay inside. DH back to Houston this week and next. Home for the weekend, though. Will be so nice to be done with all this travel.
Put away Thanksgiving and have boxes down for Christmas. Cannot lift too much or get on a ladder, so my goal this week is to slowly put up things other than the tree. Then tree this weekend and done...is the hope.
Also hoping to do some cyber Monday shopping. I don't know why I put it off until the end and then have to worry about shipping, wait to wrap, etc. Would love to slowly wrap a couple of presents each night as I go rather than a multi-hour marathon on December 23/24
Good morning!
Time really flies....I feel like I blink and it is time for Ann's trek into the Big City. A few blinks and it is time for fabulous sand sculptures -- so creative! Liz, I know that Paul's behavior isn't under his control and don't blame him, but I do worry about you.
Cecily, I opened the computer to find I didn't finish a post to you yesterday. That was quite a plunge back into hiking! Good for you!
My current training group has addressed increased appetite from hiking a couple of times, tho briefly. After hiking (so endurance activity, vs strength) he recommends you have some healthy carbs, right away. So, do this in the car, not when you get home.
He doesn't say exactly how much or what, but my guess is we are only talking a few hundred calories. Once he said something about Gatorade being good because of carbs and electrolytes so that's why I am probably thinking a few hundred. (I don't use gatorade, by the way. If I want electrolytes, I use Nuun. What do you use in sunny CA?)
He said that if he doesn't do this in the car, his appetite is on hyperdrive for an extended period. Plus, his muscles don't recover as well.
I frequently don't eat on hikes (personal preference) but do have something in my car waiting for me to begin gobbling as soon as I get there.
I used to eat protein forward after hike. But now, per the trainer's rec, I have been skipping the protein, opting instead for a couple of pieces of fruits , or maybe fruit and nuts. Yesterday, I didn't have fruit at home so I had a shocking amount of carrots and a pack of 100 cal almonds. No matter what I have in my car, I usually stop at Starbucks 30 minutes later for coffee, and almost always add on egg white bites.
In hindsight, I think switching from protein to carbs post hike has likely been helpful. I don't find myself wondering about an insatiable appetite like I did over the summer before switching. I still WANT more food, but this the usual want.....not appetite.
Anyhoo, off to the races....have a great day, all.
Shel

Wt is stable but certainly not where I want it to be. Eating has been to heavy on the carb side.
The wind is blowing all the leaves away. So glad I did not rake them.
I think Adalyn is on the mend again. She is a different child when she is feeling good. It will not be long until she can tell us what is hurting. When she is good she is very, very good.
Went to a benefit auction on Saturday night. It was for a young couple and 2 young daughters. She works at DILs pharmacy and he worked in the oil business. He was complaining of increasing headaches. They found 4 tumors. Removed 2 and closed him up. No insurance. He can not return to work. She will need to be off for his daily medical treatments and prognosis is not great. But the auction / chili supper was up lifting. His co workers showed up with about 200 of the community. The auctioneer donated his skills. The new sheriff cooked the chill. Items were donated and auctioned. A group of his co workers bid outrageous prices for stuff. Like $500 for a pie type of bidding. But all of the bidding was generous. I have never been to an auction like this. It is heartwarming to see the whole community come together like this. I guess like it is going on all over California.
I am trying to stay warm with the wind blowing.
More Later, David

Greetings Holiday People
Still hovering at 153. Sometimes I feel like the Goodyear blimp - just hovering. BTW, our airport is one of the places that the Goodyear Blimp parks when its not occupied so we see it around here from time to time. Odd sight in a small town. Makes a lot of noise too.
I need a plan like Ann's so maybe I will work on that. But I gotta start a little slower. Also get back to my P90 fitness routine. DH has the electronics so complicated he is going to have to show me how to work it again. And then I will show him how to cook a turkey dinner! NOT. He is off at jury duty and I fear he will get picked as he is friendly and doesn't try to get out of it and is one of the few people around here that doesn't appear to be bat **** crazy. Last time he was on a jury for a guy who robbed a bank disguised by wearing a trash bag, grocery bag on his head and no shoes. The traumatized teller took a Kermit the Frog doll with her when she testified. He was convicted.
Ann, good that you are paying it forward by giving no nonsense vsg talk to someone who needs it. And Lo! You too walk in circles inside!
Our neighbor has gone over the top with Christmas decorations! Her son put them up and said it looked like Christmas threw up here. LOL if I can figure out how to post a picture I will do so.
Dave, so glad Adalyn is feeling better. Makes for better snuggle time with Pop Pop. Are you still on lifting restrictions? Stable weight is good weight especially since your activity is limited.
Liz I am so sorry your DH is having these episodes. I know your DH can't help it but you need to keep yourself safe. Maybe outings are just too much for him at times and routine repeated activities would be best like taking Justice on the same walk. Would it be possible to have a hired caregiver start coming over from time to time so the person becomes familiar to DH?
BTW, I often poke fun at my eccentric DH here but he is a dear person. I know some of you have lost DHs and would give anything to have them back. So in dissing mine a bit I don't mean to be insensitive.
I repeat, stay warm DianeO. When are DC's procedures? Soon as I recall.
Shel we bow to you who runs up stairs with weights. Must be like living on the fourth floor in NYC and carrying groceries and a brief case. NO wonder no one is fat in San Francisco (except they are and they just order pizza delivery).
Don't forget the holiday tradition of listening to Aretha Franklin sing Joy to the World on youtube. It rocks.
Studio time today and not much planned. But the storm is coming - a slew of gallery duties and events awaits plus tax planning for all of them for year end. I seem to be the only one who knows anything about taxation and one of few who can read financial statements. Plus rewriting the by laws.
Well off for the 200 steps to get another cup of coffee. Diane S
