I have a stack of stuff... (or, Thursday, October 18th)- if no one posts ahead of me

135.8

All this stuff sitting upon my desk to be addressed- pushed aside to go back and read thru posts (responding to some directly in said posts- can't keep the information organized well enough to be coherent in reply here****pt humming Mr. Roger's "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.." as I read. Y'all like my neighbors, all collected together on the same street that I get to drop by and have coffee and a chat with...and what a diverse and interesting neighborhood we have. I like living here.

Yesterday I was notified that my surgery has been moved back to November 13th. On the one hand, that undoes some paperwork that has to be resubmitted and shifted, but on the other hand, it changes the day to a Tuesday instead of a Friday and places me first procedure of the day, which seems better and fresher, you know-surgeons more wide-eyed and bushy tailed. More significantly, I have taken this experience out of the projected, but imaginary musings (IF- OR- Maybe- or perhaps I won't need to, etc) and placed it--Named it--as a reality in my life. It now IS.

The days fly by and I have found myself immersed in this ginormous clay project that has morphed into Frankenstein's monster. I like it. Diane, what do you speculate would happen to marbles (they're glass, right?) embedded into the clay and fired? I know that ---shoot---I know nothing....I'm thinking ....

7:00 and time to mosey off to school. TaTa for now.

Weight 119.8, calories 1590.

I was reading about Whipple procedures. It sounds like a really complex operation, so first thing in the morning would probably be the best. It must be hard to have to anticipate it.

DSD just got a job in Jacksonville Florida and is planning to live in Jacksonville Beach! Funny how the former NYC girl will now be living in a state she used to say she would never go to. Time can certainly change perspective. We will be able to drive there from our Florida place which is great. One of eldest DD's friends also lives in Jacksonville. Her daughter was my DD's godchild, so it will make it easier to see them as well.

Today is packing day! I just checked in for our flight. Early morning for DH tomorrow (we need to leave here at 5:15 am).

Have a thoroughly productive Thursday!

Thanks everyone for weighing in on WW. I mostly agree with all of you. While I do believe ultimately it comes down to calories, I also think that for most of us (and definitely me) certain calories trigger more calories. Rarely does an egg or some green beans trigger that response. Whereas a mini muffin might. So to that extent, I think what they are trying to do is hedge their bets that if you fill up on whole foods, you'll eat more "responsibly." And perhaps that's the only way they can guide your hand to eat better--by incentivizing it as a "steal" of a food at ZERO points!! The only downside I see is not training people about proper portion size. I saw this in real life when my BIL would eat enormous portions of chicken, beans, veggies. I simply worry that their skewed version of portion size will bleed over if they eat off-plan, or even decide they are done with WW once they've reached their goal. This is always the fear. How do you keep it going in maintenance? This is something we all know too well.

DH leaves today. Won't be bac****il late next Friday. Sad. Trying to see it as an opportunity. The dogs are doing much better now that they've had prescription antibiotics to help with the flea problem. Outside was sprayed yesterday and inside today. They're acting much more normal. Hallelujah!

As far as my eating, it's been not the greatest. Been trying to have fruit and granola bars. I guess at least it's all still small portions....just veeerrrry frequently!

Still rain and very windy... a bit of snow on decks this morning. I'm waiting for a window of opportunity to finish mowing the front and the whole back. I'm going to go light on the gas, as this MAY be the last mow of the season, and I don't want to have to drain the tank to store it. I have decided that pumpkin carving is an art. I ordered a kit of tools and stencils to increase the likelihood of people recognizing what I was going for.

Ann, new tires and getting enough F & V and sleep are good things ! Liz, enjoy your trip ! A cruise might be perfect for DH, as you won't have to worry about him getting lost ! Shel.. mountaineering training ! Could you even have dreamt of such a thing ten years ago ! I'll be happy to be able to ride my bike again ! Shirl Aus.. hope you are feeling lots better ! How great that you are able to advocate for an autistic individual in a high stress situation for him ! Peps, hope your eye is better ! Love hearing you talk macros !! David, keep following Doctor's orders and continue your recovery to less pain. Diamond.. so sorry that your fears about your Mom were confirmed. Positive thoughts your way. Greetings Magnificent Ones

152 today. Must be my heavy socks. Or the 3 mini peanut butter cups I ate at the studio. Other people eat them who are not fat. So not fair. Oh well, first world problems.

My art show in November is rapidly approaching and I am so not ready. But for some reason I am just not that excited about it. I need to do one more large piece and it probably won't happen. At least I did get some stuff glazed and into the desired kiln yesterday so I know thats done.

Bonnie 150, ask your instuctor about the marbles but its unlikely to work and may be a disaster. Glass melts at a temperature likely less than what you fire too. Also clay shrinks when fired. If you want marble eyes, make holes in the clay for them (bigger to account for shrinkage) and then glue them in when done. We sometimes melt bits of art glass in the bottom of plates and bowls where it can't run anywhere but not imbedded. Ask your instructor. Its fun to add beads, wire and other goodies after firing. Can't wait to see your new project.

BB, sorry your DH is gone so much. Hope you are feeling well and that Becca is better. That 7 month picture on FB is so adorable.

Tee Hee Shel, skeleton on the roof. The witches next door talk and move and when in our master bathroom you can hear them talking! Their eyes light up at night!!

I am going to need a Halloween strategy for all the candy. Since we get 400 kids we need loads and I can't wait until the last minute to get it. I usually buy stuff I hate but others will bring chocolate. Guess I will try to fill up on protein and keep the candy low.

DH goes to lunch today so the coast will be clear for me to remove some of his junk from the living room. My Halloween part strategy may be just to turn out the lights and have candles and hope no one sees all the junk laying around.

Well off to meet the day which is a foggy one. But its good - it feeds the redwoods. Diane S

Late in the day, but I'll chime in a little and make a "real post" tomorrow.

Today I went to The Big City for a hiatal hernia repair consultation with a surgeon. I'll report on all that tomorrow. tldr: It's not bad, but I need more information for deciding about surgery, so we're going to schedule an endoscopy.

And here's why I am posting now: I just read an article ("How to Get 1% Better Every Day") posted by a zenhabits enthusiast about the looooong-term benefits of changing our daily habits. It's very interesting and, although quite long on metaphors, still worth checking out: https://heleo.com/get-1-better-every-day/19161/?fbclid=IwAR0 OlXzI8R2MJrJ8-7W-ivfyH2E2oISWkwgNo-PmNtsRvvzDkhsy2egtgFk

I was really glad I had mine repaired again, Ann. It was so much easier recovery-wise than the VSG and more importantly, did the trick. Good luck with your decision!

Cecily, thank you for that info. I didn't remember you'd had it repaired. I'm very happy about your outcome and encouraged by it.

Late in the day....

Weight is fine. Down a little more.

Ron had a stroke today. He is currently in the hospital for observation. Blood work came back showing other abnormalities - kidney function significantly off. He's had an ultra sound which showed his kidneys are super enlarged and his prostate is enlarged. He has had a catheter inserted and the urine flow is AMAZING! It hasn't stopped for 20 minutes. He has passed over 4 liters. CAT scan, EKG came back okay, but neurologist ordered a brain MRI. She believes this was more than a TIA. Will check in when I can.

I have yet to eat over this. Yay me.
