Your NOLA winter sounds delectable. I've only been there once, but I was struck by the unique depth of the culture. It suddenly made sense to me why people who lived there for generations wanted, needed to stay, hurricanes be damned. My dream right now is for dh to take a leave of absence (in two years maybe) and rent an apartment somewhere new for the summer. (Since I have summers off). It won't be NOLA though, even heat loving me probably wouldn't survive that!
DD, I endorse your summer apartment idea so very strongly. :) I hope y'all can make that happen.

Having a very lazy Saturday! Enjoying every minute so far. Started with a sf chai latte, lounging, reading with geriatric kitty by my side. Going to get dressed in a bit, and do a little shopping. Plan to make dh a nice dinner when he gets home tonight, and continue the lounging. Last weekend we were in Texas, on the run for four days, staying in a full house with in laws, and it was fabulous. Today, just me and kitty, is fabulous too.
Good morning all,
Shirl! You fire fighter, you! You bet your husband is proud of you! And that row of baby trees is destined to be epic someday.
On Halloween, I wasn't hungry and the thought of candy made me nauseous. Usually if I am under the weather, I want to eat for comfort, so this was a Gift From The Cosmos. This vague illness caused me to cancel my next day's work out and still be candy-adverse the next day. I finally had one Twix but that was it.
My local OTF has been buzzing with people's fitness/health plans for the holiday season,. Aspirations vary greatly, and I enjoy listening to people giving voice to their intentions. If I didn't have them and this group, I might think that everyone is resigned to gaining 10 lbs with poor eating and no exercise because "it is dark and rainy."
Peps, that reminds me of your comments about short term vs long term. I may not have understood the question correctly, but here is my stab at an answer anyway. I very much look at stringing together positive behaviors in the short term and I actively imagine "just how great I will feel in 4-6 weeks." I never do specific weight goals tho I am well aware if I generally want to stay about the same or drift one way or the other.
I know for sure that if I look ahead any further than 4-6 weeks, I will begin to think about "starting" later which is quite definitely ostrich behavior. For one thing, I don't want my behavior yo-yo'ing like that with even a whiff of "starting" which of course is assuming that I must be "stopping" first.
I want both structure and flexibility in my behaviors. One of those behaviors is forgiveness, by the way. Now in maintenance, part of that flexibility includes foods not considered healthy so if I have a piece of cake, it is just cake and (apparently) part of that day's plan, sometimes much to my surprise. If my weight trends the wrong way for too long, then I need to adjust my behaviors.
Ann, love LOVE your Nola plans. I assume that someday there will be an Ann biography, and it will include a chapter on the great awakening--- no, blossoming --- of your literary genius during this time. No pressure.
As for Rainier, yes, I'm on the 3rd of 8 week "transition to training" plan. I like its structure and knowing that I am doing what is recognized as best practice. I'm sure I'll sign up for an updated progression plan every 8 weeks until the big date which is 33 weeks away.
Hugs to all of you! Cecily, we all need a little funk sometimes so we recognize the good times. Now, go find some good times :)
Shel
PS, just got a text from an unrecognized number saying "how are you, stranger". Yech. Must block that dark thing.

Greetings Holiday Revelers
Well its the party season. The Halloween two pounds are still sticking on me. Rats! But I am still sticking with the one day at a time thing of increased protein and moving more.
Ann you never cease to amaze me! Winter in NOLA. What a great idea! You are so lucky to have good friends and family everywhere. Enjoy.
Ditto Shel on the Rainier training.
Farewell little Chiquita. You are so loved.
Well our football game is on. Maybe more later. Diane S
Good Morning All - another quick fly by but wow Im making it here on the weekends. DH is still snoozing but my body clock had me up at 5.30am so washing is on and dishes done. Im sitting with a cuppa watching the farm wake up. My kinda bliss.
Productive day yesterday - we got the rest of the brush cutting done and mulched the final 10 trees. The driveway looks lovely now. Had a late lunch 2pm and then headed over to SIL. We loaded 70 of the nearly 400 bales onto the trailer and took them to other SIL. I helped DH unload and stack- some of those suckers are weighty. Whole family ate together last night which was lovely
Today will be another busy morning. We have to go get 3 big concrete pipes that will form the base of our well - tapping into an underground stream should mean we have lots of water. Then over to SIL again to load more hay as we are expecting rain Monday. I can feel arm muscles a little today so not feeling guilty that I do no formal exercise. We have a family BBQ this afternoon - I have a curried rice salad to make. I did my desert last night over there. Will be having a couple of glasses of wine to unwind.
Ann - Will be thinking of you lots - hope the memorial goes as well as it can and Nola sounds amazing.
Liz - Will be thinking of you today as Chiquita crosses the rainbow bridge. Hugs from Australia x
Cec - Sending another parcel of Aussie sunshine and lots of thoughts. Hope you feel better soon
And to everyone else - sending you smiles
Well I better get my butt into gear. Got to go fuel the ute and help DH take a crate off the stock trailer so we can fit in the concrete pipes.
Have a nice night all
Shirley
