Time flies! It is time to change the clocks this weekend and it is turkey month. Calories 1231 - not as good on my planned eating as I should have been. Back in the saddle today.
Three days to Florida. Still stuff to do, but the box packing is done. I need to shop for a few food items today, ship the boxes, find someone to clean the gutters (yes, those are plants growing up there), and see if DH's PCP will see him to test for a urinary infection. The psychiatrist recommended that because of his drastic downturn over the last few months.
Tomorrow is hair day and DD arrives for the weekend. Maybe I'll get a little house cleaning in today or tomorrow? I hate leaving it overdue for a good dusting and vacuuming. It is one task I wish DH could help with but he is so forgetful and disorganized that I have to redo what he does (and give instructions along the way). Not worth it. Since I've been lighter I don't mind cleaning as much because I see it as exercise and my joints don't all hurt. But it is the time that is the issue.
Have a great day!

Time certainly is flying! I already programmed my Sirius radio to Christmas stations. And last night, as we were watching Hocus Pocus, the ads were all Christmassy (ie "Grinch" pancakes at Ihop).
Do you guys reserve Christmas until after Thanksgiving? I don't mind some Christmas music beforehand--I feel like I need a little jolly in my life! And we're paying someone to hang lights--as early as next week--but we don't dare turn them on until Thanksgiving eve! In the past we've always held off on Christmas trees (we have 2****il after Thanksgiving. But Christmas is so busy! And decorating is so much work! I can't even imagine how much more time-consuming decorating will be with a little one (and especially if DH is continuing to work out of state every other week!). So as much as I love waiting on the trees, we may do the big one early. it's in the foyer, anyway. But I love Thanksgiving/fall, too, so I hate to rush out that season too fast. Plus, Thanksgiving is really early this year as it is!
Weight was up today. 168.4. Might be falsely inflated. But I ate TERRIBLY yesterday. I mean, hang my head bad. I took donuts to work for Halloween and that was the kiss of death. I always eat protein for breakfast. So, 2 1/2 donuts later and not filled one bit. Then I tried to be good and eat chili for lunch and it was disgusting. let's just say I'll be brushing my teeth extra after all the sugar I consumed yesterday. And felt like crap. Headachey. Duh.
Today I've planned better, with one of those egg cups for breakfast, packed my lunch with sandwich, veggies, and fruit, and Red curry beef in crockpot for dinner. And I don't even want to think about candy. DiamondD, I feel you. No self-control. The only slightly good news is we give away full size bars, which I actually think are better for me, mentally. Like a whole bar...that's an investment. No casual way about it. We'll put extras in movie room and hopefully outta sight, outta mind.
I liked the discussion on routine foods. I know that this is what I need, but I fight it. I guess that's always been my problem: fight between loving food and wanting to be thin. Can the two ever coexist? Can the two ever coexist for me ? I love menu planning and looking at recipes and cooking and...yes...ultimately eating that. But no doubt this is somewhat counterproductive to my weightloss efforts. I do think there is something to be said for liking to cook, etc.--certainly some people end up obese and hate cooking! I think perhaps my best option is an intermediate one: keep breakfasts and lunches pretty mundane, and maybe be a bit more adventurous when it comes to dinner. In maintenance. Maybe not weightloss.
My Dad does just what you suggest, he eats the same breakfast and same lunch most days, and then eats more variety at dinner. He looks like a natural "thin person", but maintaining a healthy weight is a fight against his genetics. Up until this year (after turning 80 and having a hip replacement) he walked 5 miles everyday, during his lunch break when he was working in his clinic, and in the morning once he retired. Now he had to cut his walk to 3 miles, a concession to his new hip. I think these routines, same food, exercise every day, are the keys to his success.
Ah, Halloween has come and gone. I did pretty well through the candy and food fest, but not as well as I had planned. I was afraid that I might have awakened the beast, but I seem to be okay today - no cravings, but I would not have minded a larger than normal protein forward breakfast. Weight was up, but still in the 252s.
My legs are SORE! Okay, let me be more specific: my hamstrings are super duper almost hurts to sit on the toilet sore and upper glutes are tender and my lower glutes are simply angry! I think I need to do some squats or something to break up the lactic acid in my muscles. That will probably help me get over the soreness more quickly.
One of the teachers at school gifted me with a week of Hello Fresh. I ordered three meals. I have never done a service like Hello Fresh before. I have many friends who use such services, but I have never made the leap. For someone who knows how to cook well it always seemed like a cheater method of cooking! LOL! Besides, I can have someone else prepare and cook my meals at a place like Jack's Urban Eats for about the same price and there is no work or clean up involved - just pick it up and pay!
