Supah Sunday!
Bonnie150 -- healing thoughts to you!
A couple of NYT things. One is a nutrition study review from Dr. Ludwig (anti-sugar guru) how to (maybe) earn another 250 cals a day
Also, I just liked this (tis the season) how to be grateful without rolling your eyes
Finally, a couple of pics from a glorious training hike in rare, dry, SUNNY, November day. (Peps, profound sorrow for your fires and resulting air quality, eta sorrow for loss of life, too!!!!!)
One of the pics was snapped because I wanted a pic of the chocolate lab (you will see the owner restraining him). He visited everybody as they arrived up top like it was his job. Charming fellow.

Shel, interesting NYT article re recent metabolic / dieting research. Thank you.
The gist of the findings are that lower-carb diets allow people to eat more calories, on average 250 more/day and, in some cases, 400 cals more/day.
But at the end, there's this:
"Dr. Ludwig ... stressed that the findings do not impugn whole fruits, beans and other unprocessed carbohydrates. Rather, he said, the study suggests that reducing foods with added sugar, flour and other refined carbohydrates could help people maintain weight loss by increasing their metabolisms at a lower body weight.
"These foods seem to undermine your metabolism," he said. "They slow metabolism in a way that may work against long-term weight loss maintenance."
My last 4+ years of tracking the macronutrients I eat has led me to conclude that our individual metabolisms work how they work -- with some patterns, of course. One of those big patterns is that foods replete with added sugar and refined carbs are no friends to the formerly obese who want to maintain their weight losses long-term.
That's certainly true for me, which I observed over a year ago when I began eating fewer sugared/highly processed carbs, e.g., 2 biscotti/day, and moved from 4-5 veggies and fruits/day to 7-8/day.
Doing science on a sample of one (myself) is the best science I can conduct. As always, my findings may differ from others' findings.

+1. So, that's an N of 2. Let's publish.
I loved that he called out the difference between processed/extra sugar carbs vs unprocessed. He knows how the public thinks.
