Shel, congrats about the recent return of your can-do perspective.
And it's interesting about your Rainier trainer's views on the necessary training. I can better appreciate (duh!) that mountaineering (I refuse to whisper, because you are now a mountaineer!) requires more than just the ability to walk up- and downhill ... that core and upper body strength is required for the climb and descent, as well as arresting, setting equipment, and responding to "events" that might happen along the way (like climbing out of a crevasse). This is much more complicated and considerably different than trekking at high altitude and requires very specific skilz!
And then I found this site: https://www.summitpost.org/so-you-want-to-climb-mt-rainier/5 07227
Even more respect!

Thanks for that link.....somehow I missed that particular website in my quest to read everything possible. I liked the comment about being able to self arrest (with ax) at any moment without thinking about it. Should I buy my ax now, carry it around and randomly fall and self-arrest?
As a side note, one of my more favorite websites for Rainier (and more) is https://missadventurepants.com. She's just good fun plus she isn't afraid to put her mistakes out there. More than any other voice, her Rainier experience made me realize I couldn't hire just any trainer and expect to do well. If a former college endurance athlete could get steered wrong, what hope was there for me?
Besides being funny, she is prone to weight gain, has a dysfunctional food streak and is intimidated by size 0 mountaineering women.

Greetings My Lovelies
No weight today. Forgot and drank coffee first. Poor excuse but that's my habit.
Yep fall is in full swing everywhere. Color, rain, chill, pumpkins. My favorite time of year. It was surprisingly warm here yesterday. We played scrabble outside and it was downright hot for me.
Shel the mountaineering training sounds daunting. But good for you for going for it. You only go around once ...isn't that from a beer commercial?
Hmmm BB, I am about the only person who has never done Weigh****chers though I certainly did my share of diets. No clue about whether the point system is a good thing but you are right that its about calories. The points just simplify the math. I can't imagine eating four hard boiled eggs and your breakfast sounds much better. In the long run its about reasonable portions plus avoiding highly concentrated calorie foods like cookies. I see no downside to trying the points system if it makes sense to you.
Scrabble was fun but boy are these people killer good. Fortunately they are laid back and use the dictionary liberally.
So our neighbor lady has gotten so into Halloween decorating. Huge inflated dragon, two life sized witch figures that move and talk, skulls lining the walk, all sorts of hanging spooks, spider and on and on. This yard is probably only 25x25 feet square. Our street gets a zillion kids and I think her house will be ground zero.
Dave, Devon, Shirly, Bonnie 150, Becca and anyone else ailing, please get well and stay well. Health is indeed everything or most everything. It should be number one priority for all of us (note to self: do that).
I finally had so many things stack up to do that I was forced to make a list. Things like doing the sales tax returns for both galleries, bank deposits for both, reviewing the studio lease, calling a new gallery member on a publicity project, checking on studio work comp insurance and on and on. I got about half of it done. The rest today.
Dinner last night was a little more of the high quality rib eye steak from the health food store. I probably ate only three ounces but it sure was good. Well worth the extra $$ since one steak is about 6 dinners.
Not much wisdom here. Enjoy the sunshine. Diane S
I thought my husband bought a 66 ft dragon skeleton but it turned out to be 6.6 ft. It was a box of bones that he had to assemble! How fun is that? It is already perched on our roof.

Good Morning All - well I made it - struggled out of bed after spending the night literally barking like a dog. My poor DH didnt get much sleep. I think I will do a few hours work then curl up in bed and rest. This is a nasty one. Raining outside - welcome but leaves you feeling more tempted to hop back under the covers esp when feeling wretched.
I have cancelled going out today with the exception of a trip to the pharmacy to try and get something that will help me stop coughing and more painkillers. I have to call a friends Autistic son and go through some things with him for his body corporate meeting I am advocating on his behalf this monday. He had a complete meltdown last time and we have agreed its better all round if I just go and deal with it all. One of the other owners in the complex is exceptionally rude and pushy - their financial situation differs greatly from some of the others but she is determined to keep trying to push 1000's and 1000's of $ worth of improvements through. Its easy for her - as both she and DH work and this is a tax deduction but when you have a highly anxious autistic adult on a pension - this induces all sorts of issues and drama. We lost his mum and dad in 2010 and 2012 so I have stepped up as much as I can to assist him. Hoping I have shaken this bug by Monday so I can contend with her! Wish me luck or provide me with good battle armour ha ha ha
I have read all your posts and thinking of you all - will be better at responding once I shake this bug. Had MRI and Xray on knee yesterday. I had to have one lot re-done as I started coughing. See my Doctor next Wed for the results.
Well I best go and get some work done - have a wonderful evening all
S
Feel well soon, sweetie. And best luck advocating for your Autistic friend. The disconnect communication wise must be terribly frustrating for those who are saddled with that disorder. We outliers look at it as though it's their problem because "they" cannot communicate appropriately --when, in reality, we as yet haven't done very well ourselves in relation to them. It is understood that an interpreter is needed when two people speak different languages. Seems to me this is also the case. Thank you for standing in the gap.
I hope you feel better soon. How wonderful that you help your friends autistic son. Life must be hard for him.