Ann looks to have had a good time with NOLA Halloween. I saw at least two different costumes she wore for different festivities. I've heard those in NOLA know how to do up Halloween like no others. Hmmmm....bucket list item????
Ron stopped by school after a urology appointment. His catheter has been removed and now he will go back at 3:45 for an ultra sound of bladder and kidneys and prostate to see how he's faring and also to gauge how well he is able to eliminate without the catheter in place. FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!
SHORT TERM GOALS VS LONG TERM GOALS.... Do any of you do this type of mindset for your weight loss weight maintenance efforts? As I wrote a few days ago, I have a goal of being in a "right sized body" within the next 12 months. My trainer pointed out that people like we (remember she is a formerly SMO person) can easily put off and rationalize behavior for long term goals because of the distance in the future of the "due date". This makes sense to me because I have often done exactly that, but I haven't chosen to look at the lack of reaching weight goals quite that honestly - especially while stuck in the active part of the disease. So, I realize that it is somewhat hard for me to NOT attach a number to a weight goal, even though what I should be focusing on is the behavior goal that will lead to the number goal. Does that make sense??? I am curious why for me that focusing on the behavior is harder than focusing on the number. It must have something to do with the Ostrich Syndrome that Shel so cleverly describes. Perhaps focusing on the number allows me to NOT CHANGE the behavior that leads to obesity???? Thoughts?
Happy All Souls Day, Day after Halloween, and to those of us who did indeed indulge, happy sugar hangover day!
XO!
Greetings Buddies
Well the aftermath of Halloween is a gain of 2 pounds and an enormous kitchen mess. We had a good time and 382 kids come by. DH keeps track with a clicker. The neighbors set up some kind of a fire pit and were toasting marshmallows for kits. It was kind of a show. All manner of super hero, princesses, ghouls and unidentifiable creatures arrived. We wore our witch hats . My friend mined all the candy bags for every single Almond Joy bar. He can have them. I got the Reeces. Time to reset and refocus.
Thinking of the long term goal of getting rid of this regain make me think I really should just have a series of daily goal such as skipping sweets (not to hard) only one glass of wine (slightly more difficult) and getting in more protein (also slightly more difficult). The candy is all going over to the senior center or the studio. I have a couple of containers of creamy soup that didn't get eaten that I think I am just going to dump. Wasting food is not a crime. I would give it away if I could. Just gave away the unused 6 pack of beer to the neighbor who has two grown sons.
Enjoy your holiday decorating BB. Its fun to do that when there are kids around. You could put up a big tree with autumn decorations and then add Christmas ones. My friends put up as many as seven trees and each has a theme - one all dog ornaments, one all international ones and I forget what else.
Peps, I will be interested in what you think of those pre made meal kits. For some people getting to the market and shopping is an ordeal but in our small town its no biggie.
I had a grooming appointment for Chip this afternoon but they called and asked if he could come early. Since pet groomers don't get border terriers very often, I took a picture of him in when he won a sweepstakes class. I was in the picture weighing in at nearly 250 lbs. Wow. I think I am going to send it to my surgeon.
DH is off to lunch with his buddies at a THAI place which means he will bring home spring rolls. Then he is going to show up in person to the radiology place to make an appointment for a scan. They are really slow about calling for appointments ordered by other doctors yet they are efficient once you get there.
Well time to attack all the kitchen mess. That is, after this cup of coffee. Diane S
TGIF !!! Yay - looking forward to the weekend. Was a hot day yesterday. I worked then popped into town - picked up some things at the Thrift shop - will wash them shortly. Went to the local produce market - was small but picked up some goat salami and also some chicken, leek and bacon salami - DH will be happy when he gets back up tonight
We had rain overnight. My SIL was due to have her hay baled but Im not sure that will happen now as it will likely be too wet.
Not a lot planned for today apart from work and a bit of cleaning up etc.
Glad you all had a fun Halloween :)

And I'm hooooome!
I drove home today from New Orleans, America's weirdest, wackiest city. :) And that's the winner of all of America's OTHER weird, wacky cities, including (to name just a few) Las Vegas, Austin, Portland (Oregon), and Washington, DC. ;)
I got home just in time for fall's peak color this latitude.
Tomorrow, I'll have more to report and comment on. With Halloween, we're definitely heading into holiday season with all its joys and temptations for us weight-maintainers.
xoxoxo
